This cutie girl is one year old Josie. She was rescued along with her brother Oliver from the streets of Northern New Jersey. They were originally going to be TNR'd and put back outside but their trapper realized they had potential. We then decided to take them and help socialize them so they could be adopted. Josie is sweet but still is shy and takes time to warm up. She has learned that she likes head and neck scratches, she just won't give you any major response yet, but she is getting there. Josie would do great in a home with a super friendly, playful and non-dominant cat or kitten. We prefer her and her brother do not get adopted together as she needs to blossom without him. Since she was shy in the beginning and still is, we think a home without young kids or a lot of commotion will work best for her.

Sabrina is an eight month old kitten that was rescued from the streets of Elizabeth when she wandered into a colony of feral cats. She went right into a foster home and is slowly coming around. She is scared of most things but does love head, neck and butt scratches. She is currently with another super friendly cat and she finds comfort in her presence. Sabrina will definitely need time to acclimate in a new home in a smaller room. She must be adopted into a home with another super friendly cat or kitten so she can continue her advancement. Sabrina has a lot of potential!!!! Since she is shy, an adult only home is preferred. She does play with toys when you are not looking. This special little girl is Palmer, she was born in our care after we rescued her pregnant mom Prudence from the streets of Newark. She was one of three kittens. Her sister Phillipa is also available. Unfortunately their brother didn't make it. Palmer was born on 4/23/24 and has a special condition called CH, which affects her fine motor skills. As you can see from her video, she walks a little wobbly and bow-legged, but she gets around just fine. Other than that she is completely healthy, spayed, vaccinated, FeLV/FIV negative and is microchipped. Palmer is super affectionate and loves to play with other cats. A home with a decent amount of carpet will be helpful to her ability to get around easier. She is super soft and cuddly.

A puppy his size has to be trained in order to acclimate into a home environment. Carter really is an amazing diamond in the rough who would make an amazing family dog. We are so excited to announce that Wendy has found her forever home!!! We rescued Wendy several months ago and quickly learned she didn't have an easy life. We were desperate for somewhere for her to decompress and start living her new life. Well that place happened to be Summit Dog and Cat Hospital. They were so kind to open a spot for her. As you can see from the pics, it didn't take long for her to weasel her way into the lunch room where she would share lunch and participate in parties like she was an employee. Wendy was very particular about the people she liked, mostly women and just a few men who work at the hospital. Wendy became the favorite dog in the office and everyone grew very attached. We finally received an application for Wendy that fit all her criteria. They came to meet her and it was love at first sight. Wendy loved them immediately and the rest is history. Now she is living the dream in Pennsylvania and gets all the attention. We are eternally grateful to the entire staff at Summit for all they did for our Wendy!!! Thank you so much to her adoptive family for rescuing a dog in need!!!!

This stunning girl is one year old Stella. She was surrendered to a local kill shelter by the family that bred her parents after they could no longer care for all the puppies. She is literally the best dog. Stella is sweet, funny, charismatic and energetic. She loves every human and dog she meets. Stella is currently enrolled in doggie daycare and is doing absolutely amazing!!!! She loves to play and would do great in a home with another young, playful and energetic dog. Stella is crate-trained and completely housebroken. She definitely needs a home with a very active family who has the time to enroll her in puppy training classes. She is currently in a foster home with Peper who also came from the same situation and is up for adoption. Lotus is full of life and is such a sweet kitten. She loves to play, hang out with Peper, play with the resident dog Ginny's tail when they are hanging out. She loves to be with people at all times and will cuddle up and take a nap almost anywhere. Lotus definitely needs to go into a home with another super friendly cat or kitten as she needs other feline companionship. Lotus also likes to watch the birds and squirrels out the window. This big, fluffy, stunning boy is Champlain. He is about two years old and was rescued after being left in an abandoned apartment with four other male cats. Champlain has taken a bit of time to adjust to his surroundings. He was very upset after being moved, but is showing a lot of progress. He is currently in foster with a few other cats and does great with them. He loves to use scratching posts or cat trees and will play with any catnip toy he can find. Champlain can still get over stimulated so a home without children is required. He also needs to go to a cat savvy home. He is not for a first time cat owner. Presley is a 4 month old little black and white kitten rescued as an orphan in a bad section of Newark by one of our rescue partners. She was only about eight weeks old, super dirty and flea infested. No other kittens were found so we moved her to a foster home where she could learn from other cats and kittens. Presley is super friendly, playful and loves to chase the other kittens. As you can see from the pictures, Presley has the I sits, I fits mentality. She will squeeze her little body into any space she can. She has a personality all her own and will make the perfect addition to any home. Gris loves other cats and has become quite close to Dodo another female cat rescued from the same situation. Gris would do great in a home with one or two other cats. Eli is a very special little boy. He is an 8-month old, 8lb Yorkie/Shih Tzu mixed who was rescued from a family who could no longer take care of him. Eli has very limited use of his back legs. It's a little unclear how it happened but the specialist believes that it is genetic and not trauma. We have determined that surgery will not fix his mobility issues. A possible MRI will determine if hydro therapy might be an option. Our smart and spunky boy will most likely end up with a set of wheels to help him get around. His disability doesn't stop him from being a dog. He currently lives with multiple dogs and plays with them all, he has no fear. He definitely needs to be adopted into a home with another dog to keep him company. Eli is scheduled to be neutered in the next couple of weeks and then he can be officially adopted. Eli will make a very loving companion to the right compassionate family.

He was locked in a cage with no food or water and most likely used as a bait dog based on his size. Bruce is an amazing little man. He is a testament to the resilience of these dogs. They go through pain and suffering but just have lots of love to give. Bruce is a volunteer favorite. They literally fight over who gets to walk him!!! We have slowly been re-introducing him to other dogs and he is doing fantastic. He loves walks, yard time, and taking over your lap as his own. He loves toys, treats and anything that involves belly rubs. Bruce would do great in a home with another low-key chill older dog. He deserves to have an amazing home!!! Is that with you?!?!

Prudence is a two year old muted tortie who was rescued off the streets of Newark by one of our rescue partners. She turned out to be heavily pregnant so we moved her to a foster home that specializes in pregnant moms and bottle babies. Prudence had three little babies, only two survived but they will be up for adoption soon. Prudence is a typical tortie. One minute she wants affection and the next minute she wants to be left alone. She also isn't a real fan of other cats so she will need to be the queen of her castle. Trust us, she is all the personality you will need in a cat. Prudence can be super loving and loves her head and neck scratched. She also enjoys lounging in whatever spot you are trying to sit in.

She is a one year old Staffie mix who was rescued from an abandoned apartment in North Jersey. She was living in her filth and was starting to become emaciated. We rescued her just in time. ROOF TOP ROSIE UPDATE‼️‼️‼️❤️🐾🐶 This beautiful girl was out with a bunch of our volunteers today as we worked to evaluate her needs. As you can image she is a little shell shocked at this point. Being moved around isn't easy even for the most well adapted dogs. Rosie took the day in stride and had a wonderful time on the ground and in the fresh air. As you can see she gave a lot of smiles and loves the pets!!! One of the most important thing a rescue can do is learn all they can about a dog and their behavior so they get placed in the right adoptive home. ANOTHER CRAZY WEEK IN THE WORLD OF CAT RESCUE‼️‼️‼️❤️🐾🐱 The big old grey man was found in Newark by our rescue partner Yasmin Rivera along with the three kittens thrown in a big garbage bin with their food. The two grey and white kittens were trapped in a yard in Union. We are working on getting the last kitten and will TNR the mom cat. The orange and white boy was rescued from a colony while Barbra Grecco was out feeding her colonies. It is just never ending and lately all we feel like we are doing is spinning our wheels. It's one step forward and three steps back but at least we have saved the lives of these eight cats and kittens. All have already started to receive medical care!!!! TODAYS EMERGENCY RESCUE‼️‼️‼️🐶🐾❤️ Two extremely matted, sick and emaciated girls were found by a fire department in Newark and needed emergency rescue!!!! We stepped in immediately and got them to a local vet who was able to assess both of them, start them on fluids and get them both groomed. The white one weighs onky 5lbs and was so sick she couldn't even stand. She had to be groomed laying on her side. These poor babies have obviously been starved and neglected for a very long time. Sadly this is what we deal with every day. People choose to spend thousands of dollars to buy dogs but then don't want to spend the money on their upkeep. Well these two girls will never know pain and suffering again. MAGGIE UPDATE #4❤️🐾🐶 Maggie continues to thrive and is seeking an immediate foster or forever home as the only pet with no children!!!! Maggie got to spend time this weekend in a home for a sleepover to get some much needed rest. None of this would have been possible without a life-saving partnership between Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge, Best Friend Dog and Animal Adoption and YOU – our wonderful rescue community! Maggie is feeling SO much better these days, but we can’t forget where she came from, AND we can’t forget to help Maggie find a home! Maggie is currently seeking a foster/foster to adopt home. Just days after rescue, Maggie is feeling like a new girl. She is gaining weight, cared for, safe and loved for the first time in a long time – maybe ever. Maggie was found abandoned in a park, a “throw-away” mama dog, used for breeding. At just 29 pounds and covered in fleas and pressure sores, it appeared Maggie had been caged and severely neglected to the point of starvation. RBARI joined with Best Friend to rescue Maggie and provide her with immediate medical care. Maggie is enjoying a slow refeeding schedule of small, frequent meals to reintroduce her body to nourishment safely. Maggie SO grateful to YOU, her incredible rescue angels!
