Joseph Claude Berthelot passed away at Athens Regional on Tuesday, November 23 at the age of 56.
Born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, Claude was the only child to Marie Ida Berthelot. At the age of 7, Claude and his mother packed their things and moved to Miami, Florida. Not knowing it yet, Claude met the love of his life and future wife at the age of 16. Claude was 19 when he decided to join the United States Marine Corps. In 1994, He married Janet Goldberg, his high school sweetheart. 2 years later in 1996, he welcomed his first child, Matthieu Berthelot. Not too far down the road, 3 years later in 1999, Claude welcomed a daughter named Danielle Berthelot. After serving a proud 22 years in the military, He decided to retire in 2006 at the age of 41. Now retired, Claude took on being self employed by running a mom-and-pop pet store. He ran the business for 15 years until his sudden passing.
In the passing of Claude Berthelot, he left behind his elderly mother Ida Berthelot, a loving wife, Janet Berthelot, a son and daughter, Matthieu and Danielle Berthelot, and a grandson, Brayden Fricks.
Claude was a wonderful son, husband, father and grandfather. He will truly be missed by his family, friends, customers and even brothers who served in the military alongside him. Even through owning a business and not being a people person, many people loved him and are very sorry to hear of his sudden passing. His memory will forever live in our hearts and though he is gone, he will never be forgotten.
