Central Campus Marine Biology

Central Campus Marine Biology High School students study marine animals and ecosystems in a new facility modeled after a public aquarium and college laboratory.
(5)

Over 200 students a year experience Marine Biology and Aquairum Science in our new facility modeled after a public aquarium. They will learn to replicate environmental conditions similar to those on a coral reef by studying the effects of lighting, water quality, and nutrition on the saltwater organisms in their care. Hands-on activities in the classroom include breeding saltwater fish ie: clownfi

sh, propagating live corals and anemones on the coral farm, breeding jellyfish, and live food culture. This course prepares student for careers in marine biology, environmental science, commercial aquaculture (fish hatcheries), public aquariums, aquarium maintenance, pet industries and most environmental fields. Students are eligible to participate in an optional marine field ecology trip in the spring semester for DMACC credit.

New Class to Boone High - Marine Biology

This last year our program was able to donate two large tanks that where extra to the Marine Biology program at Boone High School. This donation in part with the help from the local reef club made it possible for their program to begin. It is important for us to invest in the future of our hobby and what a great way to do so. Our program started with one 29 gallon tank many years ago and now we have over 16,000 gallons. This donation their program will benefit high school students for years to come!
