If you have concerns about keeping your four-legged family members safe during the eclipse, here's some helpful information from the American Veterinary Medical Association:

"Despite many claims that animals will need special eclipse glasses or should be kept indoors during the eclipse, retinal damage during the eclipse is a risk primarily to animals (and people) who will be looking directly at the sun. Animals do not generally stare at the sun, and there’s no reason to suspect that they will during the coming solar eclipse. If you will be looking at the eclipse, by all means, use protective eye wear to avoid retinal damage, but your pets will likely ignore the phenomenon other than possibly reacting the same way they would at dusk. Owners who are concerned about their pets' behavior are encouraged to monitor them while outdoors during the eclipse."

Although I chuckled when I first saw this, I then thought about how grief hits us, and how we all handle grief differently. Sometimes you feel chest deep in it. Other days, maybe only ankle deep. My prayer for you is that eventually, the mud will dry, and you will realize that after the storm, the sun will shine again, and that the mud has served a purpose. Pet Cremation Iowa had the honor to be entrusted with the care of fallen Boone County K9 officer "Bear". He received a police es**rt and was cremated in a dignified manner. K9 officer Bear will not be forgotten.

Thank you to all of those involved during the difficult time; Leanna Ellis, Story County Sheriff's Officefor arranging the police es**rt. Deputy Schroeder for es**rting from ISU Lab to Jasper Co Line, Jasper County Sheriff's Office, Iowa John Halferty for helping get Deputy Tracy Cross to es**rt from Jasper County Line to Pet Cremation Iowa Crematory. In addition, thank you to Chief Deputy Shawn Ellingson for allowing the Washington County Car to be used with lights flashing. Thank you to Keltek Inc, Rocky Barber, Koby Barber, Jesse and Rod and Deputy Tracy Cross for helping transport Bear into the crematory, including a final salute to Bear. Last but not least, Boone Veterinary Hospital and Boone County Sheriff's Office for entrusting us with Bears care. All services were donated at no cost. ❤️ (video images are in comments)
