Lisianthus, while I question if the extensive time from seed to bloom is worth it every year, the blooms always remind me that YES, they are worth it.
Have you grown them? What are your favorite colors/varieties?

While I love pretty much anything in bloom, dahlias will always hold a special place in my heart.
How many do you recognize?

I am amazed at how many different types of insects have been visiting this year.
Can anyone recommend a good source for learning more about our local insects in the PNW? Also, do you have a preferred app for identifying them? I've seen so many new types and want to learn more about them all.

The color of these rudbeckias are amazing!
A prolific care free bloomer that not only is great for cut flowers, it's also a great landscape plant. From the cheery yellows to the caramel and cherry tones, there is so much to love about these flowers.

I've been a little quiet around here as I've been busy with birthdays, friends in town, and a project at work. The summer blooms and bouquets for our CSA subscribers have been beautiful, but my phone hiatus has resulted in no photos to share. I did, however, catch multiple buzzies on the echinacea this morning.
While double blooms are favored by many gardeners, open facing flowers are preferred by insects for their easy access to nectar. Clearly, these little guys adore them.

Anyone that has ever grown of experienced this bloom gets it.
This is a night blooming ceres cactus. I received my duration cutting nearly 25 yrs ago from a neighbor. I'll never forget the knock on the door at 9pm inviting us over to watch it slowly open. It was a magical experience and the fragrance unforgettable.
I killed my cutting I brought from LA many years ago and, luckily, was able to get a new one off my friend that had a cutting from my first one. I kept mine in the house for years while it established ND finally moved it into the greenhouse a year ago. I've never had it bloom so early in the season and this was my first time ever to have two blooms at once.
The blooms curve upward a few days before opening. The bloom starts puffing up and gets soft the night it is going to open. Then, at dusk it will slowly start to reveal it's magic. At sunrise it quickly fades like a deflated balloon.
Gardening is an experience, one that reminds us to slow down and take in nature's beauty. Thankyou to wonderful gardening friends sharing in this experience.

Saxifraga stolonifera is what fairy gardens are made of.
This is a great ground cover that will brighten up a shady corner. Its flush of adorable tiny white flowers provide a carpet of white for weeks on end after the last of the primula have had their time in the spotlight. I can attest that it holds up great in wetter conditions. It's said to do well in clay soil, too.
The chocolate cosmos I grew from seed last year. I lost most to aphids, so I was delighted to see the one I planted made it.
