Those are some gorgeous weeds!!!!
We plant wildflowers on the farm for many great reasons. Our flower beds improve soil health, bring in pollinators, increase diversity, help with water quality, and create beautiful landscapes!
How many species can you identify?

it's tomato planting time! Depending on how much of a risk taker you are, folks generally prefer to plant tomatoes anytime between mid-March and mid-April in north Texas right before or after the last frost date.
We planted our tomatoes March 18th-20th!
We prepare 100-foot beds and add compost before laying weed fabric. The furrows or trenches between each bed are mulched heavily to suppress weeds, hold water, and slowly release nutrients over a long period.
We burn 6-inch holes in the weed fabric every 2 feet before digging out holes for each tomato plant.
A handful of slow-release organic fertilizer is added to the hole before planting and filling.

We've gotten some great recipe ideas from our customers lately on what to do with our produce. Here is a "How-to" for southern greens using Opal's mustards and turnips.
The pork comes from a local farm and friend First Earth Farm.
Recipe inspiration comes from "I Heart Recipes" at the link here. https://iheartrecipes.com/southern-mixed-greens-turnips/

Ever wondered how we prep our biointensive beds at the farm? Here is a simple step-by-step guide through the process.
We do not use heavy machinery in our biointensive fields. This helps limit soil compaction and heavy tillage. We do this to build soil health and structure so that our produce is healthy and nutrient-dense.
This is an excellent way for new farmers/gardeners with limited acreage to start growing food for themselves and their communities.
