Thank you New York Rural Water for hosting Nose On The Ground K9 Leak Detection at the NYRWA’s 45th Annual Technical Training Workshop & Exhibition at Turning Stone Casino. We had an excellent turn out of attendees, The room was packed for the presentation. After all seats were filled attendees were left with standing room only until they had to shut the doors and actually turn people away. I want to thank the attendees that stayed standing with interest for this innovative method of Water leak detection presentation. Shadow alerted on a meter pit. We found 6 inches of water in the bottom. Nothing too concerning. Groundwater is typically found in meter pits. We tested the water and found a .07 residual for Chlorine. We did a test to see how much water was being wasted. I sped up the video so you won't have to watch the full min. The end result was about 5 gals of wasted tax payer water a min.
Do the math. There was no surfacing water. What if this leak would have gone unoticed for 10+ years.
Dogs are a great tool to add to the tool bag of leak detection devices.
