Auggie, Archie, and Charlie are all practicing their place stay today!

These three tend to amp each other up, so practicing impulse control both individually and as a pack is a great way to introduce some peace and structure into the home. Great job, guys!

Mogli’s in the home stretch! Today we went another tandem walk with his training buddy and we did lots of work outside of the dog park - the best place to be! He did a great job around the high energy and noisiness going on inside the fence. Then we went to Bed Bath & Beyond where we practiced a down stay while I walked around the aisles - he got lots of compliments!

Practicing impulse control on place and during play with Mogli’s two favorite things : a ball and food.

Two key components to the success of these drills : an understanding of place and marker words. You’ll notice each time I say “nope”, Mogli immediately stops what he’s doing. Have you worked explicitly on a few words and the importance of their meaning? Or do you switch up “nope” and “no” and “off” and “stop” - giving very little meaning to each one of them?

Dogs don’t speak our language so in order to effectively communicate what we’d like, it’s easier to stick to a few words and make sure we’re consistent in using/training them - it’s much less confusing and frustrating for both the dog AND the handler!

More exposure for Mogli! We took another pack walk in a neighborhood full of dogs charging the fence and barking excessively (all of which are perfect distractions for his point in training) and then we went to another dog friendly restaurant. On the way there we practice holding a “down” command while in the car - he’s previously been incredibly reactive in the car, so taking away the option to keep his head on a swivel while driving makes a big difference and offers a state of calm to him. He did a wonderful job at the restaurant packed with people, some of whom approached to pet, and even stayed relaxed while a train passed behind us. This boy has come so far!

Saturdays are for the boys….and pack walks!

Mogli took another pack walk today with a brand new dog and did such a great job maintaining composure during a long walk with TONS of neighborhood dogs barking/running around as distraction. We also went to a dog friendly brewery where we encountered several dogs and people - so proud of the continued progress!

Another field trip! This time to Cabela’s - another one of my favorite training spots.

We ran into every distraction possible - kids, wheelchairs, strollers, dogs, and a TON of people - lots of whom complimented Mogli on how well behaved he was!

We walked around for the first thirty minutes, getting him acclimated to the new environment with all the same drills we’ve practiced at home and in all other settings and the last thirty minutes were spent with him calmly observing the entrance/exit as everybody passed him. Not shown is him laying perfectly content while 3 separate strangers approached in close proximity to have a conversation with me for an extended period of time. So proud of sweet Mogli!

Alllll the distractions today! Mogli worked and settled around 3 new dogs - something that wouldn’t have been possible a week ago.

This was a big distraction for all the featured pups in here during their lessons too - so proud of the progress!

Mogli’s first field trip with a training buddy - dog parks, track practice, kids on a playground - all the distractions!

Such amazing progress with Mogli!

We’re at the point in training where we see a trigger and immediately create a training scenario out of it. This sweet boy did SO well! Can’t wait to see the continued progress 🥰

Mogli is here for his 2 week board and train! He’s here to work on his dog/human reactivity in addition to a few other things.

We started with a couple hours of decompression time in the kennel to allow him to acclimate to his new environment. After that, I brought him out with Cooper to experience all the new smells and noises of his home for the next couple of weeks. He already knows the place command, so we’re able to focus on a calm state of mind while he settles in and gets familiar with his new surroundings

⚠️ Crate train your puppies! ⚠️

One of the safest/best training tips I can give you is to crate train your puppy. Give them a safe place to decompress, settle, and feel secure.

You and your dogs mindset when entering/releasing from the crate is important. Are you rushed and frantic? Or are you calm and patient, while asking the same of your puppy? Do they rush the door as soon as you open it?

We’ve been working lots on Maggie’s crate manners this week - she waits patiently while I open the door, leash her, and then release her. She also goes back in without a fight and settles right back down. Such progress this week!

SO amazed at the progress with these ladies and sweet Luca! Their dedication and hard work is paying off! He ignored Coop in close proximity, a mom and child in a stroller, and countless other distractions when normally, we’d be fighting for his attention. The sky is the limit for these three!
