Shaggy is a super easy going guy who is ready to play, cuddle, and eat treats. We are currently looking for a foster-to-adopt situation for Shaggy. Heres what his former foster parent had to say about him:
What an impressive temperament for such a young pup! This guy has perfect energy around dogs of all sizes and ages. With the large ones, he simply rolls over and lets them sniff his belly… but occasionally he falls in love with a bigger dog and galumphs after them to lick their jowls. One such “idol dog” is a burly bulldog mix with matching colors, who could be his great uncle. What an adorable
sight!
He is overjoyed to romp with others of his own kind. My own dog, Creature, has gotten used to the nonstop wrestling*. With people he is also quite sweet, but especially once he’s gotten acquainted with someone. After only a couple days, he started greeting everyone in our household with big, joyous wags. But he won’t go running up to every stranger in the park. He follows me like a quiet,
clumsy shadow—it took less than 24 hours for him to bond super closely! I don’t even have to use a leash. My two-legged friends are very impressed with his good behavior.
*Don’t get me wrong, he sleeps through the night. Oh boy, does he sleep through the night! He earned his Wolf Scout badge in “cuddling.”
Motivated by both food and play, he is very easy to train. He’s made great progress on sit, come, and drop-it. He really loves being petted (bring on the belly rubs!) so that makes training simple if you run out of treats.
He’s also made huge strides on housetraining! No more accidents, and it’s
only been a few days—I just make sure to take him outside frequently and after he’s eaten or awoken. If you’re eager to shape a dog from the beginning, he is a pretty good “bank slate” to work with. And since he’s been in foster, he comes with a headstart on socializing, rather than the stress of a noisy shelter environment.
To date, he has: stepped on the edge of a water bowl so it catapulted water in his face; fallen in an overgrown ditch he didn’t realize was there; fallen in the same ditch on the way back; and tripped over flat ground.
Like any healthy puppy, he needs to be provided with plenty of chew toys. He does have some separation anxiety, which is fairly normal for a pup his age. His only real “issue” is guarding food—and I don’t mean a stray treat here or there, but a nice big pile of food. That’s the only time I’ve seen his protective side emerge, but with calmness, firmness and consistency he relents rather
quickly. He is young enough that this behavioral issue can definitely be squashed before it escalates.
(And I can understand where it came from: he and his littermates arrived emaciated at Sammie’s Friends, so they grew up thinking there was never enough food to go around).
In summary…..do you want a hiking dog? A fetch dog? I forgot to mention he’s a PERFECT retriever! A water dog? Well maybe….he’s splashed around in some creeks and seemed to enjoy it. A snuggle dog? A dog-park dog? You have to come meet this super adoptable fellow!

I am a little shy but I am a total lover. I enjoy going for my daily walks and tend to keep to myself but I still love and want all of the belly rubs you can give. I love my boyfriend Hershey, we are quite the pair! If you're looking for a loving and adoring duo to bring your home laughter, joy and take on daily outings we are your team! Come meet us today. We were also raised around farm animals and cats.

Nova is a very sweet, very friendly and affectionate little girl. She can be a little shy at first and timid but once she warms up she is a great girl. She gets a long well with other dogs, especially her man Hershey. They came in together and are bonded at the hip. We would really love for them to go together. They are wonderful, well mannered and tempered pups who are looking for adoring hoomans to make them apart of the family. Some of the best things come in twos, so why don't you give Hershey and Nova a whirl, you won't regret it. If you are interested please GO TO: www.sammiesfriends.org to complete a pre-adoption questionnaire. You can also stop by during kennel hours Monday-Saturday 12-4pm.
