The nukes are doing very well for as dry as it has been. I couldn't get into them last week with all the smoke from Canada. So I have bees for sale. Let me know. They are busting out the top.

The new location is working out splendid. The honey here so far is very light. I have some nukes for sale. Message me....

So you saw a bunch of bees fly in or you've found a big ball of honey bees hanging in your tree, on the fence or in a bush! What is it and what do you do??? Well first off don't panic. Swarming bees are generally very gentle and are just hanging out until they can locate a new home to move into. So what you have is a swarm of honey bees! What do you do? You go to the York County Beekeepers Associations webpage and call a beekeeper on our Swarm Collector Listing. Find a beekeeper on the list in your quadrant (in relation to Rt 30 and I-83). More than likely they will be happy to come remove the honey bees for you. They will probably ask you a few questions and may ask for a photo (to confirm they are honey bees). Then they will ask how high up are the bees and how large the ball of bees is (basket ball sized, football, baseball). So check out the link to the swarm list below: https://www.ycbk.org/public-resources/local-swarm-collectors

It's time for some spring feeding, giving the girls a little boost. I take a quart jar and put a large spoon of last year's honey, four drops of Wintergreen and one tablespoon of honey bee healthy. Mix it all together with a two to one sugar water mixture. The water is filtered and boiled. Then I put it on top of the hives and they will drink that down in two or three days.

Here are some fascinating information

Honey bees make honey from nectar to fuel their flight – and our sweet tooth. But they also need pollen for protein. So they trap, brush and pack it into baskets on their legs to make a special food called bee bread.

I am checking on that package that I installed the other day

Colony Size Drives Honey Bees' Overwinter Survival

People always ask me what do the bees do in the winter . This is a great article on that from Penn State . https://entomologytoday.org/2019/01/09/colony-size-drives-honey-bees-overwinter-survival/?fbclid=IwAR3B81ClVEyQp0XgmNJ-0QGt-rO0Rbj7nIl3X3DqJhKZa11PVk_STvfJFr0

Research in Pennsylvania shows that overall colony weight and the number of worker bees to be the leading factors in determining overwintering survival of honey bee colonies.
