Cleaning out the storage to prepare for another truck of pet supplies. There is litter in front of the shelter if you can use some.

As always please be considerate and don't take an entire car/truck load. Our last batch was almost all taken by two people/vehicles. Don't be that person!

The food pantry is currently empty of cat and dog food. We hope to have another truck soon.

National rescue dog day! This is our rescue Jack. He is 13.5 years young and the inspiration behind the American Mutt Pale Ale. Every month we sponsor a dog adoption through our local shelter. It is so important to adopt not shop. Too many animals need homes. Drop a pick of your rescue pup below!

The truck has been unloaded.

Now I am loading a trailer and I will be headed to Rocky Boy at Plain Green at 2:00 pm today. I know this is short notice so if you could please share this and spread the word. It has been a couple weeks since we delivered any supplies and there are people in need.

Our food pantry is out of dog food but we are expecting a truck next weekend.

In anticipation of the new truck we are cleaning up a bit. Today I brought over some cat litter and a few other cat items. If you need some litter please help yourself. As a reminder though please be courteous and not load your entire car/truck.

Our community is so awesome!

As we have had an opportunity to clean and reorganize things at the shelter we realized we are out of space to store donated blankets, sheets, and towels. Because we do not have storage we are not accepting any more at this time.

I did contact RezQ Dogs and they will be having an extended spay/neuter clinic on Ft. Belknap this summer and they can use any blankets, towels, sheets. If you have some of these items to donate please message RezQ Dogs directly to arrange to get them to them.

While at the Havre Animal Shelter I have had the opportunity to put into place some disaster and contingency plans. These plans included what to do in case of an emergency at the shelter, if a large influx of animals came in due to a hording situation and often times just if another animal were to arrive when we were already overcrowded. One of the things I missed when putting these in place was what happens if I am not here. We only have two people here, one full time and one part time.
I recently had an emergency which took me out of state and I could not have the necessary communication that was needed to assist in shelter operations. This was something that I had never considered and there were no plans in place for what should happen. Knowing that the shelter was overcrowded and that assistance was going to be needed Kim contacted our friends at the The Humane Society of Western Montana. Without pause they put a team together and came to Havre. The team provided care for the animals while they were assessed and prepared to be transported back to Missoula. Twenty-eight animals were transferred from our shelter to the Humane Society of Western Montana’s shelter in Missoula.
I will never be able to say thank you enough to Kim and the Humane Society of Western Montana for their kindness, caring, compassion, and professionalism.
The break that this has given us is something that was needed. We will not be accepting any animals until we can do a complete review and reset of our operations. I am sorry for any inconvenience that this may cause. Animal Control complaints will still be responded to by calling the Havre Police Department’s dispatch center.

We always encourage people who have puppies/kittens to keep them with the mother until they reach at least 8 weeks of age.

Why?

- I am ugly at the 2 am feedings.
- Formula is expensive and the mothers milk is better for them as this is a critical time for their development. This group is going through a large can of formula every three days.
- Mothers teach their offspring a lot about being a puppy or kitten during this time period. Mental development is just as important as physical development.

This group of puppies will not be available for adoption for a little over a month.

This morning we received a call through FWP about a deer with an arrow in it that was last seen in the area of Pepin Park. I checked the area but did not locate any deer in the area. If anyone happens to come across this deer please contact the Havre Police Dispatch at 406-265-4361.

February and March are my least favorite and most stressful months. Why? The city tells me I have X amount of hours that I need to take off due to excess vacation and comp time. Why would that be stressful. Our current society is one where everything needs to be instantaneous. If people do not get an immediate response to messages or voicemails they get flat nasty.

I currently have 45 messages pending from this weekend and two half days off. During my limited hours the care of the animals in the shelter is our priority and I will be working through the messages as fast as I can.

Please be patient.

As a reminder if you have an animal control complaint please call the Havre Police Department and they will dispatch a person to your complaint.

If the hose is flooding your yard the best way to stop it is to turn off the valve to stop/slow the water flow.

Havre has had a problem with a cat overpopulation for years. Fixing the problem is not easy and can't be fixed over night. We have made huge improvements but the problem is still not fixed.

I can't thank Kim, Dr. Mord (Eastside Animal Hosptial), Dr. Pattison (Pattison Veterinary) and all the people who volunteered at this event enough. The work that you are doing has a huge impact on our community.

Community cats are a definition we use for cats that may not have a home but stay in a certain area. During this clinic we had several people who care for these cats that were able to round up several cats and bring them to get spay/neutered. These combined efforts are what we will need to manage the overpopulation. Thank you to all the Community Cat Caregivers who brought cats to the clinic.

We are all smiles after another great clinic! We will share more official stats a little later, but preliminary numbers reveal 92 animals spayed and neutered over the last two days! Cats: 54 females and 29 males. Dogs: 4 females and 3 males. We appreciate all of those who showed up, and we especially appreciate our staff. We are blessed with an amazing army of volunteers that we could not do this without! Thank you to everyone who made this possible! 💙🐾

Last week this kitty came to us from Lewis Heating and Air. We have had an overwhelming amount of people interested in adopting her. But the good news is her owner has been located and she is now home with her family. Apparently she has a good spot to ride on one of Lewis service trucks.

February’s Mutt of the Month…..

Meet Cupid! 💘

His heart is so big, he wears it on his side! This cute little boy is about 5 months old. Cupid loves people and other dogs; we are unsure of cats but given his young age and sweet nature- with proper introduction -should be fine. Cupid is neutered, current on all age appropriate vaccines, and microchipped. To make this little fella your forever Valentine, apply to adopt at the Havre Animal Shelter. ❤️

Updated: We are pausing for now to see what we have left from the people who have already called/messaged.

We usually see a couple bags of chicken feed on each truck coming into the food pantry. The last two trucks have had more chicken feed than we have people to take it. If you have chickens and could use some feed please contact us to arrange pickup of some (no cost). We are not storing this at the shelter so an appointment is necessary.
