This is pearl a 9month old German shepherd mix. Pearl came to us because she had been throwing up and not eating for about 1 week. On examination she was very tender on her abdomen, so an x-ray was taken. She had a very distinct gas pattern in her GI system. This type of pattern is usually consistent with an intestinal obstruction. We did an abdominal exploratory surgery to see if there was a foreign object stuck in her GI system. We wound up finding a dish towel! It was stretched out in a linear pattern, this type of foreign body is typically harder to get out but it was successfully removed! Pearl is doing fabulous after her tasty snack of a towel was removed.

Meet Pumpkin and Cutie. They are two house mates who both love food. Over the years their love for food has caught up with them. They both recently started their weight loss journey, and have lost 3 lbs each! Obesity in animals can impact their lives in a couple different ways. It can have effects on their grooming capabilities, can cause intestinal upset such as diarrhea, increase their risk of diabetes and other endocrine disease and can put a lot of pressure on their joints causing an increased risk of arthritis, orthopedic diseases and pain. Two pounds over weight may not seem like a lot but for your pet that 2lbs is equivalent to 26lbs in a human. Ways you can help combat obesity in your pets would be monitoring calorie intake (yes that includes treats), and consistent exercise. If you think your pet is over weight please feel free to schedule an appointment so our doctors can help create a plan that works best for you and your pet!

This is Buster, a 1 year old kangaroo. Buster came to see us today for his neuter and was a very sweet guy. Neutering kangaroos at a young age is important. Male kangaroos can grow to be about 200lbs and can get aggressive as they get older. Kangaroos are very strong animals so neutering them while they are young is the safest option for them and the veterinary staff. Neutering provided other medical benefits such as decreased risk of testicular and prostate cancer, and decreased risk of behavioral issues. In his pictures you can see buster modeling his surgery suit. This helps protect his incision after surgery from dirt and debris, and self inflicted trauma from scratching. This is Peanut, a 7 year old lop rabbit. He came to us for having a swollen nose. His owner noticed it had been getting bigger for about a week and when he came to us there was discharge coming from it. Peanut had an abscess on his nose. We end up draining and flushing it out and sending home pain meds and antibiotics. Because there was so much infection, we ended up putting a drain in the wound a few days later to allow for consistent drainage for the next couple of days. When peanut came back, we performed a sedated oral examination to ensure that his teeth were in good condition. There are multiple reason rabbits can get face abscesses such as infected teeth, foreign body puncture, and trauma to the area. This is why good oral exams and dentals are super important in rabbits!
