We, at Hope For Pits stand for those dogs who may not be the “easiest” breeds and temperaments to place.

We have built our rescue on one of the most feared, shunned, and MISJUDGED breeds of dog.

There is a reason for that. We DARE to have the dedication, fearlessness, and the STRENGTH of character plus the TRUST in the inherent goodness of the innocent lives we save and rehabilitate.

Though most of our dogs are non-reactive—there are a few that need more work than others—-and guess what?

We rescue pitbulls.

Those hard-work dogs are GOOD 👏🏻 DOGS 👏🏻 TOO 👏🏻.

And they deserve the same chance at life as all the others.

❤️🐾Hey friends! ❤️🐾

While we have temporarily ceased intake we do still have 31 dogs and pups needing continued medical care and expenses. Our goal is to work on getting these babies adopted out into their forever homes so we have space to keep saving dogs in need, but with that means we MUST take care of them in the process and still have our daily bills piling up. Currently we have :

Kia who will need continued visits and therapy for her healing post surgery.

Hope- who is still facing major orthopedic surgery AFTER we conquer her stage three heartworms for which she is currently receiving treatment.

Henry- who is currently undergoing heart worm treatment

And of course all the puppies with continued vaccines and our usual spay and neuter surgeries.

Thanks to you guys we were able to pay off the bill at First Coast ER for the parvo babies. However our rescue account is still looking slim and we want to continue to provide the best care possible for all around.

❤️Hello friends! Please read this important announcement ❤️

We at HopeForPits have decided that we need to temporarily cease intake of all forms while we work on an internal renovation.

As a young rescue, we have tried our best to help every dog or puppy presented to us—because trust us when we say—it is extremely difficult to say NO. But unfortunately, we have had to learn from experience that it is simply not possible to keep saying yes.

Intake clarification regarding the Parvo situation:

19 puppies were taken from one location and 8 puppies plus their mama from another. The stray mama and her 8 came with a foster already in-place who had reached out asking for our support.

The 19:
We experienced parvo immediately UPON INTAKE with 7 of our 19 puppies (the 7 had been separated from the other 12 in that person’s house) and despite ours and our vets’ best efforts, we lost Loki, Bessie, Biggie and Smalls. Our hearts are incredibly broken but this has also opened our eyes that we have taken on too much as a young rescue and it’s time to pull back.

We cannot in good faith continue to intake dogs when it could possibly compromise the care of those we are already committed to and we refuse to provide anything but the best for our dogs.

We are planning to expand our administrative department prior to re-opening our doors in an effort to ensure a faster response time to better meet the needs of our fosters and adopters.

We truly apologize for our shortcomings and we know that some people have been disappointed along the way as we have worked on developing our best practices.

When you run a non-profit dog rescue—emotions run high. Regardless of whether you have been established for 3 years or 30–there will always be criticism. Some of that will be unfounded and accusatory and some will be constructive. What we want to stress is that we are committed to each and every life we save and we do RIGHT by these dogs. Building this rescue has been a long hard road and we have been far from perfect but every decision we have ever made has been with the best interests of our dogs in mind.

We also want to say that we are THANKFUL for every single person who supports our rescue.

We assure everyone this is not the end of Hope for Pits, it is simply us taking a step back so we can focus on finding forever homes for the current dogs in our care as well as re-evaluate and re-vamp our processes and procedures. We need to do this so that we can come back stronger and be the best rescue going forward.

Do y’all remember little Porkchop who was dumped in a truck stop and found eating rocks?

Well, his foster mama did an AMAZING job nursing him back to health and he has now fully recovered and was adopted by an amazing family this week!!!

Our hearts are so happy knowing that this poor, sweet, baby boy will now live the rest of his life knowing nothing but love and a full belly!

❤️🐾 Sweet Henry is looking for his happily ever after as dog of the day! ❤️🐾

Henry’s foster mama wrote some fun facts about this sweet boy!

Things Henry does which make him the bestest boy:

• He leans his little head into our hands when he’s really enjoying his ear rub
• When he gets excited, he lets out the cutest little huffs and whines
• When he does nibbles his nose goes extra wrinkly
• At bedtime he roots under the covers and lays right beside you
• Whether it’s his paw or face, he must always be touching you
• He starts every single day with a hug
• He is extra cute and squishy when he’s tired
• When he runs around, he hops like a bunny leaping into the air
• Right before walkies you can see him do tippy taps with his feet out of excitement
• When he gets a new toy, he insists on carrying it out of the store
• If you sit on the floor, he takes that as an invitation to sit in your lap
• He is the most polite boy and takes food so gently
• Sometimes when he falls asleep, he loves to have his blankie in his mouth
• He still thinks he’s a tiny puppy, but shhh we’re not going to tell him

Henry is dog selective and not kitty friendly so meet and greets will be required prior to adoption.

🎉We have been crying TEARS OF JOY instead of tears of sorrow and I cannot stop smiling!!!

They are not quite ready to be discharged, but once they are—it will still be a very structured and careful recovery process. They will need to be kept in a STERILE environment and we prefer to have a foster home with zero other dogs just to prevent the potential for cross-contamination as they shed the rest of the virus from their systems. (Can you help?)

🚨 LILO AND MARY J UPDATE 🚨

Hi friends, Lilo and Mary J are STILL fighting for their lives.

I know these photos are difficult to see…but this is our reality right now. They both started eating on their own a little bit over the last 12-24 hours and we JUST CANNOT give up now that they are showing little signs of improvement.

The decision to release Bessie from pain was very clear…but these girls are doing a great deal better than she ever did while she was hospitalized.

🌈💔 We truly are losing our minds with grief right now. We are so sorry to announce that Smalls passed away last night. 💔🌈

Our babies are dying. It has taken me all morning to gather the energy to share this update.

Our baby boy Biggie—who was being treated outpatient—suddenly died last night at 2:47am.

The last 2 outpatient babies—Lulu and Smalls—are so incredibly depressed this morning and it is heartbreaking.

Good news: Our two girls who are hospitalized are actually rebounding this morning!!

We are shattered but we won’t stop trying to save these babies.

She has been steadily improving BUT unfortunately this afternoon the doctor’s determined that she needs a feeding tube.

❤️ MAMA LOLA AND HER 8 BEANS ❤️

Hi all!!

This mama and her babies are the remaining tally for the 27 puppy intake we just accomplished.
We have neglected posting them during the last week due to dealing with parvo (we will update on Bessie as well today) and we just couldn’t wait any longer to share them!

Mama was found as a stray by an amazing person who took her in and then discovered she was pregnant 🤦🏻‍♀️

The original finder took care of them and then reached out for help and of course we couldn’t turn them away!

These babies are HAPPY AND HEALTHY thankfully and will be ready to go home by May 10!!

We are thankful for the original finder who fostered along with an additional amazing foster who came along to help with this precious family!

💜 Baby Bessie PARVO Pupdate 💜

Our little girl made it through the night!! 👏🏻

She is also showing signs of improvement today!
Yesterday, her blood pressure at admission was only 60 and this morning it has risen to 112 😭🥰.

We are by NO means out of the woods yet but I can’t help but feel a little hopeful with her improvement and also this precious little picture they sent where she looks a little better. They will be running more bloodwork at 11am today.

Please know that WE STILL NEED DONATIONS.

This case has wiped out any funds we had on-hand even with the donations that have come in. Bessie will definitely need to be hospitalized another full 24 hours at least and that is going to be an additional $2k easily.

🚨UPDATE 9:30pm: I just spoke with Dr Fisher and Bessie is in sepsis. She is holding on, but if she makes it through tonight, she WILL need to continue to be hospitalized which means another $1500-2000. We are doing everything we can for this sweet baby girl. In tears over here. 🚨

She remains in critical condition and honestly all we can do is pray now.

THANK YOU ALL—You guys helped us cover the cost in-full of her $1900 bill that will get us through the next 24 hours UNLESS she needs a blood transfusion which is highly possible.

Please keep her (especially) and her many siblings in your thoughts and prayers as we go into this tough time of waiting.

We are going to do as much preventative care as possible for the siblings she was directly exposed to in the hope that they will be ok.

❤️ WELCOME BABIES ❤️ We saved these SEVEN babies from Putnam county AC after they were confiscated last night along with 5-6 other adult dogs from a cruelty case. Our amazing transporter, our foster, and myself spent the entire morning getting them settled-in, bathed, and fed/hydrated. These precious souls show the ugly reality of rescue. When they were confiscated, one of their siblings was laying dead next to them. They don’t know how to WALK PROPERLY and walk scrunched-up because of being shoved in tiny crates their entire short lives….and NOW, my foster is headed to Capital Veterinary Specialists - Jacksonville with our precious little one-eyed girl we’ve named 🌟 Elise 🌟because she is having severe respiratory congestion. We were worried about her this morning and rightly so… I know we ask a lot of you guys—but if anyone can send us donations tonight to help get this little girl healthy, we would appreciate it so much. The issue is—she is dog-selective (must be kept separate at first until we can try to introduce!) and she also likes to chase cats. Our original plan was to place her in boarding due to her original foster mom not being able to keep her anymore, but there is NO WAY we can board her with her delicate health right now. PLEASE help us. We try so hard to do right by these precious souls and we simply cannot keep this rescue functional without dedicated foster homes.
