Just in case you didn't know!

‼️🚫 ANNUAL CHRISTMAS "TREATS" WARNING!!! 🚫‼️

Just a warning regarding the Xmas "rawhide treats" many stores are now starting to stock for dogs at Christmas.
Many of these so called treats end up with the dog experiencing some time in a veterinary clinic having surgery over Christmas.
The vast majority of these rawhide products and treats come from China. The chews are made from cattle or horse hides and their journey starts with the hides being soaked in a toxic sodium sulphide to remove the hair and fat. More chemicals are used in order to split the hide into layers which is then washed with hydrogen peroxide to give the white "pure" look and remove the rancid smell.
Now comes the pretty festive colors and the glue to form cute shapes. On testing, these chews have shown traces of arsenic, mercury, chromium and formaldehyde.
If that wasn't bad enough, they regularly cause intestinal blockages, poisoning from chemical residue and choking.
The chews go slippery when wet and are near impossible to get hold of to save a choking dog.
Leave them in the store where they belong or if some well meaning person buys them for your dog put them safely away for later, then discard them in the trash can!

SALT DOUGH ORNAMENTS ARE TOXIC TO DOGS
Not all dog-owners are aware of this danger. Often, families will make these ornaments as a holiday activity together, or they will come home from school with the kids. Some people make paw prints in salt dough as keepsakes.
They are made from flour, water, and lots of salt, and dogs may be tempted to eat them like a cookie. You think they taste terrible, but that does not stop some dogs from ingesting them. Same holds true for craft-dough which has a lot of salt too.
Best to keep them out of the home if you have pets, or, at least, way out of reach, but why take chances.
Excess salt intake in dogs results in vomiting within several hours of ingestion. There is great thirst and urination. The clinical signs of salt poisoning can progress to weakness, diarrhea, muscle tremors, seizures, coma. Depending on the size of the dog and the amount ingested, it can result in brain damage, organ failure, even death, or the heartbreaking decision to euthanize.
If ingested, contact a vet immediately; this could qualify as an emergency, and make sure to relay how much dough was eaten and that the vet clinic understands right off the hop that it was not a typical cookie or regular dough eaten, but salt dough with a high concentration of salt.
Be aware. Be safe.

Not All Bones Are Good for Your Pup 🦴🐕

Never give your dog any type of cooked (“brittle”) bones, as they can cause potentially life-threatening injuries. 🆘

📌 When feeding bones to your dog, make sure that they’re raw, appropriately sized, and that you are there to supervise.

Desensitizing to the "spooky" hair dryer...vacumn, etc...
That spooky noise maker can be really scary to puppies. But guess what else can? THE CORD!
Alot of appliances you use have long cords.
So... the spooky "noise" monster also has a long tail.
I had to desensitize Pixie to mine. And especially to the extention cord.
Since she is now on board with her clicker training, I click and treated each approach towards it, to sniffing it, and then to the long cords. Finally, to the sound of it from a distance.
We're good now! Positive rocks!
( so do little pappys...em em..) 🙂

Reinforcing the crate, playpen, exercise pen. It's cool place!
Whether it's a new puppy, or newly adopted rescue..
Here's three helpful tips:
One: Make going in and out of this place a rewarding thing by placing her toys in the nap area. ( Besides treats. of course) With the door open. Free to come and go as she wants.
Especially if the pup has a high Ball drive! lol
Two: when playing fetch, just "happen" to throw the favorite ball or toy inside the open door. Reward the entry! and retrieve.
Three: After you have taught to settle on a mat..get a duplicate of your "Settle" mat and place it just outside the door that is open.
Wha-La! you have three great reinforcers of the place that they may initially be afraid of or not like at all!
