This video at the very least is thought provoking. Su***de rates in agriculture are five times higher than the national average — and shockingly, even double the rate for military veterans. Among the reasons: net farm income worries (the leading cause), social isolation among farmers, and the ever-present stigma related to mental health issues in this country.
The video shows some avenues for those who may need help. Please feel free to share. If getting the word out about these programs save one life it's definitely worthwhile. Perhaps just showing that others care could make a difference.

We tried a lil something today. We made homemade soft pretzel bites, 🥨🥨🥨 We also put cheese in part of them....it was delish! Can be served with honey mustard, or pizza sauce if that's your thing. They do take a bit of time, but actually quite easy. I think everyone agreed they were as good as those you can buy in town. And just figuring cost, it made a HUGE batch, easily less than $1. We are trying to make our budget stretch, and this was a way to have a lil treat at a fraction of the cost. We will attach recipe in comments if anyone wants to give them a try ;)

This has been a buck that we have planned for.....for many moons. We feel very fortunate to have Springwater SNE Iceman in our program. His dam, SGCH Springwater BL Janie's GotAGun 7*M , (better known as "Frosty") is a beauty, and noteworthy for so many reasons. Frosty has many show wins under her belt, including a 1st place as 3 yr old doe and 1st udder at Nationals and Total Performer Award. She has production on her side with lactations of over 1000 lbs of milk. Her most recent appraisal in 2023 was VEEE 90
His sire is Springwater Noctrnal Emissions. His genetics are nothing but stellar. His dam is GCH Daylight SB Dream Katcher VEEE 91. She was 4th at the National ADGA show in 2023 with 2nd udder in the class. His sire is Springwater OR Livn On Th Edge, who is a son of "Frosty" and Urban Acres MW Orion. So it brings those amazing genetics in on the sire's side as well. A huge thanks to Springwater Dairy Goats for the addition of this handsome fella. We hope to get nicer pictures taken next year of IceMan. These were just some casual ones we snapped of him being his lil self. In addition to those amazing genetics he has the sweetest temperament!

My sister, Linda, inspired these Snickerdoodle cookies without knowing she did so. She made a post about cream of tartar. I learned a few things and decided to test the science behind it. ;)

First of all....did you know cream of tartar is the dry, powdery, acidic byproduct of fermenting grapes into wine. Who knew??!!
Second....we learned why cream.of tartar is used in snickerdoodles. It's what separates a tangy, chewy snickerdoodle from an ordinary cinnamon-coated sugar cookie. The acid in cream of tartar gives snickerdoodles their distinctive tangy flavor, and the chew happens because cream of tartar prevents sugar in the cookie dough from crystalizing into crunchiness.
Tadaa!!! Science!!

We had a special blessing this week, a visit from my brother, Roger, from SD. We decided to make a batch of Peppernuts yesterday while he was here. For those of you who may not know, peppernuts or, "pfeffernűsse", are a small crunchy spice cookie of german origin. This was a Christmas tradition in our family growing up. The whole family was usually involved as it's quite a process to roll, cut, and bake these. And this recipe makes a huge batch. Our family was known to even make multiple batches of these during the holidays. I know there are many versions of this cookie but this was the one our family always made. (recipe included in pictures if you are interested) Last evening our kids Logan, Nicole and nephews, Larimie and Zach, were here to sample them as well. All seemed to approve.❤️

This one may not be everyone's cup of tea....but this scent spoke to my inner farm girl. The smell of fresh mown hay.....is there anything better???? We named this one "Till the Cows come home". We made just a few of these soap bars as we were unsure as to if others would love this as much as we do. But it turned out cool in our opinion. ❤️

We tried a super easy muffin recipe today. If you haven't tried these we definitely recommend them. It's just 1 spice cake mix and 1 can pumpkin, mix that together. Mix in 1 cup chocolate chips and bake at 350° about 25 minutes. We mixed in a bit of ground flax/chia seeds as well (optional). This was one we would make again. Yum!

These sweet 'lil gilts are our home raised keepers.....the beginnings of our registered kunekune drove. From left to right they are " 3K Small town Gossip", "3K Better than Rubies", and "3K Bringing my Milkshake". Gossip, Ruby and Milkshake are some if the sweetest lil piggies ever!❤️

We have an exciting new addition to our herd that we are so very thrilled about! Meet "Wild In Wild H Luna Lovegood" VEEE 90. As you can see from pictures she is a gorgeous gal, such a perfect balance of dairyness and strength. And as if that wasn't enough she's a great producer, has averaged 3.5- 4 lbs per day on her most recent lactation.
And thanks to her breeders generosity, Luna comes to us bred to a pretty cool buck as well....Twin Arrows Sharp Dressed Man. "Manny" comes from milky genetics and is a looker to boot.
We would like to give a sincere thank you to Twin Arrows Farm for allowing us to add this lovely girl. We are quite smitten with her, and she's already finding her place here in our herd.

Our latest little farm additions...2 registered kunekune gilts from 2N4 Kunekunes in Oklahoma. They were recently weaned and we were told they were perfect little travelers. They have been named "2N4 Big B***y Judy" and "2N4 All Gussied Up". Judy and Gussie are fitting in well and both come from some great genetic lines. We are thankful to Jill and Gary at 2N4 Kunekunes for allowing us to add these sweet little ladies.

Have you ever tried Halloumi cheese? Omg....if you get the chance...DO IT! It is a semi hard cheese, a bit similar to Mozzarella, it's EXCELLENT for grilling or frying. A sweet friend, Serrah, at S K West Nigerian Dwarf Dairy Goats shared some she had made with us. It is definitely on our "to do" list to try to make. Our whole family enjoyed it.
