Fun fact, all pets get some sort of noise protection while they're getting blow dried. If they won't tolerate the Happy Hoodie (pictured) I still will put cotton balls in the ears to muffle the sound. I find it greatly reduces stress due to our friends' sensitive hearing. Also it looks silly and makes me smile.

Today was a really good reminder why I'm certified. This is Prince, who is historically considered a spicy kitty at the vet. His owner wasn't sure how his first grooming would go but with calming music, a quiet environment just me and him, she was happy to watch this relatively calm kitty get groomed with minimal restraint. Of course I maintained caution the whole time (cat bites are no joke!) but was able to keep him under his emotional threshold so he didn't feel a need to escalate to that point.

My own little dog Gwynnie has been struggling with some on and off again non-contagious skin infection issues which haven't had a simple cause/solution. Sometimes it just comes with age, decreased immunity, all sorts of things. I even ended up shaving her (I know, a crime against cavaliers) for easier access to apply her prescribed topical meds and to ensure the area stays clean and dry. was kind enough to let me try their DermaSkin ointment and it seems to have helped decrease some of the itching and irritation quite well! Thank you!

I'm excited to be offering needs-based pet grooming services to clients who may be struggling to afford certain parts of their beloved pets' care!

Volunteer Grooming with Keegan at Treats Unleashed Northland - FAQ
● Who does this apply to? How much do the needs-based services cost?
○ The volunteer-based services are for
those who are disabled or meet the low income requirements outlined by Parkville Living Center. Needs-based clients are eligible for their choice of a 50% off discount or a free grooming service (the 50% off program may have sooner openings than the free program).

We can groom both dogs and cats. Grooms include bath, haircut for applicable breeds, nail trim/file, ears cleaned, and teeth brushed.

Pricing varies by pet/breed and the service provided. Tips on a "pay what you can" basis are welcome but not required or expected. Groomers generally purchase and maintain their own professional-grade tools which can be costly - so paying what you can will help support the groomers' efforts to continue offering these services to people in the future!

● How can I apply?
○ Contact Marcus at the Parkville Living Center - (816) 741-6824. If approved, your information will be forwarded to the Treats Unleashed team and we will contact you to schedule your groom.

● How many clients can you accept into this program?
○ There isn’t a hard limit to the number of total clients at this point, only a set limit to how many free or discounted grooms we can schedule per month, once that quota is met we may have to schedule for the month after and so on.

● Are there any disqualifying factors for the pets?
○ The pets must meet Treats Unleashed grooming criteria. We do require proof of current rabies and distemper combo vaccines - Pet Resource Center of Kansas City is a good resource for low cost vaccine clinics. Bordetella is also recommended but not required.

We cannot accept pets that display unprovoked aggression, or pets on sedatives. If significant behavioral/emotional distress is noted, the groom may be unfinished at the groomers' discretion for the safety of both the pet and groomer.

If fleas are discovered during the grooming process we will have to stop and send home due to high risk of contagion to other pets or infesting the salon, so it is strongly recommended to keep your pet on a preventative.

● Tell me about the grooming environment. Will they be kenneled?
○ Treats Unleashed focuses on providing a low-stress environment. Keegan is also
one of the only AKC S.A.F.E. and Fear Free certified grooming professionals in
the area, which means he focuses on providing a safe grooming process that also works with, not against the pet and uses positive reinforcement and desensitization training to make the steps of the process as low stress as
possible. We diffuse soothing pheromones, play calming music, and won’t use harsh handling techniques in the name of getting the job done.

We provide a one-on-one service and work on your pet from the time you check in to the time we call you to let you know they’re complete - usually within a couple hours, give or take depending on the dog’s size. We request pickup within 45 minutes of completion. The pet may be kenneled for brief periods, such as while awaiting pickup, for safety reasons. Please let your groomer know if your pet has a known problem with being kenneled.
