Quinn limped through our doors underweight and unable to place weight on her front leg. Despite her pain, the 2-year-old was full of affection as our vets examined her ♥

When X-rays revealed severe abnormalities in her elbow joint from a previous injury, our vet team met to discuss the best plan for Quinn. Her chronic pain would only intensify as this sweet girl aged, and amputation was her best chance for a long, happy life.

The morning after her surgery, Quinn greeted her care team with bright eyes and a wagging tail, soaking up all the love they had to give and enjoying her tasty yet nutritious breakfast. While she is undoubtedly in less pain and much happier than the day she arrived, she still needs time in care before she will be ready to meet a family of her own. It’s not just for cars – this program also takes snowmobiles, jet skis, trailers, boats, RVs, motorcycles, off-road vehicles, heavy equipment, and most other motorized vehicles. It doesn’t even have to run to be accepted!

Last summer, the Safe Harbor Humane Society became the Wisconsin Humane Society Kenosha Campus! 🥳

In our first year of operation, we’ve made great strides and have been absolutely floored by the Kenosha community ♥ Because of your support, we’ve been able to dramatically decrease the length of stay for animals, hire a veterinarian (as well as other important positions to support our work), offer increased depth of veterinary support, provide extensive training to staff, made critical building improvements like flooring and HVAC repairs, and launched Pet Walk, a fundraising event on August 3 at Pets Park in Kenosha!
More than 3,500 animals have come through our doors in our first year, and we’re proud to have made a difference for these animals and their families!

Of course, the work is far from over. Systemic issues remain, like the lack of affordable, pet-friendly housing and the rapidly rising cost of veterinary care. We’re continuing our lifesaving work with initiatives to better serve the community, including public access to low-cost spay/neuter services, low-cost vaccine clinics open to everyone, a pet food pantry to bridge financial gaps to keep families together, additional building and kenneling upgrades, expanded adoption hours in the summer, expansion of our foster program, and reduced dog adoption fees.

Sabrina - 4.5 years old and amazing. Must be the only pet but is AMAZING with all humanes. If you have kids 5 years and younger, all you need to do it talk to an operations manager. Her adoption fee is 50% off with our Change Their Luck Adoption Incentive so it is no longer $299, but is $149.50. As of today she has been at the shelter for 277 days. She is also a Rettungs-Haus Shepherds Inc. Scholarship Recipient! This means that she will receive a one-on-one evaluation for the RHS team, either a 6 week training course or a one time private session, and a spa day all at no cost to her future adopter!
