A few days ago i was buying a snack at a gas station and the lady behind the counter saw my Pet pedicures shirt. Her eyes got real big and she said “ohhhh pedicures for pets?! Those must be some really spoiled animals who get those!!!!” I refrained from getting on my soapbox but it did get me to thinking. I wondered how many other people feel this way?! I wonder how many people look at their dogs nails, see them hittin the floor or curling around their paw pad and think that’s just the way it’s suppose to be for dogs. HOW TO KNOW IF YOUR DOG IS IN PAIN

Pant, drool, is slow to stand up from a laying position, trembles, limps, excessively lick, pace the floor, seem restless, shows aggression that was never present before, irritability, tail tucked, stopped or reduced eating, spending more time sleeping, yelping or whining. These are all signs of pain/ discomfort in dogs. There are so many things that can cause this kind of pain for your pet, one of which being overgrown nails.
Dog nails are too long when they touch the floor as they walk (this is the equivalent of walking in stiletto heels all the time! Can you even imagine?!!) All your pet really wants from you is your undivided attention 24/7 🤣 and the ability to feel their absolute best without pain. You obviously can’t give them the first one, but you can totally help them to be pain free! So many people aren’t aware that their pets need nail trims just as often as we do. Crazy concept huh?!?
For optimum comfort your pets nails will not touch the floor when standing on all 4 feet. What a lot of people don’t know is what will happen if their nails aren’t kept this short, Over time their feet will actually slowly start to change shape to compensate from having to walk on their nails instead of the pads of their feet. As you can imagine, this becomes very painful for them ( just imagine walking in stiletto heels all day every day!) Will your pet complain? Likely not. Dogs are made to hide their pain, it’s part of what’s keeps them alive in the wild. You won’t know it, But their feet will hurt , which will lead to their legs hurting and before long they will have trouble even walking at all. At this point most dogs put on extra weight from lack of movement.
This is something that can sooooo easily be prevented. Get your dogs nails clipped every 4-8 weeks, starting as a puppy and for the rest of their lives. Can you believe that up until today this sweet baby had to receive sedation to receive a nail trim??? That’s right!!!!!!… Even she couldn’t understand why……. She says she’s just a little excited 😬 and wiggly, but not vicious or annnnnnything!!!

You already get your dogs nails cut on a regular schedule so why are their nails still long PART 2:
The 2nd reason why your dogs nails may still be clicking the floor despite frequent clipping, is that their nails are just not being cut short enough to get their quicks to recede. Many well intending people still cut only the tips off when cutting their dogs nails. They either don’t know exactly how far they can cut, or they are scared they will hurt the dog by clipping too far, or the dog starts fighting so bad that they simply can’t handle the dog any longer.

YOU GET YOUR DOGS NAILS CUT SO WHY ARE THEY STILL LONG!?!
You already get your dogs nails clipped on a regular schedule and spend quite a bit of money to get them done, so, why are their nails still clicking when they hit the floor??
There are a few reasons why this might be.
You’re not getting them cut often enough. Believe it or not, the difference between getting pet nails cut every 4-6 weeks and getting pet nails cut every 8-10 weeks is REALLY REALLY BIG, like, HUGE!
It also makes a Difference as to what breed of dog you have. For example: pugs and vizslas usually have longer quicks naturally and therefore need their nails cut more often, usually between 3-4 weeks. Whereas breeds like labs and golden retrievers can usually go a little longer between clippings, like 6 weeks. We have seen some (rarely) breeds who naturally have short quicks AND their nails just don’t grow fast- these dogs can go 8 weeks and longer, but this is not something we see very often.
When you hire pet pedicures we take each individual dog and look at their quick placement, consider their breed and the timing of which their nails have been clipped and we give you a nail clipping plan that is personalized to only you!
