This is the final pull into Forresthill up Bath Rd. The decision was made to quit the trip at Forresthill. The donkeys were motoring strong but there were enough equipment wear marks that we decided not to push it any farther. The donkeys just traveled an incredibly rough 69 miles, their integrity is immeasurable!

Leaving the cemetery in Deadwood for a 14 mile day. Two canyons to cross and it was much hotter so JoDe sent her dogs home the night before.

Donkeys on the Western States Trail day 3.
They had an early start for another 20 mile day headed for the swinging bridge. Leaving Last Chance at 4500 feet then dropping to the American River at 2800 feet and back up to the ghost town of Deadwood at almost 4400 feet. These donkeys are amazing!

Donkeys on the Western States Trail day 2.
From Hodges Meadow they traveled 16 miles to Robinson Flat for their second night camping. There was no water on the trail all day and after arriving at Robison they discovered the hand pump was locked, they had 6 very thirsty donkeys. Fortunately there was a water tank left from the loggers, a little warm but the donkeys were happy.

Donkeys on the Western States Trail day 1.
The donkeys rode from Robie Park then into the Granite Chief wilderness where the summit is a little over 8900 feet. They traveled 20 miles camping at Hodges Meadows for the night where they could tank up on good grass.

JoDe and some friends are off on another fun adventure. She left out of Robie Park in Truckee Sunday July 17th at 6:36 am. They are planning to cover the entire 100 miles of the Tevis Cup route over the next 5 days. Jody & Chris Lowery of Reno as well as Dave Drewery of Auburn, have joined JoDe with 6 donkeys riding, hiking, packing and camping along the Western States Trail for 100 scenic miles just days after the Tevis Cup Race was completed.
Chris is on foot and has a GPS tracker if you’d like to follow their progress.
The following are photos from Saturday nights camping and Sunday mornings departure from Robie Park. Videos to follow

What an absolutely beautiful (hard) ride!!! So much up and down! Inspite of the terrain, the mules were great, finishing 13th-16th. Pretty tough ride- really tough mules!!!
We will do this one again!!!

The General sat out Fireworks so that I could ride him at Gold Country and decide if he was ready to attempt Tevis this year. He went strong all day, vetting well, but I decided to not push it. He’ll be better for another year of 50’s. And there’s always next year!

Gold Country Mule & Donkey Show, June 15-16, 2019.
Gold Country Mule & Donkey Show was again a successful show. Such a beautiful facility at Triple Crow Equestrian Center and great selection of classes. (Sure doesn’t hurt that it’s so close to home either!)
Looking forward to the September 21-22, 2019 show, hope to see you there!

Wild West Pioneer Ride 2019!
The mules were awesome! Grady (Trickery) started the ride at warped speed and kept his brothers hustling for the first 20 miles! He may be the littlest, but he can sure trot!
We added Jani Nelson to the pack. A first 50 for her and she was stellar! Jani Nelson is a full sister to Wide Awake!

Double C’s Hat Trick AKA Willie was honored with the Hall of Fame Donkey award at Bishop Mule Days. So very proud of him. At 20 years of age he and his offspring have brought me many years of pleasure, and I look forward to many more!
