PERMANENT Old Dog Haven FOSTER/HOSPICE HOME NEEDED:
(in W. Washington state or Portland, OR only)

"Bear" is a neutered male, sheltie mix, A very handsome, 22-pound fluffy dog.
He has been through some really tough situations the last few years and now badly needs a home to watch over his medical needs and give him love and security. He's had a chronic cough for some time (perhaps partially environmental) which led to two emergency hospitalizations (aspiration pneumonia and bronchitis with tracheal collapse). His cough is now much improved in a better situation and with consistent meds but it is not going to be "fixed". He has arthritis in his spine as well. He's now relearning how to potty outside! and his anxiety has subsided along with some of the cough. He's a calm dog with no behavioral issues, doesn't seem to react to other dogs and is fine with cats - and he never barks. He is a sweet gentle guy with those adorable ears! We would really like for him to have a chance for medical care, love and security for as long as he can be comfortable.

The great thing about fostering for us is, all vet bills are covered. You aren't adopting a senior dog but you are forever fostering it which means it stays with you for life and our organization pays the bills (thanks to donations!).

Here's where you can read more about becoming a permanent foster for Old Dog Haven: https://olddoghaven.org/how-to-help/fostering/

We'd love to bring Bear into our rescue. Old Dog Haven has no facility or shelter, every dog we take into our care goes into a private home-a home that has been thoroughly vetted. There's a process to become a forever foster for us that includes a home visit which is why sending dogs outside of W. Washington or Portland, OR is not possible. We know this is frustrating to some but please remember, we have the dogs' best interest in mind and hope those of you who live outside of our foster area will still share our plea because you may reach someone who can foster for us!

We appreciate that so many of you want to help senior dogs. If you are not in our area, check with your local rescues and shelters about fostering or adopting. There are senior dogs (and dogs of all ages) in need everywhere.

Happy Friday Friends!

We checked in with Coco's shelter foster to ask for some new photos and this was one she sent us. Coco sounds like a sweetie! He's lucky to have a shelter foster but he is ready for a forever home! Let's help Coco find that through our shares today!

Coco is a wonderful, easy-going senior looking for a soft couch to snuggle up on in a forever home! He’s a champion couch potato who enjoys spending most of the day hanging out somewhere comfortable. He also loves lounging in the sun and will sometimes ask to go outside just to find a sunny spot! Here's a great video of Coco:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Pw3xbDBkbk

Even though he’s almost ten years old, Coco has still some get and go! He’s not super active but does need a home that will give him those brief energy outlets so he can snooze the rest of the day. He loves going for walks, playing tug, fire hose toys (the only ones he can’t destroy in minutes), and will occasionally get the zoomies!

Coco loves people and thinks that everyone wants a kiss from him! He’s an affectionate guy, but not overly needy, and will go settle on his own after some pets and love. He prefers having people around but has also been okay with being left alone at his foster home when necessary.

Coco came to the shelter in April when his senior owners could no longer care for him. At that time he was a little chunky and has slimmed down to around 69 pounds. He is very food-motivated and will gladly work for treats! He also enjoys an after-dinner chew every night before he puts himself to bed around 7pm.

Coco can be leash reactive with other dogs (but loved playing with them when he was at the shelter) and needs a home with no cats or small animals. Coco would love a family that is willing to continue to work with him to be comfortable seeing other dogs as he enjoys his walks and gets so excited to go he’ll hop into his harness!

Coco is posted for the Regional Animal Services of King County (RASKC) in Kent, WA.

You can find out more about Coco and other animals on their website at www.kingcounty.gov/adoptapet.If you have questions, please contact RASKC via phone at 206-296-7387 (PETS) or email [email protected]. RASKC is open from noon to 5pm Monday through Friday, and noon to 4pm on Saturday and Sunday. The address is 21615 64th Ave S, Kent, WA 98032.

This is not an Old Dog Haven dog. Old Dog Haven has not assessed this dog for medical issues and will not be responsible for medical care after adoption. We urge prospective adopters to do their own evaluation.

Folks please pass this on....

It's going to be HOT HOT HOT outside for the next few days.

DO NOT Take your four legged family member (dog) on any hikes. Imagine you wearing a fur coat and it's 99 degrees outside. Your dog will overheat within 20 minutes and DIE.

Most of the water/ ponds/lakes/slow moving rivers have heavy algae growth in them. Due to the heat. This will also KILL YOU beloved dog.

Stay at home with your dog or leave them inside an air conditioned home and they can watch Utube dog channel while sipping cool clean water and eating delicious doggy snacks.

If you do take them to a clean running river, please make sure
1). Dog has a seat belt in vehicle.
2). Dog has PFD Personal Floatation Device and wears it while swimming. (Yes dogs drown every summer and winter when tired.)
3). be safe don't drink/vape/smoke whacky w**d and drive.
enjoy your weekend.
thanks

INTEGRITY YOU CAN TRUST - SERVICE YOU CAN COUNT ON.

The bond of love between humans and animals is expressed by this story.

"When Her Little Dog Cried and Said Good-bye".
By Mr. Harry Oakes, Search and Rescue Coordinator & Dog Handler.

On 08-06-96, we flew two K-9 SAR Dog teams to Tennessee, to try and find a kidnapped victim. The lead dog handler, Harry E. Oakes Jr. with Search and Rescue (SAR) Dog Valorie, took time from his work and donated his own money, time, and skills to assist on this case.

When we arrived at the little girl's home, we found a little brown pregnant dachshund named Mudpuddle. The sadness in her eyes said it all. Her heart was aching and broken and if you looked deep into her sad eyes, you could see the tears. You could feel the emptiness and loneliness in her heart as her best friend, Jackie, was gone, taken by a monster, forever. A monster named "R" had stolen her 9 year old partner named Jackie from the front yard, savagely ra**ng her and then strangling her to death. Then the monster buried the little girl in a cold, wet, shallow, dirt grave.

When we started our search for the little girl, our hearts were filled with sadness when our dogs tracked the victim to the suspect's car, and then to where he performed his horrible acts of terror. When our dogs gave the death alerts in the suspect's vehicle, we knew that Jackie would never return to Mudpuddle, or her family alive.

When we were all done with our search, I was sitting down with my dog, Valorie, wiping the tears from my eyes. I was looking into the sky trying to find some answers and comfort in what we do, from God above. I felt a nudge, a soft gentle nudge of a little scared dog with a broken heart. She was asking me if she could share her pain. In my heart as I looked deep into her big brown sad eyes, I could feel that she was asking me if her best friend was coming home. I pulled her close, gave her a long hug, and I kissed her gently on her head. I sadly told her that her best friend would never be coming home again and that "It wasn't her fault at all, her best friend Jackie was dead" and I reassured Mudpuddle that we shared in her loss and sorrow.

You see, when I talked to Jackie's mother, I was told that Mudpuddle never left Jackie's side. If Jackie got a bath, so did Mudpuddle. If Jackie went to school, Mudpuddle was there, waiting to walk her home. When Jackie went to bed. Mudpuddle was lying there asleep next to Jackie on the bed, protecting her from the night. They were inseparable. When Jackie disappeared that day, Mudpuddle had been at her side and was forced by "R" to be separated from Jackie.

Mudpuddle was found by the family, police, and searchers, lying right at the spot where "R" abducted little Jackie. And where he had driven off with Jackie, leaving poor little Mudpuddle all alone in the rain, shivering and cold, crying for her Jackie. Mudpuddle wouldn't leave the spot from where her partner, Jackie, was taken.

Mudpuddle was never to see her friend alive again. When I saw the sadness in her heart and in her eyes, I held her close and reassured her that she did everything she could, and this wasn't her fault. As I held Mudpuddle gently in my arms and as I talked with her, a peace seemed to come over her heart and Mudpuddle gently licked my face and laid her head on my shoulder and whined. As the tears streamed down my face, I could feel a little broken heart next to mine. I had to go, and as I walked my own SAR Dog Valorie to the van, I looked back at Mudpuddle and bent down one more time and gave her a hug and a kiss and told her she was a good girl.

Mudpuddle walked towards the house, paused and looked back towards me as if to say: "Thank you for doing what you did for Jackie and me." She then walked to Jackie's bedroom, lay at the entrance of the door and looked out to the woods and roads where Jackie disappeared, never to return again. She only moves to go to the bathroom and then she returns to Jackie's room, waiting.

My Letter to Jackie
Dear Jackie,
We did our best to find you, my partner and I, along with your dog Mudpuddle and our search dog Valorie. Your mom and dad searched day and night, along with Billy Hale, an NMCLC Investigator, and a lot of good people from your home town. We were able to find enough evidence to put the monster that hurt you away forever. I just want you to know that though we never met you. You're a very lucky and special girl. You have a very special friend waiting for you. Ask God if you can come say good-bye to Mudpuddle? She is pregnant and when she has puppies, this will give her someone to love and hold dear. Jackie, Mudpuddle wanted me to say she loves you and misses you and she just wanted to say GOOD-BYE. Your friends from Search and Rescue, Harry with Search dog Valorie.

This is why Harry and SAR Dog Valorie do what they do. "To bring the kids home so the family can have closure". If you ever wish to assist I.K.9.S.A.R.S. with our efforts contact us at our web site: www.k9sardog.com or, email us at: [email protected]

Old Dog Haven HOME FOUND

PERMANENT Old Dog Haven FOSTER HOME FOUND
(in W. Washington or Portland, OR only)

"Claire Bear" is a sweet little old lady shih tzu. She is a spayed female between 8-10 pounds. She is 13 years old. She's been a lapdog and comforting companion for years. She needs another lap and love. She's not lived with dogs or cats but doesn't mind either; her family says she's great with gentle children, old enough to be respectful of her. She doesn't get much exercise and has some arthritis as you'd expect. She's housebroken, quiet and enjoys human company. She has a heart murmur and has had a corneal ulcer recently; those shih tzu eyes often need extra care and watchfulness, with twice-daily drops or ointments. If you have room on your lap and a quiet home, please ask us about her ASAP.

All vet bills for the life of the dogs we take into our care are paid by Old Dog Haven! This is thanks to donations.

PERMANENT Old Dog Haven FOSTER HOME NEEDED:
(In W. Washington state or Portland Oregon only)

Labradoodle, neutered male who weighs between 25-30 pounds.

This little guy's lifetime owner can no longer care for him and he needs a home ASAP. He hasn't had much vet care recently but no major issues were found a few years ago; he does have a good deal of arthritis and his vision/hearing may be diminishing. He has lived with other dogs and is pretty social with them; he has lived with cats - will chase but not harm, per his owner. He's been fine with young children but as he ages that is too much to expect in a new situation. He's been loved for 13+ years and now needs someone else to love him - soon.

If you are ready to open your heart and home to a senior dog who needs you please read the link below and contact us.

Remember as an Old Dog Haven dog, ALL VET BILLS ARE PAID - thanks to all of you who donate ❤️

Miki is an adorable mixed-breed boy ready to join a home with calm energy. This young senior just celebrated his 9th birthday. Miki weighs 35 pounds and is said to be a chihuahua and german shepherd mix. Miki is ready for a home with someone who has more time for him. He is a loving boy who is described as "the ultimate couch potato".

Miki prefers females to men, especially when meeting new people. Time to settle in and learn trust goes a long way with any dog! His current person tells us he will need a patient and kind adopter who can be around for him. This dear boy needs consistent care and attention to help him thrive.

Not a fan of hyper dogs who will jump on him, Miki can live peacefully with dogs his speed. Miki has lived with cats and while he's excited at first to meet them, we are told he greets them gently. As is common with most mature dogs, Miki prefers older kids who are quiet and more predictable.

Currently, Miki can manage quite a few hours between potty breaks. He is crate trained and will stay in his crate when he's left alone. Of course, when his humans are home he wants to be out of his crate! When there were other dogs in the home, he would lay with them.

A great way to bond with a dog is through daily walks and Miki is up to join you! He loves getting out for up to an hour a day, exploring and sniffing. We are told Miki does well on leash. He does like his space though and doesn't appreciate being in a crowded area such as an elevator or large group of dogs and people. Miki can manage stairs without issue. According to his person, Miki rarely barks!

Miki sounds like an all-around nice, fun dog who is deserving of a committed forever home.

Miki is located in University Place, WA. For contact information please email: [email protected]

This is a courtesy post. Miki is not an Old Dog Haven dog. Old Dog Haven has not assessed this dog for medical issues and will not be responsible for medical care after adoption. We urge prospective adopters to do their own evaluation.
