The Powderhorn Shroomery is dedicated to expanding the availability of local, affordable, nutrient-dense foods. The Powderhorn Shroomery - a DBA of Powderhorn Produce is the first installment of a larger permaculturally-based business model. The goal is to work towards a zero-input system (minus water and electricity). Picture a system where mushrooms are grown on the agricultural waste from a loc

al market garden - the decomposed waste of the mushroom growing process then becoming the soil to feed the market garden. Other inputs will be required for a well-rounded system including chickens, bees, and worms. But currently we're starting with the basics at the decomposition stage of the nutrient cycle. You can't grow plants for a market garden without available nutrients in the soil. So growing mushrooms seems to be the logical starting place. The Powderhorn Shroomery intends to purchase chemical-free agricultural organic waste to feed our gourmet mushrooms, which we will sell to local grocers, CSAs, and restaurants, as well as directly to consumers through online subscription. Our premium mushroom compost will also be available for sale at local garden stores and for direct purchase (pickup or delivery). For mushroom enthusiasts, we will also be selling grow-your-own mushroom kits - fungi are fascinating and we'd love to share the joys of watching them grow!
