Beet pulp can be a game changer for a senior horse or your hard keepers that need some extra weight. Come see us and we will help you find the right feed for your equine friend.

❌ MYTH: Feeding your horse dry beet pulp will cause them to colic. ❌

Some people believe that unsoaked beet pulp swells in the gut and can cause gastric distress or colic, but research says that isn’t true!

✅ The American Association of Equine Practitioners found that when fed dry at less than 45% of the total diet, no negative effects were observed.

Some horses may have dental, digestive, or esophageal conditions that require their feed to be wet down. If your horse has a healthy set of teeth and no other issues, dry pulp is completely safe!

If you do choose to soak, follow these pro-tips to get the best nutritional bang for your buck:

👉 Use twice as much water as beet pulp.
👉 Avoid HOT water as it will “cook” nutrients out of the feed!
👉 Soak in smaller batches. Soaked beet pulp will be good for 24 hours in the summer before it starts to ferment.
