6/25 SCRIM UPDATE and shameless kitten pics.
I spoke with Paul this morning and he is doing a rescue today in Houston. He will head over when finished. We do not have an exact timeline. It all depends on how long it takes for him to compete that rescue. We are all ready to go on our end. I can't wait! Patience is not my strong suit, and these last 57 days has certainly helped me learn some while I sit in my truck waiting for Scrim to make an appearance!

Scrim was seen late last night, but once again evaded capture. He was also seen again this morning on Moss street near the bayou and again by the fairgrounds. He was later seen on the railroad tracks around Navarre. I think that our nightly activity has caused him to move locations and break his routine.

So, tonight we are not organizing/coordinating a rescue. We are going to try to get that neighborhood to feel safe for him again without running from people chasing him. I believe this will help our efforts when Paul gets in town. That being said, if you happen to live in that area or are passing through and see him, please text FiveOneZero.388.0101 or FiveOhFour.231.7866 with location and direction.

And, now to the pictures. This momma cat came to us VERY pregnant and gave birth to these 5 adorable kittens this week! Momma and kittens are doing great...even though her eyes in the picture say otherwise. She is a good momma.

I will keep y'all updated on Scrim with details as I get them. Thanks for your support. Michelle

6/24 SCRIM UPDATE:
It looks like we got everything figured out and the search and rescue company from TX will be coming in sometime this week to help safely capture Scrim!!! In the meantime, we will keep doing what we are doing to hopefully catch him sooner.

I would like to thank everyone that came out last night. It really helped to know where he wasn’t for the first couple of hours and then where he was starting at 1:15! The rescue team lost him around 2:30 when he slipped behind an alley to areas unknown.

We are going to try the same thing tonight with spotters, but with a bigger area since he was sighted the first time outside of where we had people stationed. We also ask that if you go out, you park on a street corner and do not drive around. Since he is very smart and street savvy, we are thinking that the slow driving cars tipped him off to us looking for him and forced him a little North of his usual area.

I want to be really respectful of people’s time, so if you do decide to come out and need to leave early, that is more than OK.

I am quickly learning that I cannot do overnight night Scrim searching and then be a functional human with over 400 other pets in my care during the day. So, tonight Tammy is in charge of the rescue (really, she is every night). I will still be manning the sightings that come into my phone overnight, but you now also have the option of calling Tammy at FiveOneZero.388.0101 since she will be out and I will be home. The sightings will just get to her quicker this way!

We are looking for people to sit at the following corners from 11:30pm to 1:30am to give us the best coverage:
NCF @ Iberville, Canal, Palmyra, Baudin
Telemachus @ Canal, Palmyra, Banks
S. Cortez @ Cleveland, Palmyra
S. Scott , Banks
S. Pierce @ Banks
Carrollton @ Canal, Palmyra, Banks, Baudin

From the bottom on my heart, thank you for giving up your precious time at home to help us bring Scrim home. Michelle

Meet Pippa. Pippa was born into our program after we captured her mom after another city wide hunt for a dog that had eluded capture for a month in Old Metairie! Not long after her mom was captured, she gave birth to a whole slew of pups. The rest of the litter and mom have been adopted, while she still waits for her forever home.
Pippa is a Pry/Anatolian Shep mix, as our best guess, almost 5 months old and is a world class snuggler. She was lucky to find an awesome foster family. They sent us these pics and write up!
"Pippa is a very sweet, affectionate puppy; but it takes a little time to build her trust as she is still a bit scared of a new environment and new people. She has been great with our toddler!
Pippa is starting to enjoy walks on a leash (still learning) but mostly enjoys curling up on the sofa or in a corner of the yard.
She is potty trained but may occasionally have an accident inside if she is scared (door slams, vacuum, etc)."
If you are interested in this gentle pony, please complete the application at www.zeusrescues.org. Thanks! Michelle

6:30am: We had tons of people parked at street corners and others driving around. Sadly, we were not able to capture him. I wall post an update and a new plan once my brain fully wakes up. THANK YOU to everyone who came out.

We finally have sightings!!! Rescue teams onsite! 12:30. Not a single sighting and we have tons of people out here. It is unusual. Maybe he got chased to another neighborhood??? We are concerned by this.

Midnight: he is not out in this area. We are expanding our area to the other side of Banks and the other side of Carrollton. Please feel free to move locations if you are stationary right now!
11:30 pm update. We are on site. We have people stationed on corner and people driving the neighborhood.
Please report any sighting!!! Thanks to everyone for coming out!!!
6/23/24 7:30PM SCRIM UPDATE!
Tonight we are going to try something different. In the attached map, you will see where Scrim is most active from 11:30pm - 1:30 am. We are looking for people to be our spotters on these streets during this time, paying close attention to the circled areas.

It is very important that if you come out to help us tonight that you STAY IN YOUR CAR and watch for Scrim to enter your field of vision. If he does, please text FiveOhFour.231.7865 with your street corner and direction Scrim is traveling. Tammy will be mobile with the net gun and will respond to sightings and get herself in the best possible position to perform a safe net gun capture.

Once again, if you decide to come out, please do not exit your car or in any way let on to Scrim that you are tracking him. He is super smart and super fast and will bolt the minute he thinks someone is on to him.

There are no heroes in rescue. There is only teams of people working together to achieve a safe rescue. If we all work together and follow these simple instructions, tonight could be the night! It will take all of us working together to get this done. Let's do it! Michelle

06/23/2024

6/23/24 SCRIM UPDATE:
We have hit a snag with obtaining one of the signatures requested by the rescuer to come to NOLA to capture Scrim.

Although not legally required, the rescuer will not come from Texas without taking this step of professional courtesy in obtaining that signature. We are working with the parties involved to come to a solution that will allow for the signature needed for the rescuer to come out.

It is heartbreaking to all of us who have been out searching, trapping and tracking Scrim for the last 6 weeks. We were all set to have the rescuer come in this weekend and finally safely capture Scrim, but it didn't work out.

We will continue to do what we have been doing on our end and maybe all the stars will align and we can get him trapped in a yard, under a house (again) or have a successful net gun deployment.

Please keep those sightings coming via text to FiveOhFour.231.7865. Remember: do not chase, follow or call his name. Simply snap a pic (if you can), give me a block number or street corner and direction traveling and we will do the rest. Tammy is typically onsite within 4 minutes.

Thank you to everyone for your support. It means the world to me, especially with this current setback. We are not giving up. I am not giving up.

Michelle

6/22/24 SCRIM UPDATE: We have a rare middle of the day Scrim sighting and are in route. If you are in the area of Palmyra/Clark headed towards Norman C. Francis, please text FiveOhFour.231.7866 with sightings. Do not stop. Do not Chase. Do not call his name. We are trying to locate which house he may be hiding under and don't want to scare him from this neighborhood. Thanks! Wish us luck! Michelle

06/22/2024

Meet Dixon. This 2ish year old bulldog came to us earlier this month after he was found hiding under a Jeep on a busy street. No one has stepped forward to claim him, so we admitted him to our program and began to address his skin issues. Dixon has demodex, which is not contagious and is easily treated with a couple of doses of Bravecto. If untreated, the dog will develop painful skin infections. Since we started medicated baths and Bravecto, we have seen a dramatic improvement in his skin and he is even starting to grow some hair back!

Now that we got the medical out of the way, I would love to speak to his personality. Dixon is one of my favorite rescues right now. He is just downright joyous all the time. His little pigtail never stops wagging, even when another dog walks by him and barks at him. He just wants to make friends with them and can't understand why they don't love him back! He is also great with all humans and the noises he makes while waiting for a treat make me laugh every single time I hear them. His big head, boopable nose and perfect little shoulders complete the perfect compact package!

If you are interested in adding this hunk of love to your home, please complete the application at www.zeusrescues.org. You wont regret it. Michelle

THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO DONATED! We have raised enough money to pay the search and rescue team, along with any vet bills he may incur as a result of him being on the streets for so long! We are currently in the process of getting the proper signatures on the paperwork from the required agencies and hopefully I will have another update soon. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you! Thanks to all of you, we are so close to getting him home! Michelle

SCRIM UPDATE! It’s been 52 bedtimes and I have tried every trick I learned in the last 20+ years of rescue and some I hadn’t even tried before (but I am better for having tried them) and as all of you know, none of them have worked.

We have an entire community working together to capture a 13 pound dog. He has outsmarted each and every one of us (with the exception of 2 Sundays ago when we had him and that person didn’t follow instructions and he escaped. Yes, I am still sore about that one, but will I let it go once Scrim is safe).

Anywho, on to good news: One of the search and rescue teams got back to me and they can come out!!! I hate doing this, but our current budget can’t really afford them, but IMHO, need him. We have tried EVERYTHING in our powers to capture him. I feel that time is of the essence right now to get him before the elements, the coyotes in City Park or a speeding car gets to him before we do.

I am humbly asking that if you are in a position to do so, please donate towards the fee for this company to come out and capture him. You can donate via the button below, www.zeusrescues.org/donate, Venmo , PayPal [email protected].

From the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU. Michelle

Meet Rogue, the adorable "Piti Princess"! Rouge came to us about a month ago, with a belly full of worms that could have easily killed her if she wasn't surrendered to us and was started on dewormer immediately! She was lucky enough to catch the eye of our very best puppy fosters and has been thriving in that foster home ever since. He foster mom sent us these pics and write ups. I don't know about you, but I just want to take a nap snuggled up with Rogue!!!

"At just 9-10 weeks old and weighing 5.5 lbs, this intelligent beauty is fully puppy pad trained and bursting with energy. Rogue is a super-fast learner, already mastering commands like "stop," "no," "go," "come here," and "sit." She's a true Velcro puppy, adoring cuddles, love, and being the ultimate snuggle buddy. She'll fall asleep in your arms in seconds! Rogue would thrive in a home with plenty of people to give her all the attention in the world. She's always eager to tag along on many adventures! When she's not cuddling or exploring, you can find her happily playing with her favorite toys! Rogue can't wait to meet you and shower you with puppy love! "

If you are interested in this little bundle of joy, please complete the application at www.zeusrescues.org. Thanks! Michelle

Guess I am not getting much work done today. Meet Arwen, my office manager of the day (Swingline stapler for size reference). Arwen is the last of our chih puppies. Topping the scale at 2.1 pounds, she packs much personality into that tiny body. If you are interested in adopting this baby, know that she types zero words per minute, takes frequent bathroom breaks, thinks your feet under the desk are the ultimate play toy, sleeps on the job and is scared of the printer. If none of those things matter to you, please complete the application at www.zeusrescues.org. Thanks! Michelle

06/18/2024

Meet Julep, my office manager of the day. This year old scruffy terrier mix found his way to our program after being left at his house when his owners moved. After reaching out to the previous owners, it was discovered that they didn't want him anymore but he remained at the house waiting for them to return. He survived on rotten food left on their porch until someone picked him up and brought him to us.

Julep has been with us a little over a week, we have learned that he is just the sweetest boy and values human contact over treats. He is still a little hand shy and will shrink back if you raise your hands too quickly, but we are working on that with him. He is so eager to please a human that it will not take much to get him to trust fully again. He weighs about 25 pounds, making him the perfect size for travel. He has lots of bouncy energy which would translate well to a house with active kids!

If you are interested in having Julep come and stay with you, please complete the application at www.zeusrescues.org. Thanks! Michelle

6/17: It has been almost 24 hours since we last saw Scrim. He is usually active at night and especially during thunderstorms. If you are out and about, please keep your eyes open. If you see him, text FiveOhFour.231.7865. Thanks.

SCRIM UPDATE: After his adventure on Greenwood yesterday, he returned to his nighttime area of Iberville/Olympia.

I have contacted 2 canine scent search and rescue organizations to see if I can hire them to help locate Scrim when he is hiding under houses. I am anxiously awaiting their replies!

Please keep the sightings coming in as they happen. Tammy is typically onsite in under 4 minutes.

What should you do when you see Scrim? I'm glad you asked. Please read this most amazing Ode to Scrim that was posted on the MidCity neighborhood page and forwarded to me. Amy Collins is the author. Amy, you are amazing. You brought joy tears of joy to me and Tammy's eyes upon reading this. It was the boost we needed to give us the strength to keep up the search. I now have this copy hanging at my desk at the rescue. You rock. (note to self: ask to be admitted to the MidCity group since I spend more time in MidCity than my own neighborhood recently).

Thank you to everyone working together to get him home safely. Michelle

Meet Damon. I can't believe this perfect pup still hasn't found his forever home! His amazing foster family sent these updated pics and bios. You can also follow him on instagram at .

Damon is ready for summer and a furever family! He’s down for all the summer things even if he has to wear a hat and sun glasses!
He’s a small 3 year old chihuahua terrier that wants to be your best friend after a brief warm up period to size you up. Then he’s the happiest little doggo begging you to play fetch with any toy or tennis ball he can find.
He’s also an excellent snuggler and all about the naps. His favorite spot is the back of the sofa until it’s bedtime, then it’s right next to you.
He’s happy to go on walks and outings too. And he’s good with other dogs after a good introduction. He really is a joy with lots of entertainment to give! His most entertaining quirk is his love for sniffing shoes. He won’t chew them or steal them, but he will try to put his whole head in there the moment those shoes come off your feet.
He’s been neutered, is up to date on his shots, and heartworm negative. He would love to find his furever home!

If interested in Damon, please complete the online application at www.zeusrescues.org. Thanks! Michelle

6/16 2:21pm. SCRIM UPDATE: Canal to Greenwood then unknown. More than likely headed to City Park to hide from the weather.

06/16/2024

6/16 12:18pm Telemachus at Palmyra. 12:20pm turned on to Cleveland from Palmyra and headed Downtown. Maybe in bushes or under a house. Keep your eyes open and text updates. He is scared of thunderstorms and starts running. THANK YOU!!!!

6/15 Scrim update: We put trail cameras up around his normal stomping grounds to aid in tracking his movements. There was no evidence of him last night, until 11:37pm. I got a text that he was at Bienville at N. Rocheblave. I wouldn’t have believed that he travelled that far had I not seen the video of him trotting along. Tammy was out there quickly but couldn’t find him. I spent the rest of the sleepless night trying to figure out where he could be in this new neighborhood.

6/16 5:54am: Scrim was back in his old neighborhood. He crossed Banks at S. Genois and was standing on the corner of S. Genois and Palmyra. The very observant sighter said that he must have slept under a house on the Tulane side of Banks and was just getting up given his casual stroll across Banks.

If you live on that block, have a ring camera and a little time, please check to see if he is sleeping under your house. As any of you who have been following the Scrim saga, you know catching him while he is on the run is impossible. If we can surround him under a house again, we have a really good chance of ending his time on the streets!

Thank you so much for putting up with the daily posts about his whereabouts and helping us getting him home safely. I really appreciate it. Michelle

Friday's office managers were Sasquatch and Daniel Vaniel Kaniel. Look at the difference 5 weeks of love, food and meds can do to change the life of a pet! You may remember that Sasquatch and Daniel came to us after being picked up around the area that the tornado in Slidell impacted. They were anemic, covered in fleas, full of worm,s had skin infections and were dangerously thin. Now, they are thriving and enjoy going on walks with our dog walking volunteer krewe.

Sass and Dan are looking for their forever or foster home right now. While some would consider them bonded, they do enjoy their time apart and have to be fed separately (just like. me and my brother). They are about 4 years old and will be neutered as soon as Dr. Joe medically clears them. If you are interested, please complete the online application at www.zeusrescues.org. Thanks! Michelle

6/15: I'd to put something out there. If you live on Baudin, Murat, Telemachus, or any street in that area and have a Ring, Nest or other home security camera, please keep an eye on your alerts from dusk to 11:00pm. This is when and where he is most active. Tammy lost him on Cleveland and Telemachus last night when he turned the corner and hid under a house. I was just thinking that if we had more 'eyes' on him in addition to the people gridding the neighborhood, we might get a better idea of where he is sleeping, which would make it easier to capture him! Just a thought. If you see something on your camera, please text FiveOhFour.231.7865 to let us know! THANK YOU. Michelle

06/14/2024

Meet Piety. I got to spend some time behind the desk at our Freret location and chose this sweet boy to be my office manager for the day. Piety is a 6 - 7 month old lab/pony mix that was left abandoned in a house with his 2 siblings in the lower French Quarter back in early April. His 2 siblings were adopted, but Piety remains looking for his home.

Piety is a gentle giant who LOVES to play with other dogs. He was so patient with Scooby as my jealous dog kept stealing all the bones and toys I gave them. Piety would be a great playmate for your existing dog or child that needs a friend that needs someone to tell all their secrets to!

Piety is cat curious and will only bark when alerted to something that isn't right. He is calm when you want him to be and joyous when he plays. Since he is a large breed black dog, his chances of being adopted are slim, but I am hoping the right family is out there and will see this post and fall in love!

If you are interested in fostering/adopting his loving pup, please complete the application at www.zeusrescues.org. Thanks! Michelle

Under my desk yesterday were these 2 pint sized characters. Their names are Bruce and Gizmo, but I renamed them Joe Pesci and Al Pacino for the day. This 2 tiny warriors think they are Great Dane sized and had lots to say to all the dogs that passed in front of them.

They eventually stopped hurling insults at the dogs who passed by and Bruce decided to do an extensive cleaning of his male bits while Gizmo rounded up and hoarded all the toys on his bed. These 2 are not bonded, but can easily terrorize your home together or apart. Gizmo is 8 years old and Bruce (of GiveNolaDay fame) is around 3.

Both would do best in homes without young children and with people that respect their Napoleonic rule of their house. If interested, please complete the application at www.zeusrescues.org. Thanks! Michelle

UPDATE: We drove around and walked the levee and didn't see him. We will put up fliers tomorrow. If you live in the neighborhood, please consider putting out a bowl of water for him. I am worried about his hydration with all his running in this heat. Thank you to everyone who came out and drove around and to everyone who sent me this Nextdoor post!!!! We are over the moon excited with this possible new sighting. Michelle POSSIBLE SCRIM SIGHTING 45 MINUTES AGO: LAKEVIEW. I was alerted to a post on Nextdoor of a possible Scrim sighting 45 minutes ago. Tammy called and in speaking to the person, determined it is more than likely Scrim. The person said he was exhausted and only let their little girl approach him. After he rested, he took off again. Please, if you are in the neighborhood of Bellaire and W Harrison, be on the look out for Scrim and text/call me at FiveOhFour.231.7865. If he shows up on your ring doorbell or surveillance cameras outside, that would be awesome to know too! I hope this is him and that he is OK. Michelle

Next up in the parade of adoptables who spent the day under my desk(s): ButterBall. The aptly named 10 year old Maltese/Shih Tzu mix recently found himself at a local shelter with another dog when their owner couldn't care for them anymore. His friend went on a home visit on Monday and I figured he needed a little extra love, so he was my office dog. In fact, ButterBall was so well behaved that he got to come home with me and spend the night at my house!

I have learned that he is blind in one eye, selectively deaf, spunky, used to eating table scrapes, great on a leash, passed the ultimate dog test of submission with my asscats, a bed hog, a master at rearranging anything he deems as a bed to achieve the utmost comfort, house trained, and makes noises I have never heard before when he wants to be picked up.

If you are interested in giving this old man the rest of the life that he is used to and deserves, please complete the application at www.zeusrescues.org. Thanks! Michelle

06/12/2024

It's been over 48 hours since we have had a Scrim sighting. Every time I get a text or call, I get excited that it will be a new Scrim sighting, but it hasn't happened.

I am asking you to share this post far and wide around Nola. He has moved locations and we can't get him back without your help. The more eyes we have on the street reporting his location, the better chance we have of finding him. I am worried that with the temperatures rising, he is having a hard time finding a place to keep cool. Hopefully he found another quiet house to hide under during the hottest parts of the day. He is typically active from 5 - 6 am and 11:30pm - 1:00am.

I realize that I am rambling, but I can't stop thinking about him and how scared he must be tonight in yet another new neighborhood, trying to survive. Tammy is out again tonight, as she is every night, driving around Mid-City hoping to spot him.

So, please spread the word to your neighbors, crosspost, keep an eye out while driving around, send Scrim your good karma and text FiveOhFour.231.7865 with any sightings. I truly believe that together we can get him home.

Michelle

I'm starting a new series called 'whose under my desk today'. The next phase of our renovations actually puts a desk for me in the rescue building and I since I seem to be unable to work with a dog or cat on or under my desk, I thought I would start highlighting my officemates each day and give y'all a little insight into their personalities:)

Meet Lucky. This 5 year old little Shih Tzu mix came to us back in 2021 from a local shelter. He was adopted out but returned (due to no fault of his own) back in April and is looking for his new forever home. Lucky isn't the biggest fan of kids and tons of strangers coming in his area, which makes him perfect older couple or single person, that doesn't mind the smell of farts and likes to watch a small dog dance for their treats.

Yesterday, Lucky greeted the ZP team with wags and wiggles and then greeted passing dogs and visitors with barks. I now have a treat bowl on my desk so that when he sits instead of barking, he gets a treat. (Note to self: get myself. a treat bowl for when I do what I am asked.)

Lucky also spent most of the day rubbing his butt on my foot when I crossed my legs, which only served to let loose some more farts. Good times.
