Pon in MS – Adopted!

-

Male
10 Years Old
13 Pounds
Needs work on housetraining
Leash Trained
Crate Trained
Playful, affectionate and gentle

-

Ten-year-old Pon is an easy-going boy who quickly settled into his foster home. His foster family describes him as playful and affectionate with a sweet and gentle personality. Though he is initially shy with strangers, he warms up quickly.

Pon enjoys just about anything on the agenda. He likes going on walks but is also very happy spending time in a fenced yard or going for a car ride. He likes to play with other dogs or with people and loves squeaky toys. He quite enjoys just hanging out on the sofa with his people.

Pon gets along well with the dogs he’s met in foster care and is comfortable with men, women and children over the age of 10. He hasn’t had experience with younger children while in foster care, and we do not know how he will be around cats.

Pon can be vocal at times, so apartment life is not recommended for him.

He is reportedly fearful of storms and will hide, but there haven’t been any bad storms while in foster care so the behavior has not been observed.

Pon might be just the guy to round out your family.

Pon is being fostered in Mississippi.

Kerry in CA – Adopted

-

Male
Two years old
10.6 pounds
Crate trained
House trained
Needs work on leash training

Kerry is a young but sweet and gentle soul. He enjoys being around people, especially his person. Despite his docile demeanor, Kerry can be very playful at times.

Kerry enjoys his walks. He’s not leash trained, but he’s very easy to walk on a leash. He likes to meander and goes slowly - definitely a “stop and smell the roses” kind of guy. Kerry also loves meeting other dogs on his walks.

Kerry does not enjoy travel at all. He gets very nauseated, throws up and drools excessively while in the car. He needs a home where he is not expected to travel much.

Kerry gets along with men, women and other dogs.

We are not sure how he will react to children or cats as he has not been exposed to them while in our care.

Kerry is currently being fostered in California.

UPDATE: ADOPTED

Puppy in NY

-

Male
6 years
11 pounds
House trained and leash trained
** Needs another dog

Photogenic Puppy is a happy and playful guy who enjoys spending time with his people as well as the other dogs in his foster home. He’s quite fond of his foster siblings and relies on them for companionship when his people are not available to spend time with him.

Puppy also gets along with cats.

We have not seen him interact with children while in foster care.

Puppy is moderately active. He enjoys his walks and likes exploring the environment, both inside and out. He also likes playing with toys.

If you’re a family on the go, Puppy is a happy traveler and would like going along for the ride.

Currently, Puppy seems sensitive to unexpected noises. We’re not sure if this is an aspect of his adjustment to his new environment or if this is part of his personality. Overall, he is adjusting well to his foster home. He seems a little anxious about being left alone as well as when being bathed or groomed.

Puppy is house trained and leash trained and is ready to join the family fortunate enough to adopt him.

Puppy is being fostered in New York State.

Teddy in MS

-

Male
4 years old
12 pounds
House, leash and crate trained

If you are looking for a sweet, lovable, dare we say perfect little pup - then search no further! Teddy is your guy.

A true snuggle bug, Teddy just wants to be with you and loves to crawl into your lap. When not in your lap, Teddy is happy to play with toys, and he loves them!

Teddy gets along with everyone: adults, children and other dogs.

He is new to our care and hasn't been exposed to cats, so we are unsure how he would react to a feline friend in the household.

He isn't sure of outside noises, so he will bark on occasion if he hears something unknown. As we get to know more about little Teddy's personality, we will update this information.

Teddy is currently being fostered in Mississippi.

Coco in GA

-

Coco Male 1 year old
14 lbs.
Personality qualities: playful and energetic
Needs a fenced yard and a confident dog buddy
Extremely active dog who needs professional training

-

Coco is a young energetic Havanese looking for his forever home that would help him get regular exercise.

Foster home is recommending a family that would work with a dog trainer.

He may do best with someone who is consistently at home as he can be a destructive chewer.

Coco is a smart Havanese and at this time is not recommended for a family with children as he can play rough and be mouthy.

He loves attention but can be very reactive with barking and jumping.

He does sleep well in his crate!

He has bolted through a door, so he needs someone to work with manners and to address some of his energetic behaviors.

With the right home and consistent love/training we just know this intelligent boy will learn to channel his energy and be his best self.

Coco is currently in foster care in Georgia.

I tried hard not to foster him, knowing I would be in trouble as soon as he arrived! And when my foster home fell through, and he came to my house, I was instantly in love! I can't explain it - I knew he would stay with me. I have fostered quite a few dogs this year, and he's the only one I felt that way about from the get-go. I tried hard to talk myself out of it because I already had 5 dogs, plus Scrappy, the forever foster. But I did not want to look at the applications for him and thought, "I need to make a decision!" But the heart wants what the heart wants. He fits right in with the other dogs and is happy, playful, and friendly. He's getting more confident with being apart from me and will wander around in the backyard occasionally. He gets SO excited for treats and has this demanding whine he uses when he thinks he hasn't gotten his share! He is easygoing and amenable to almost anything. He loves to play fetch and tug-of-war with the tiny little stuffed toys he prefers more than any other. I think of him as a shining little soul, and I love him to pieces!

11/26/2023

Our HRI-adopted dog, Grizzby, seamlessly integrated into our family, finding his place alongside our other two Havanese companions, Finley and Oakley. Grizzby's arrival brought an additional layer of joy to our home, completing the picture of our tight-knit canine crew. Observing these three "siblings" engage in playful antics throughout the day feels like tuning in to a heartwarming, fun-filled, furry sitcom.

Since joining our family in June, Grizzby has proven to be a quick adapter, effortlessly traveling between the summer landscapes of Minnesota and winter retreats to the sun-soaked paradise of Palm Springs. His jet-setting, tail-wagging attitude reflects his readiness for adventure.

Grizzby loves watching the golfers in Palm Springs, taking long walks, and especially playing with other dogs. His friendly nature sets him apart as one of our most amiable dogs. During our walks, we're frequently approached by people who affectionately dub our trio "the triplets" and often inquire whether Grizzby and Finley were part of the same litter, given their striking resemblance.

We are particularly grateful to Grizzby's previous loving owners and HRI for entrusting us with this special dog. Their trust and Grizzby's happy-go-lucky personality have solidified his place as a cherished family member. Grizzby enhances our lives and fosters a heartwarming bond with his big brother Finley and big sister Oakley that fills our home with warmth and love.

From the day we saw her, we were in love and after seeing her story, we just wanted her to know lots of love from her people. Luna is the perfect mix of sweet and sassy and we love her so much! We didn't know how she would do with potty training after all of her issues in her first year of life and it took a while but she's got it down now! We have had her for about 10 months now and can't imagine life without this little sassy girl!

Molly instantly embraced our family and made herself right at home in Fort Wayne! It’s as if she’s been with us forever! She quickly bonded with our other dog, Gracie- who was also a Havanese rescue. Molly has taken on the role of big sister to our shy little Gracie. It’s been wonderful for both of them! Molly loves going for walks, car rides, boat rides, and playing with her toys. She has a big personality, for sure! We absolutely love our Molly!

Little Miss Gracie is a sweet pup. She is on the timid side, but once she gets to know and trust you, she will get snuggly with you.

Gracie is a good sleeper and has a great appetite. Meal time is a favorite, and she manages quite well even though she only has six teeth.

Gracie loves to be up on the furniture. She does not do the stairs but will get up on a stool or doggy steps.

Gracie does well with cats and other dogs, men and women, but we are not sure how she would do with children.

Gracie will need frequent trips outside to help her succeed in being housebroken. P*e pads are helpful in the meantime.

Gracie is being fostered in Florida.

We say Diego is the dog we never knew we needed. He came into our lives when we were not looking for another pup. We started this journey as a transport ride for Diego, which then turned into fostering Diego, which then came into loving Diego. He has fit into our family, our pack, so easily, and he’s been a blessing to all of us.

Chico in NM

-

Male
10 years old
13 pounds
Crate-Trained
Needs Work On House Training

-

Chico is a gentle and affectionate dog. Eager to please and be loved, he fits into a home seamlessly.

Chico enjoys an adventure - whether out for a walk or a drive in the car. Looking out the window from his car seat is such fun!

Chico is also fond of napping at your feet. A tummy rub (or two) and a few kisses would complete his perfect day.

Chico does well with other dogs but has not been around cats while in our care.

Children are an unknown, too. Chico can be a little timid so we suspect older, considerate children are probably the best fit for this boy.

Chico needs a bit of work on housetraining, but with patience and consistency, we think he will master this task and be the best pup.

Chico is currently being fostered in New Mexico.

11/21/2023

We've just passed the 6-week mark with Raider (now Rider), and things are starting to settle. After encouraging us and answering our endless questions, HRI foster Stacy and her partner drove him nearly 500 miles to bring him to live with us. He was described as the easiest foster they had to date. In less than 6 months, Hot Ticket to Ride has changed homes twice, had several teeth pulled, had a heart murmur diagnosed, gone through a couple cancer surgeries, gained some weight back, and adapted to not being the only dog for the first time in his 13 years. Who says an old dog can't learn new tricks? He's somewhat hard of hearing, so we have been working out some hand signals to accompany commands, and we've delighted in his swan dives off the couch when playing fetch. He has some quirks, like he loves to check on whoever is in the shower, prefers to sleep touching some part of Kevin, and seems to have the longest tongue possible. Stacy warned us that he was quick, especially around food. On night two, I was eating a baked potato, and he sidled up, and then the next thing I knew, he had a sour cream mustache that quickly disappeared. Lesson learned! He loves meal times and daily walks nearly as much as his squeaky duck. He sounds like a squeaky duck when he barks like a sad cat when he can hear us outside. What started as an "oh, our dogs are so bonded, what will we do when one passes" project for me looking at Havanese and other rescue websites has turned into a more chaotic home life, especially when the doorbell rings, but we wouldn't have it any other way. Rider has brought us so much joy and amusement, and we hope he lives out the rest of his days feeling loved.

Rosie is pure joy and a great reminder of what a gift a Havanese can be. Before adopting Rosie, we had Juku and Miso (both Havanese), who were with us for many years. They passed from old age. Along with them, we took in Kiki, a Labradoodle who is now 5 years old. She was very close to them and had missed her friends over the last year. We had put a ton of thought into what kind of dog would be a good match for Kiki, then sweet Rosie came up. Watching their relationship grow has been such a joy. They are the best of friends. Rosie is always the first in line for cuddles, treats, and love but looks to have Kiki right at her side. Rosie and Kiki love to wrestle, run, play, and sleep next to each other. Initially, we were apprehensive about adopting, but Rosie has turned everything around. She is just perfect in our eyes! As hard as it must be to turn over a pet, it is wonderful that Havanese Rescue is there to help find loving homes for these special babies. We think about Rosie's changes over the last six months. Without Havanese Rescue, this transition could have been much more difficult. Rosie is silly, resilient, and will always be loved. We are forever grateful that we were able to adopt this wonderful girl!
