We celebrated a big landmark this week at Northampton Vet, with Dr Kate DeLisle’s 10th anniversary as an NVC Vet!

Kate was a veterinary assistant with us prior to graduating with her DVM, and she returned to grow into one of the most influential people in our veterinary community. Dr DeLisle is a huge part of who we are at NVC, and we are so blessed to have her expertise and caring kindness to share with all of you!

Congratulations, Dr Kate! We love you!

In Dolly We Trust!

Dolly, one of our sweet puppy patients, came to see us during our 9 to 5 😉 We couldn’t resist taking her photo with our Dolly Parton wall decor when she came back to the treatment room! Her beauty is beyond compare, with flaming locks of auburn hair!

Thanks for bringing a smile to our faces, Dolly! We can’t wait to watch you grow! 🎤🤠🐾

Dawn, the Animal Control Officer for the greater Northampton area, was kind enough to take the time out of her busy animal-wrangling schedule to come by NVC yesterday for an educational workshop!

We were able to speak with the expert on all things animal welfare, cruelty laws, and Rabies protocols. Dawn even brought along Josephine, a California King Snake, for us to cuddle during our meeting!

A critical part of our everyday life here at NVC is staying the most up to date on local, state, and federal laws and regulations regarding animal care. Opportunities (like this one!) that allow our staff to ask questions and work through different real-life scenarios permits us to further understand the role Animal Control plays in our community and how we, as a veterinary practice, may assist them. We really are just one big team, striving to make the lives of both companion and wild animals better every single day.

Dawn — you are the coolest human we know! It is a privilege to work alongside you and your department to aid animals in need! THANK YOU for stopping by and spending time with us!! 😍🐍🐾👮🏻

This week is full of love at Northampton Vet because it’s Veterinary Assistant Appreciation week! We are lucky to have the most amazing, caring and driven group of people helping to assist our doctors and technicians. Historically, some of our assistants train up to working as technicians, some to management, and others head off to veterinary school. But wherever this particular group ends up, they are sure to succeed in anything they set their mind to achieve. We want to thank each and every one of these hardworking team mates for giving their all to us, and to you and your pets. We are truly blessed to have them!

Little Rossie came in for her spay a few weeks back, and was quickly hired by Savy as part of the reception team. It's not every day our docs allow a patient to recover from surgery in an open drawer in the reception desk, but this little rascal made the cut.

Would you believe us if we told you that “Squirrel”, one of our fabulous feline patients, was 1.5 years older than Vet Assistant Lexi pictured here?! Well, it’s true! Miss Squirrel is a stunning (almost) 22 year old kitty. We are truly honored to care for her! 🐈🐾🤎

There have been loads of seminars across the state this month led by volunteer veterinarians to prep first responders in basic life support of police K9s injured in the line of duty. Dr Jess Dias of NVC teamed up again with Dr Jennifer York of the tech program at HCC and Sergeant Dave Stucenski of the Mass State Police to help Northampton Fire and Rescue get their team ready to manage the worst case scenarios for their working dogs.

Also pictured, K9 Douglas, was the goodest boy and loved all the cuddles (palpating for femoral pulse and intramuscular injections). He was not a fan of our stuffed dog, Alice. He reports she was suspicious and likely up to no good.

Nero’s law was instituted in 2022 in honor of K9 Nero, who was critically injured in 2018 at the same time his partner, Yarmouth Sergeant Sean Gannon, was killed. At the time, state law didn't allow for emergency personnel to assist in lifesaving measures for canine partners. This legislature ensures that all EMT‘s and firefighters get 3 hours of training in basic life support for police dogs needing immediate care.

Our very large, very sweet friend, Moose, came to visit last week. This gentle giant is a Mastiff, and vastly outweighs any of these caretakers that are so excited to see him. Moose always draws and crowd of fans when he’s here. He was happy to appease us all and made sure everyone the most giant kisses ever in time for Valentine’s Day.

We recently celebrated two of our most dedicated and loved employees, Beverly and Jennifer. Or more accurately, Auntie Bev and Mama Jen. They have been with the Northampton Veterinary Clinic for 40 years! They started working on the same day, making up a handful of support staff for one doctor. Today, these strong and intelligent women are truly the matriarchs of our little family. We know how lucky we are to have them as role models for our team, and caregivers to you and your pets. We hope you do too!
