Skyward Rooftop Farms

I will detail my journey around creating this business with the support of my community. I will put people to work from the community.

The idea for this urban rooftop farm, internet cafe and community meeting space came to me in my MBA program at Dominican University. I will create a fully functioning produce farm on a rooftop in downtown Oakland. The farm will host seating all around the structurally sound roof, with local artisans and vendors selling their wares. Additionally, we will host sunrise morning yoga, cooking classes

and contest, events partnering with sustainable wineries and breweries, and after school programs for kids to give them something healthy to do. We intend to be the community meeting space for families, kids, and business. Our goal is to use solar panels, water catchment, and grey water from the building and possibly fog catches as well. Rooftop farms can reduce the heat from buildings (some of the worst offenders of climate change and urban heat island effect) and can have significant reduction in climate change.
