A huge congratulations to three of the event riders I coach in dressage. All three got first place in their division at their last show.
At the last POP show Amalia Heupel received a first place on her pony, Zipper, in a very competitive Beginner Novice class. At the same show Katie Emerson also got first on her four-year-old Fin, in the Starter Level division, (pictured cantering here, Lisa Madren photo credit), her dressage score was an impressive 29.9.
Chase Hutchings is pictured with his gray mount Finn, at the Majestic Oaks rated show where his dressage score was a 24.7--WOW- and he held onto that score throughout his cross county and stadium jumping to win his division. Chase has just recently moved up to the Novice level.
These three are on fire!!!

In search of a dressage horse for an off-site lease. My client is retiring her 20-year-old ½ draft to a wonderful facility where he will live out his remaining years in comfort and peace. She is a confirmed 2nd level rider with a great seat, kind hands, and is organized with her body to perform third level lateral work. She has done flying lead changes on other horses but not on her own. It is time for her to move to the next level, but she is not yet ready to go horse shopping.
She would prefer a horse under 16.2, emphasize more on broad then tall. A horse with a show record confirmed through at least 3rd level and schooling higher. No overly sensitive or spooky horses either at home or off property. No problem if the horse needs maintenance she is extremely proactive in making sure her mount gets the body work and supplements they need. Gelding is probably best but certainly will not discount a mare.
The horse would live at Nosara Farms in Odessa Fl. Website is Nosarafarms.com Client takes a couple lessons a week and can adjust that amount to suit what she and the horse need. The client is open to different lease options.
Please call the number on the website and I will respond quickly and forward the possible candidates to my client.
Thank you very much for your input,
Jane Whitehurst

Looking for a farm in Florida that is not a swamp? A farm with cool stalls? A farm that has lots of places to ride on the premises and thousands of acres of trails that you can walk to. A farm where the people are nice, and the environment is positive?
Nosara Farms in Odessa Florida has openings for two boarders in May. We are a dressage-based barn and lessons/training are required. Please go to Nosarafarms.com and view the many pictures of our facility, along with a price list, and a detailed description of our daily schedule for the horses.
Jane Whitehurst is the owner/trainer/manager of Nosara Farms. She has been teaching and training regularly since the 80’s. Philosophies that Jane lives by:
1. Groundwork is important, horses must have good manners and be respectful towards the handler.
2. Every second you are with your horse you are teaching him something. Make sure it’s what you want him to learn.
3. Riding dressage means staying present, neutral in your emotions, communicating with the horse, and teaching your horse to effectively use their body to carry the rider.
4. The rider must focus on their own body mechanics before they are able to positively influence the horse under the saddle.
All of Jane’s students know that their position is paramount for making their horses move better. When the student takes the time to focus on the basics, (and not just moving up the levels), their journey goes smoother, and they have a better partnership with their horse.
Horses in Jane’s program are ridden correctly. Back to front with the emphasis on always getting the neck out and lifting with their core to achieve a soft back. This can almost always be achieved without harsh bits or tie devices.
Dressage movements are met to help influence the horse’s movements, and they should be orchestrated correctly. They are in each test for a reason and that is what the student should comprehend even before beginning the exercise. The why’s should be asked often because they help paint the whole picture.
Jane is comfortable with teaching all the levels of dressage and carries the same passion when teaching beginners as when teaching an advanced rider how to do tempis.

Nosara Farms has two openings for full board. Please go to website for more information on pricing and the care we offer. Our snowbirds are heading back to the North, and we can take horses in as soon as anyone needs. We are a dressage-based barn. Lessons/training are required; therefore, we cannot accommodate retired or unsound horses. We have a great group of people in a very friendly, supportive environment.

Our barn is one of the cooler barns around without being air conditioned. Our property drains quickly so there are never standing puddles. It is the perfect place for Florida summers.

Please contact Jane Whitehurst at 727-254-3554. I prefer a phone call over a text or messenger. I am prompt in returning calls. Thank you.

This is how we do a jump chute at Nosara farms. Red neck style. We threw everything out there except lounge chairs. For the most part the girls came back after their jumping to get a treat. 5 year old dressage bred horse and a 3 year old eventing bred horse. I think you can see the difference. In the comment section has the other jumping

We’ve all heard the instructions: Sit back, stay up, lift your chest. We all know following those commands improves our balance, improves how our horses work underneath us, and helps us stay on should things go awry. That said, many of us are ridi...

🌟Grant Recipient Spotlight: Verne Batchelder Instructor Fund🌟

Instructor Jane Whitehurst, Odessa, FL, has been busy with her horse, Romeo, after receiving a grant from TDF's Verne Batchelder Instructor Fund in 2020. Jane has been using her grant funding to train with Jill Hardt.

Here is an excerpt from Jane's blog about her training:
"There is no doubting that correct dressage training builds better bodies. He (Romeo) is appropriately muscled and has almost lost his thick under the neck. He is even taller. His eye has a little gleam to it, and he is way more affectionate. These are signs I am proud of; they are as important to me as a correct half pass. A partnership with your horse means they can communicate with you and express their opinions. Romeo has gone from being aloof and introverted to have quite the personality. He seems happy."

You can follow along with Jane and read more on her blog here: http://www.nosarafarms.com/training-and-lessons/training-blog/

The Verne Batchelder Instructor fund is due September 10 and provides an annual grant of up to $2,500 to a professional instructor from USDF Regions 1, 3, or 8 for continuing education and training with a trainer with whom they have an established relationship.
