Hello All-There was plenty of commotion with equipment & mowers, which means starting some spring clean up around the farm. Teddy & the sheep were happy for a busy day of watching & some new visitors to meet. The girls have been back to laying regularly for awhile now-a true sign that spring has finally arrived.

Mike & I reminisced today after working on the farm that at the end of this month will be 6yrs since we uncovered the barn/farm from all of the vegetation, blackberry sticker bushes that were growing out of control on both the barn & farm house. People told us to tear the barn & house down & rebuild. We refurbished instead. 5 yrs since planting the lavender it’s going strong-we love our little farm

Welp the girls are still with us. I have to say they are super sweet, always ready to greet us & busy “mowing” between the hops & front field which is helpful.

What a beautiful spring day on the farm. These Chicks (ages 2-4 weeks) are the newest generation. Splash, Whites, Paints & Blue Silkies.

“Teddy” or “Ted” the Alpaca has come to the Farm. He is getting acquainted, wandering & grazing the fields. Hen house needs protecting-He will help watch over our hens & ewes from coyotes & fingers crossed, maybe even that pesky hawk.

Prepping for the upcoming Harvest Festival presented by Purtteman Farms. October 22-24th & October 29-31st 11:00-6:00pm
Check out all the pumpkins, gourds, the local vendors, food & snacks, expresso & Donuts, kettle corn and even roasted corn. New this year is a scavenger hunt & petting zoo (fee applies for these new additions). Lots of fun for all & something for everyone!!

Fall is in the air as summer is coming to an end at the farm. A couple of the hop rows were picked and are headed to the brewery. Thanks to all for the extra hands that helped pick. It was definitely busy last week. Oh & watch for dates to be announced soon for the 2nd annual Purtteman Farms Pumpkin Patch Harvest Festival in October.

Spring has sprung and been in full force as the Cider Apples start to bloom. Next up, some rain this weekend for a thirsty farm!

A glimpse of the farm in February...we go from no snow to all of a sudden lots of snow! Visiting Hazel, Cleopatra, and Black Raddish, who appreciate a visit. Thanks to farmer Jen and these adorable Icelandic sheep. Chickens also love the one on one attention ☺️ & round two of another storm and more snow coming.

This is a new invention for us at the farm this season and it sure speeds up the process of picking all of the hops off of the vines. Farmer John had a great idea and it is a hit.

The Lavender & the Hops are loving our NW spring of clouds, sun, rain, & wind a mix of everything this weekend. We are ready for summer-can’t wait!

Our Bee Hive survived the winter and is very busy with all of the pollen in the last couple of weeks. We have a beekeeper joining us on the farm this year with an additional hive. We will be taking in all the tips we can from him. Looking forward to some fresh honey in the coming months.

Family day on the Farm on this Palm Sunday-staying home gives lots of opportunity to catch up on spring chores around the farm. Chickens have fresh grass and the fresh eggs keep coming. Maybe a new chick or two for Easter?

Newport Hops were pulled, picked and sold, over 100lbs worth-it was a brats, beer, apple press & cider kind of day....thank you to all who came and helped!

Hops are ready...come on by this Saturday as we will be open for those who would like to pick your own fresh bine. Whether it’s for steeping, decorating or for the home brewer we have fresh hops available. If you can’t make it Saturday message us and we’ll try to accommodate.
