Happy Assistant Week

🐾 Ever wondered what happens behind the scenes during a veterinary emergency? 🐾🚨

When an animal is in urgent need of care, our incredible veterinary assistants step up to make a world of difference. Here’s a glimpse into their crucial role:

Rapid Assessment: They quickly assess the situation, gathering vital information from pet owners to help prioritize treatment.

Immediate Care: From administering first aid and stabilizing the patient to preparing medications and equipment, they’re on the front lines of emergency care.

Coordinated Efforts: They work closely with veterinarians and other staff to ensure every step of the treatment process is smooth and efficient.

Compassion and Support: Beyond the medical tasks, they offer emotional support to worried pet owners, providing reassurance and guidance during stressful times.

Preparedness: Veterinary assistants are trained to handle a wide range of emergencies, from trauma and poisoning to sudden illnesses.

Their dedication and skill make a huge impact, often saving lives and ensuring that our furry friends get the best care when they need it most. Next time you see a veterinary assistant, give them a shoutout for their hard work and commitment! 💙👏

Cats who stop eating for any reason, including medical issues, stress, or inability to access their food, can develop a condition called hepatic lipidosis—or fatty liver. Once the liver stops working correctly, the cat feels even worse. Check out our latest blog post to learn why you should never let your cat go without food, and how our team diagnoses and manages fatty liver in felines.

It's National Poinsettia Day

There is a misconception about poinsettias being "highly poisonous" to dogs and cats.

THIS IS NOT TRUE!

This is a very exaggerated thought. According to the Pet Poison Helpline, poinsettias are only mildly toxic to dogs and cats. Unless your pet eats a very large amount of the plant, your pet will only have mild drooling and vomiting, and very rarely diarrhea. It is also very rare for pets to get skin and/or eye irritation from poinsettias as well.

Due to their very low toxicity level, most of the time no medical intervention is required if your pet eats part of a poinsettia plant unless the symptoms are severe and persistent.

So if you like poinsettia plants during the holidays, now you can rest assured that they are not poisonous to your dog or cat.
