Hi everyone! My name is Rascal and am 9 months old. Let me tell you a little about myself. I love to show gentle affection and appreciation of my human friends by rubbing against their legs and occasionally playing with their feet. I am good with other cats and respectful towards them. I would make a great addition to any family and also a great companion for another feline. I'm ready to be adopted; neutered and UTD on shots. All you need to do is complete the online application; www.lovar.org or if you would like to foster to adopt, please complete the application online, www.saferlifeline.org
I'm so excited to meet you!
Rascal❤️❤️❤️

This is the moment that the LOVAR family has been waiting to announce. Penny has finally been ADOPTED and has completed her one week trial with her new humans. This match was truly made in heaven. Penny is now living in Benson with her newly retired family. This wonderful couple, have only had bull terriers in their life. How perfect is that? She finally has a place of her own to live out her senior years and be their "one and only". She has so much space to run and play and enjoy her new life.

SPECIAL NOTE FROM OUR DIRECTOR:

LOVAR would like to thank the team at PetCo for welcoming her each week, SaddleBrooke Pet Rescue Network and The Grey Muzzle Organization for their support with her medical needs for the last 1.5 years also The Grey Muzzle for featuring her and adopt-a pet.
Thank you to all our supporters who have shared and supported her in our care - and especially her friends at team LOVAR who volunteer their time and talents every week posting, sharing and caring to help these long timer special needs dogs and cats find their special person

The photo collage of Penny is of her many costumes and fun times the past 1.5 years as well of one with her new owner and with me (Carole) the day I was saying goodbye. This was a very bittersweet day for us all. We'll miss you Penny. Happy Tails🐈‍⬛🐕‍🦺🥰

This post is a follow up from the other day regarding children and animals in locked cars with windows closed in the heat. Below is what a person can do to help children and pets suffering. Just a reminder that before you take any action you MUST notify the police and any emergency responders.

In the context of children or pets suffering in hot cars, Arizona’s good Samaritan Law is covered in Arizona Revised Statute 12-558.02. The law states:
• A. A person who uses reasonable force to enter a locked and unattended motor vehicle to remove a minor or confined domestic animal is not liable for any damages in a civil action if all of the following apply:
o 1. The person has a good faith belief that the minor or confined domestic animal is in imminent danger of suffering physical injury or death unless the minor or domestic animal is removed from the motor vehicle.
o 2. The person determines that the motor vehicle is locked or there is no reasonable manner in which the person can remove the minor or domestic animal from the vehicle.
o 3. Before entering the motor vehicle, the person notifies a peace officer, emergency medical service provider or first responder or an animal control enforcement agency or deputy, if appropriate, of the minor or confined domestic animal.
o 4. The person does not use more force than is necessary under the circumstances to enter the motor vehicle and remove the minor or domestic animal from the vehicle.
o 5. The person remains with the minor or domestic animal until the person who is contacted as prescribed in paragraph 3 of this subsection arrives at the motor vehicle.
• B. A person is not immune from civil liability if the person fails to abide by any of the provisions of subsection A of this section and commits any unnecessary or malicious damage to the motor vehicle.
• C. For the purposes of this section, “domestic animal” means a dog, a cat or another animal that is domesticated and kept as a household pet.
In practical terms, this means that you have protection from a civil lawsuit if you break into a car in order to help a child or pet that’s suffering in a hot car. This should alleviate any concerns of people worrying about legal actions and encourage people to take action in order to prevent an innocent from suffering injuries, heat sickness, or wrongful death due to extreme temperatures.

Welcome our newest rescues to LOVAR 💞 This momma and her kittens were to be dumped in the desert if a rescue wasn't found and we were lucky to have room for them. We had no knowledge if the mom was feral or tame, but here at LOVAR we don't take just the kittens and not the mom 😺

Mom seems unsure and shy, but very sweet, and her kittens we estimate to be about two months old. We will be getting full exams, vaccinations, spay/neuters, and make sure all are socialized before placing them for adoption, but in the meantime help us welcome our newest family 🤗

🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️ In honor of Pride month, we've named the momma Judy, and her two kittens Gilbert and Marsha. If you don't recognize these names, read below about why we picked them! LOVAR is all inclusive and we support everyone in our community ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜

Judy (after Judy Garland, a cultural gay icon) https://ew.com/movies/why-judy-garland-endures-as-a-gay-icon/

Gilbert (after Gilbert Baker, artist, and creator of the first rainbow flag) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gilbert_Baker_(artist)

Marsha (after Marsha P Johnson, a gay activist and drag queen) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marsha_P._Johnson

PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE YOUR PETS IN A CAR FOR ANY GIVEN TIME!!
We are sharing this post written by Rochelle Amato Puczkowskyj, RoRescue.
Dogs can die in hot cars from heatstroke, a life-threatening condition that occurs when a dog's body temperature rises to a dangerous level. Dogs can't cool down by sweating like humans, so they're more vulnerable to overheating. Even on a moderate day when it's 70°F outside, a car with closed windows can reach 89°F in just 10 minutes. When a dog's body temperature reaches 109°F or higher, its cells begin to die rapidly and its brain can swell, causing seizures. Other consequences of heatstroke include organ failure, brain damage, and suffocation. Dogs can suffer from heatstroke in as little as 15 minutes, even if a window is open or water is left in the car.

May 9th was a very special day for Scott and Earline Lewis of SaddleBrooke. SaddleBrooke Pet Rescue Network was hosting an adoption event with various rescues, ours was included.. That's where Scott and Earline met Kiki. A few weeks prior to the event they had lost their cat due to illness and were still mourning the death. Kiki looked quite a bit like their cat and just fell in love with her. They were unsure if this was too soon for them to adopt but after thinking about her for a few days felt that they needed to adopt this sweet girl and give her the home she truly deserved.

You may remember that Kiki was found in Oro Valley with a note attached to her crate one evening, pleading for someone's help to take her in. Our Director ran out at 9:00 that evening once she heard about the plea and saved Kiki from possible harm.

This adoption was definitely meant to be, it was really love at first sight for all involved.💙💙
Welcome to SaddleBrooke, Kiki, happy tails!

Hi everyone, it's me Penny. I'm still waiting for my forever home. I'm such a great girl and cannot understand why I still haven't been adopted. Is it because I need to be the only pet in the family? That would be a plus in my eyes because I would give my human or humans sooo much love. I am such a great companion, I love to play with my toys, go on short walks (especially now because it's so hot) or just be a couch potato while my humans are watching television or reading a good book. I'll be at PetCo at the Oro Valley Market Place tomorrow, June 2nd from 10:30-2:00, along with Larry our 2nd chance cat and Rascal.
💙💙Penny

Did you know?

Cat declawing is a painful procedure for cats and can lead to a lifetime of chronic pain. Please don't declaw!

Declawing (onychectomy) actually involves removing the last bones of the cat’s toes, not just the claws. (See picture below) Without these bones, changes in the cat’s balance and posture occur. These changes can lead to chronic pain and behavioral issues.

Providing our feline friends with scratching posts and scratch pads will deter them from using your furniture. Offering plenty of playtime and keeping their nails trimmed often will also keep them from scratching. 🐾

Tomorrow is Cinco De Mayo and we'll be at PetCo at the Oro Valley Market Place from 10:30 - 2:00. Penny, Rascal and Larry will be there to help celebrate. Penny loves to dress up, maybe she'll be wearing a sombrero.

We love our Volunteers! Today we would like to recognize a special LOVAR volunteer: Beth Conquest 🤗

Beth not only volunteers with us taking care of the kitties at Petco, writing our newsletters, helping put together our raffle baskets, and doing thank you notes, but also assists with calls for re-homes and spay/neuter questions for No Kill Pima County (one of the organizations our director co-founded). She also takes care of promoting our pets in publications such as the Dispatch in Casa Grande and the AZ Daily Star.

As a Saddlebrook Resident and Snowbird, Beth has also assisted with events in and around Saddlebrook, and when she is not here, she still supports our work with Rescue Group and administrative updates remotely. She demonstrates that even when she is not in Arizona, she can still be effective and provides tremendous help to make sure our pets get visibility.

Since today is her birthday, we couldn’t think of a better time to say we love and thank you so much for all of the love and assistance you do behind the scenes to help our community and are so happy you joined our "LOVAR Pack"

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, and THANK YOU for all you do for us and the animals! 🤗❤️🐾

It's official!! Rosie and Rascal's trial adoption has now become permanent. Not too long ago, there were four tuxedo cats found and saved by our Director; 2 male and 2 female. We still have their brother and sister who need a little more socialization before they will be ready to find their "forever" homes. Fortunately Rosie and Rascal were adopted together.

Happy tails, sweet babies, you will now have a wonderful life.
