Those of us that have chosen to be horse trainers have all realized what a process we’re up against. First we need to have somewhat of a natural talent to train a horse. Next we go on to work for those guys or gals that have proven their ability to train a horse and win, and we learn all we can! After that we take the plunge and go off on our own to try it out. All while trying to acquire more knowledge, tack, training tools, a good truck and trailer, our own clientele, our own training facility, we often wonder if it’s all worth it. But then, there are those days when you show a horse something for the first time and it just clicks and we remember why we got into this whole thing in the first place. Its the horse! It’s amazing how trainable these animals really are and what they put up with. This is a little two year old, and this was the first time it had ever been roped on. Yet when we’re done he hangs his head and licks his lips like he’s been there before, it’s pretty amazing! #horsetraining #horsesareawesome #twoyrold #ropehorse #ropingthedonkey #heelhorse #fastlearners #passiontowin #endoftheyearthoughts
Boons Dualin cat scored a 223.65 in the first round here at the American Rope Horse Futurity. We’re now getting ready for round 2.
We had a lot of fun at the pro-am last night. We weren’t any good in the average but me and Junior Nogueira were able to win the second round. Thanks Kat Pelroy for putting on the roping, it was a blast!
We got to spend the weekend with the family in Utah and also got to rope at the home town rodeo. Britt won a little in the breakaway and we ending up winning the mixed!
Getting low on Iceman, a three yr old we have in training.
**Helpful tip** Here’s a simple exercise I like to do on all my heel horses both old and young. When I come into the corner I just ask him to break down to a trot. I want him to be responsive and if he isn’t I will just stop him and back him right there and then lope him back to the donkey until I feel like he is responsive. After I break him down, I’ll drop my hand and drive him into position at a trot. This will help him rate and help me ride him all the way through the corner increasing my odds of catching. You can also do this on a dummy or lead steer. #ropehorse #teamroping #heelhorsetraining
What a great memorial day! Jared Sharp and I were able to win the 9.5 World Series roping here in Homedale. It ended up paying $12,800!!Thanks to all those who are fighting and who have fought for our country so we have the freedom to do what we love!
Despite all the rain and mud, Brittany made a great run in Jordan Valley. She was a 2.8, good enough to split second! Good work!
Here’s a nice horse that we call Dooley that we’ve been riding for Jerry and Lynn Yates. He’s coming along great in the heading! #ropehorse #ropehorsetraining #headhorse #rope #cattle #sorrel #horsemanship #horsetraining
