Riding alongside my daughter evokes memories of my own childhood days spent with horses. It also provides a unique perspective on my personal growth, reminding me of my origins and the progress I've made. This shared experience with my beautiful daughter is truly a treasured gift.

Remember where you started and acknowledge and find pride in how far you have come and keep striving for more. ✨🖤

"The horse is a mirror. It goes deep into the body. When I see your horse I see you too. It shows me everything you are, everything about the horse. I try to face life for what it is. There’s heartache, but it’s a good thing. I’m trying to save the horse’s life and your life too. The human is so good at war. He knows how to fight. But making peace, boy, that’s the hardest thing for a human. But once you start giving, you won’t believe how much you get back." - Ray Hunt.

I have a lot of friends doing this competition who I’m overjoyed for. But the determination and true grit and grace Katie shows is something you don’t find anymore. I’m so beyond grateful and blessed to have a woman like her as not only a friend but a fellow horse woman and more. She’s incredible and I’m so so excited for her and Seamus ✨🖤🖤✨

I made the decision last year, late summer, that along with some fellow trainers that I was going to do the Mustang Champions - Western Challenge Vegas 2024. I traveled and picked up two mustangs in Utah and Nevada that I was so excited for. Two totally different built horses that had their own special characters. I started working them both, all while training some outside horses (Seamus, the horse I’m using for Vegas, being one of them). About a month later or so I found out I was pregnant. Of course that put a hault to all of my plans. I was due right in the middle of the competition dates. I scrambled sending outside horses back to their homes, and then was stuck figuring out the best thing to do with my mustangs. I found a great home for one of them, and the other one I ended up having to send back to the BLM corrals.

Fast forward to February, our world flipped upside down. We found out at 5 months that our son no longer had a heartbeat and I was induced to deliver our lifeless baby, born on February 29th.

I struggled with needing to find something to keep me busy and get through all of the heartache. So 2 months later, at the end of April, I last minute asked a, now good friend, if I could bring Seamus back in for training and use him for the show. I had only had 5 rides on Seamus last year before I had to send him home. He had scattered rides, nothing past a trot, in a round pen, over winter. Just before coming back to me, another guy had put a couple outside rides on him. When he got here, I threw him right into work by taking him to a clinic, and we have busted our butts since then. While so many in this competition have been able to have the full time since September with their horses, we are coming in hot with just over 60 days of training.

This little gelding has truly given me his all. Through tears (lots of them) and sweat, we have accomplished sooo much in the last couple of months. We are stepping into this competition knowing fully that we are underdogs, in more ways than one. But I’m excited for the experience, to experience this with my family, and fellow trainers, and to watch other trainers from all over and at different levels and what they have accomplished.

Let’s go Seamus!

If you find yourself unable to clap for the success of others you have already lost… as someone who has ridden countless horses for people and started more than my fair share of c**ts when I see someone who is looking for help I ALWAYS send them to my friends I ALWAYS recommend them before myself and I always will. Seeing the people around me succeed is what I find joy in. I want them to succeed I LOVE that. It’s very unfortunate to hear about fellow trainers unable to do that. Remember to stay humble out there my friends.

This!!!

Just start. Whatever that dream is of yours. Even though it’s messy and you don’t know what you’re doing. Just start and fumble through it.

Don’t be afraid to suck at doing something for the first time.

And don’t stop learning once you start figuring some things out.

The second you think you got it all figured out and stop being open to learning, you may as well throw in the towel cause you just got as good as you’ll be. ✌🏽
