Friday, September 6 our UKI weekend judge and current EO team member will be offering seminars at IncrediPAWS!

Seminar registration will open for CURRENT STUDENTS Monday, July 8 at 8pm EST.
Remaining spots will open to the public Wednesday, July 10 at 8pm EST.

Seminar Details:
9:00am To Blind or Not to Blind. Perfecting the ex*****on of blind crosses and decision-making for when the blind cross might be the best (or worst!) choice on a course.
1:30pm Masters Coursework. Handling and Analysis of masters-level coursework. This session is perfect for teams looking to improve their performance in the Masters Series UKI tournament.

About McKenzie:
McKenzie Minto has been competing in agility for over 14 years, throughout which she has been honored to represent the USA internationally on 8 occasions. She and her border collie Safari have earned podium placements at national events in UKI, USDAA, and AKC. She attended the Junior World Championships as a junior handler and has more recently moved into the adult field, competing at the World Agility Open and European Open.

As an instructor, McKenzie has a keen attention to detail. She believes that perfecting the fundamental skills such as commitment point, side changes, and line efficiency is the key to agility success. Once the basics are mastered, she enjoys adding more complex skills to a team’s repertoire. McKenzie sees the sport through a very comprehensive lens, incorporating topics of handling, training, mental management, athleticism, and course theory into her seminars. As a judge, McKenzie seeks to provide safe, flowy, and appropriately-challenging courses for the competitors. An international competitor herself, she remains in touch with the global trends of agility and aims to design courses that allow handlers to practice the skills required at today's most prestigious events.

Outside of agility, McKenzie recently earned her degree in Accounting and plans to pursue her CPA license.

Friday, 7/26
9:00am-12:00pm
Novice Handling: This seminar will focus on the handling of novice challenges. There will be only jumps and tunnels (no contacts or weaves). We will work on improving timing, handler position, and location of various and skills. Dogs must be proficient on jumps and tunnels (Dogs must be 12 months or older. Dogs do not need to be jumping full height.). Working spot $125. Limited to 5 students.

1:00pm-4:00pm
Tunnels Ahead!: All things tunnels! We will work tunnel commitment, turns out of tunnels, tunnel discriminations, and tunnel threadles. Only tunnels and jumps will be used. There will be no contacts or weaves. (Dogs must be 12 months or older). Working spot $125. Limited to 5 students.

5:00pm-8:00pm
Backside Skills & Drills: This is designed for dogs who have been introduced to backsides but do not yet have complete proficiency on the various skills. Topics to be addressed include different backside angles, handling, and commitment. (Dogs must be 18 months or older). Working spot $125. Limited to 5 students.

Saturday, 7/27
9:00am-11:00am
PUPPIES (Audit only): This session will cover foundation skills needed for the future agility puppy. No equipment will be used. Your puppy will be exposed to toy play, reward markers, commitment and body awareness and most of all how to have fun with you! (Geared towards puppies 6-7 months old).

12:00pm-3:30pm
Common Masters Challenges: We will address some of the main challenges that we are presented with in Masters-level agility courses. This could include 180s, wraps, obstacle discriminations, etc. Sequences will be between 6-12 obstacles. (Dogs must be competing at the Excellent/Masters level). Working spot $150. Limited to 6 students.

ISC Skills & Drills: This will not be an intro to ISC challenges. Teams signing up should have an understanding of the types of challenges presented on ISC courses. We will work through skills and drills that are commonly presented at level 2/3. (Dogs do not need to have competed in an ISC competition, but the dogs must be proficient on all equipment.) Working spot $150. Limited to 6 students.

ISC Coursework: Teams will have a chance to walk and run full ISC Level 2/3 courses. Working spot $150. Limited to 6 students.

Common Excellent Challenges: We will address some of the main challenges that we are presented with in Excellent-level agility courses. This is for teams that are in Excellent or new to the Masters level who are looking to grow their confidence and understanding of these challenges (Dogs must be competing at the Excellent or Masters level). Dr. Arielle Markley and her OSU team are looking for agility border collies to help with a study!

On May 16-19 the AGILE research team will be performing a study evaluating the biomechanical effects of weave pole performance in agility Border Collies. Testing is being performed at the University of Akron and time slots are available all days. All dogs will receive a sports medicine and orthopedic examination. Reflective markers will be attached to the dog (no shaving necessary) and the dog will perform 8 repetitions of the weave pole obstacle. Video, wearable sensor, and pressure sensitive walkway data will be recorded. Each dog will take about 1 – 1 ½ hours to complete start to finish. Those interested can email [email protected]

June 7:
9:00am-12:30pm: ISC Handling. Dogs registering for this seminar must be 18 months old, proficient on all equipment, and training/competing with the skills similar to what would be needed for UKI Masters Series and/or ISC J3/A3.

1:30pm-5:00pm: Introduction to International Skills. This seminar will be offered using only tunnels and jumps. Dogs do not need to be jumping full height but they do need to be at least 12 months old. It will be geared for those teams wanting to learn more difficult skills such as, but not limited to, backsides, threadles, and layering.
