Hemingway's hind paw nail care
HemingwayTheDog has decided that sitting is the preferred position for his pedicure. Isn't it amazing what we can continue to learn when we are in constant collaboration! What accommodations have you made for your pet for their nail care?
Cooperative care training, giving eye drops = AMAZING! Our very own, Dr. Kimberly Krug has been teaching her 2 beautiful dogs, Soso and Gatsby, to cooperate for an eye drop procedure. Can you identify the start button that tells Dr. Krug to give the eye drops?

Meet Biggles, here to remind everyone that learning IS fun. Especially when working on cooperative care training that builds autonomy and confidence in the learner. This video was taken minutes before starting a virtual training session with the Animal Behavior Clinic. Check out the text below to hear from Biggles' mom:
"Biggles has generalized anxiety & fear which makes life hard. The amazing team of Dr. Krug & Julia has helped change our lives for the better. They have been so supportive & adaptive, always tailoring the training to the animals in front of them, for both Biggles & myself. Progress is ongoing but we are having so much fun moving forward & learning how Biggles processes & learns, and we are continually revising our methods so that he enjoys the process. The video shows his anticipation for his training session! "
You might remember Krista, Thor, and Sage from a previous highlight video that was demonstrating a creative strategy for introducing cooperative paw care training. Check out this NEW video to see their progress on now being able to perform the treatment needed while managing to have fun!
Weaving in cooperative care training, such as a brief ear check, to happen outside of a normal "training session" is beneficial in SO many ways! For one, it allows for exposure to the skill to happen in a different setting (generalization!), AND can also help offset the "trying to find time to train" mentality that can be so difficult in our busy busy lives.
What creative solutions have you come up with to make time for training?
Cooperative Care Mission: To give oral medication.
Featuring: Julia and HemingwayTheDog
Status = success.
Overall: SO MUCH FUN! 😁😁
Watch HemingwayTheDog stand completely still for a cooperative suture removal. He certainly deserves a party for this accomplishment!! 🎉
How does #Corneliuz communicate to Dr. Pachel that he is ready for his nail trim to begin? … Funny you should ask, check out this video to see it in action! How amazing is it that we CAN talk to dogs??
Cooperative veterinary care and handling thrives on creative approaches, and we encourage always trying to find the easiest, most accessible "in-road" for the individuals we are working with. This means that not all cooperative care looks the same, and in fact, includes infinite possibilities to tweak and adjust for every situation!
In this video, check out our very own Dr. Pankratz and her kitty Kaeto beautifully demonstrating a cooperative nail trim. This technique is the result of multiple training sessions with a focus of gradually building trust and ensuring Kaeto's comfort during each session. By training with this approach, Kaeto is now able to stay relaxed and eat cheese for the entire duration of the nail trim.
Fun fact: one unique aspect when working with Kaeto is that he is completely blind! You can follow his antics on Instagram: @kaeto_the_blind_one

Who says bath time has to be a bummer... Check out our Rockstar duet Alison and Oliver working together to make bathing an enjoyable activity to do together.
(Plus, isn't Oliver adorable?!...)
💛 AND! 💛
Notice the careful design for setting up the bath environment for success. Are you able to identify the creative antecedent arrangements in these video clips?
We are so happy to be a part of team Oliver. See below for a testimonial from Alison:
"We started working with Animal Behavior Clinic to help Oliver with his fear and anxiety. Since we made significant progress on that front with the help of Dr. Krug, I wanted to take the next step of training Oliver to be comfortable with taking baths. The last time we attempted one, he communicated that he really did not like it, so we made baths a lower priority until we were able to make more progress on helping Oliver be more comfortable and confident in his daily life. Dr. Krug recommended working with Julia, who like Dr. Krug, is amazing! Because of the training plan Julia tailored for us, Oliver looks forward to bath training, and most importantly, has fun! I had no idea it was possible for a dog to love being in a bathtub with water running, especially Oliver! The training sessions have been super enjoyable for both me and Oliver, and I’m so grateful to work with Animal Behavior Clinic. They are a smart, empathetic, and professional team, who take the time to plan and iterate based on Oliver’s needs."

We recently got to hear of a wonderful success story from one of our clients, Joanne and her wonderful dog Nemo that she gave us permission to share with you!
"Nemo and I started with the Animal Behavior Clinic in April of this year. Because of his many health issues, Nemo was becoming harder and harder to manage with veterinary care. He needed sedation for even the smallest things, like a vaccine, but even that was becoming difficult as he would often power through the sedation we tried. During our consultation with the Animal Behavior Clinic, Dr. Krug was able to identify that part of Nemo's issue was untreated pain. She referred us to a pain specialist and to Julia for training on cooperative care. Nemo's pain is now completely controlled thanks to our consult and he and I have been doing virtual training with Julia for the past six months. This past weekend I was able to give Nemo his first Adeuqan injection for his joints. He was not sedated and chose to partake in the procedure without a grumble, growl, or bite! This was a huge win for us and I cannot thank the Animal Behavior Clinic staff enough for helping me improve the relationship I have with Nemo. And for teaching him that vet care isn't so bad after all!!"
Thank you again to Joanne for sharing Nemo's story of success! Great job Nemo!
