Are you interested in getting your kids the opportunity to enjoy the holiday season with horses?
Below is a idea of what you will be looking at when bringing your kid to the Christmas camp. I have not made this set in stone yet and I am looking into making changes to be able to have the WHOLE family involved. This would be a Friday evening to Saturday afternoon camp. Please let me know if this is something y'all you be intersed in. Located at StoneCrest Equine Center in Prestonsburg, Ky.

Tana Wells Horsemanship now requires a 60-day minimum for starting horses under saddle, as quality horsemanship cannot be achieved within a 30-day timeframe. This condensed period typically yields only seven days of riding. It is unrealistic to expect most horses to be fully trained in such a short span. Instead, 30 days allows for respectable groundwork, preparation for saddling, and introductory rides.

As a professional, my goal is to lay a solid foundation for horses that will serve them well throughout their careers. The first few months are pivotal in establishing a horse's long-term success and enjoyment of its work. Therefore, I cannot guarantee satisfactory results from horses within 30 days if your expectations are unrealistic.

For horses with prior handling, initial training, or requiring refreshing, I will consider a 30-day timeline. However, fully untrained horses necessitate a minimum 60-day commitment.

Welcome to Tana Wells Horsemanship!

I am now offering additional lesson slots. My lessons cover horse care before and after riding, riding instruction, ground handling, tacking up, and evaluating horses. If interested, we can also explore showing with my barn. I cater to all skill levels.

Lessons start at $50 per hour.

SHS Bizzare Addiction aka Dexters first time loping today!!

Already making friends!! Everyone meet Faith! She is a yearling mustang I am fostering from Bluegrass Burro Rescue to put some training on. She will be here to learn all her ground training and will be available for adoption once she has completed her training with me! Excited to see what accomplish in the days to come!

I’ve started teaching Dexter how to disengage his hindquarters today with a leg cue. Not perfect yet but super happy with the start!

Yesterday was me and Murph’s first official day working together. She is learning to lead, pick up her front feet, and just getting used to me and the new atmosphere. She even got to meet my Papa and she was no doubt a sweetie.

A little snippet of Ro on the ground today before ridding. I usually work her for about 30 mins before riding her and this is just a small part of what we did!

Today Ro decided she didn’t want to go past a walk today lol. Every time I’d ask her for more than a walk she’d try to bite my foot (not sure the advantage of that) I got off and made sure her saddle and the cinch wasnt bothering her before I decided she was just not having today. So to solve the problem i made her trot in smaller circles to where I had to pull her head in from the opposite of where she was trying to bite me to prevent it. After I did that she was amazing. She realized she couldn’t just get away with it like she wanted to. So all in all I’m proud we had a learning experience for the both of us today!
