Dental month is approaching!
FEBRUARY IS DENTAL MONTH!
During February we offer:
* $10.00 off your pet's regularly priced dental trimming for rabbits, guinea pigs and chinchillas.
We also offer:
* $10.00 off all regularly priced dental work for all other exotic mammals and reptiles.
Annual dental exams are especially important with our rodent and rabbit companions.
DID YOU KNOW that their teeth grow continuously throughout their lifetime? Rabbits use their front teeth, the incisors, to slice their food. One side at a time, they use their molars to grind their food. It is extremely important for rabbits and rodents to maintain their teeth’s appropriate shape, length, and alignment. Common causes of dental disease are inappropriate diet, metabolic bone disease, primary malocclusion of the cheek teeth, change in the formation of the jaw, congenital disorders, or previous injury. These dental issues can be very dangerous for rabbits and difficult to recover from. If the cheek teeth overgrow, they can block the nasal passages or nasolacrimal duct. Common signs indicative of dental disease include drooling, wet fur or matting on the face or front legs, dropping their food, losing interest in their regular diet, eating or drinking less, less f***l production, change in weight, reduced activity, poor coat condition, pain (teeth grinding, hunched posture), ocular discharge, facial swelling, or f***l matter sticking to the rear. Other disorders can also cause symptoms like these. Please let us know if you’d like to schedule an exam with us! πŸ™‚

Meet Alana...

Alana is a "Rock Star" Veterinary Assistant who has been working here at our clinic and caring for our patients since June 2022. Alana is originally from Richmond, VA. She's been working in veterinary medicine since 2017. She is attending Roanoke College working on receiving a Bachelor of Science with a minor in psychology degree and is preparing to apply to graduate school to become a Veterinarian.

Her favorite part working in the field is learning new and different things every day. β€œThere is never a boring day when working in this industry while there is always so much to learn.”

Outside of work she enjoys traveling to new places, spending time with friends and family, painting, solving puzzles and going for rides in her jeep

Another form of environmental enrichment is offering the largest cage possible. Minimum cage sizes for different species can be found online, and you can also speak with your avian veterinarian for advice. Unfortunately, some of the cages advertised for birds are too small for these pets to exhibit natural behaviors.

Missing Sun Conure in the Lynchburg area.

Sweet Kiwi got out this afternoon and her parents are devastated. I am told that she is friendly and likes walnuts. Sun conures make a very high pitched, loud flock call that will not sound like any wild bird you would typically hear. If you see her please use the contact information below to help get her home❀️🐦❀️
