Winterizing the Rabbitry. My rabbits are outside 24/7/365. We have thriving meat production year round. They tolerate cold as long as they're dry and out of the wind. I love my modified "hanging cages" as it makes cleaning much easier than hauling trays.

A few updates as we wrap 2023~

It's been a slow year for Sweet Pea Rabbitry as I've had a new diagnosis of Psoriatic Arthritis. I've navigated finding what medication works and fought serious fatigue. The rabbitry was put on hold. We did host one sale in the spring with my annual plant seedling overstock, but otherwise took a major step back in breeding.

I did make some minor cuts to my breeders to keep my numbers low while I was down and out. My kids have been fabulous caretakers on the days I was too sore/tired to function. We snuck in one breeding between Ducky (my massive rex mix doe) and Titan the Flemish giant. The kids love their two babies and they've been well socialized.

These two kits would make great pets and are ready to leave mom if anyone is interested in a pet-only rabbit.

** Foster babies! **
We are so fortunate that we were contacted to help with a surprise litter of babies from a pet thought to be a buck. OOPS!
I will say that gender determination can be very difficult in young animals, even those of us who have been at it for years still have the occasional surprise pop up. I'm not perfect and some animals "develop" later than others. Usually- if I sell you a buck, you can be pretty sure it's male. It gets tricky though because if you're not exposing them correctly they can look female but actually be male.

Enough chit-chat; on to the babies!

These cuties are now 9 days old. Their eyes should start opening tomorrow, so I used today as an opportunity to snap pics before they can see me (& try to run away!).

*baby update*
PotatoChip and her babies are all doing fabulous, she's a great first time mom! All four of these kits will be available in 6 weeks( old), non pedigreed as they are mixed breed.
PotatoChip(mom) is 50% mini rex/50% lionhead
FrenchFry(dad) is mini plush lop

Three babies are rex-furred (orange/black harlequin, blue/fawn harlequin and blue)
one is regular fur (blue/fawn harlequin)

In the spring-farming exhaustion I realized a little late that oopsie, Pieces got a bonus date this time around 🤦‍♀️

Lesson to check the app before pairing. 🤷‍♀️

No wonder she didn't seem interested yesterday 🤣

And yes, my rabbits have weird names. 🥔🍟🐿✌️🏵

I've decided to part with my 18month old trio of American Chinchilla Rabbits. These three have been raised in a colony style and both females are proven (great!) mothers. They would do fine in cages, but if you are interested in colony raising you MUST have a secure bottom. They've mastered the art of digging out.
Living with a male 24/7 means they are potentially pregnant and should be given access to nesting boxes for the first 35 days at minimum, just in case.

This mama was working hard in the heat! Everyone is doing awesome and we got 3 Chocolates and 3 blacks from her!
I'm so excited to know that there are chocolate genetics in my Silver Fox lines!

Took some of the buns and the merch to Rochester Junk in the trunk, was a bust and got rained out. Only sold one rabbit (but it got a great home with 2 older kiddos).
