I stopped by Friends of Campbell County Animal Control today and every single cat cage had kittens in it! These are 2 of 4 babies that are lucky enough to be staying with us until they find their forever home. (They are available through their website.) Please consider adopting from them! I cannot stress this enough, please spay and neuter your pets. Find a TNR program for outdoor stray cats to help control the kitty population if you are seeing a problem. Be part of a humane solution. Foster if you cannot adopt. Donate if you cannot foster, whether it be time, cat food or a few bucks. If you own a local business, do a food drive for them. Share posts. Educate others on the cat crisis and importance of spay and neuter. Teach your children the importance of spay and neuter. Find out how you can help raise money for the new shelter in Campbell County that is desperately needed. There are so many cats in our community that need help and so many people involved in the process of helping who are incredibly stressed every kitten season because they care so much about animals. We can all do a little something to help those people who are emotionally exhausted and save little lives! We can all do this together! If you feel moved to help but do not know where to start, call us! We can help guide you!

Ear mites are a common parasite typically found in young pets. This video shows an exam of a sample taken from a young kitten at the office. You can see the mites moving around in the waxy debris and as you can imagine, this creates an intensely itchy feeling for the pet. Thankfully, once the problem is diagnosed, there a treatment options that help relieve the issue. At our office we like Milbemite (a prescription product that only requires once application) followed by the use of Revolution. Give our office a call if you are concerned your pet may be having an issue.
“Heartworms” a word no owner wants to hear associated with their pets; and thankfully a preventable issue. We recommend all dogs get an annual blood-screening and stay on year-round preventative. We know there are positive dogs in the area, we see them.
This video shows a microfilariae (an immature heart worm) which can be seen moving in a sample of a heart worm positive dog’s blood under a microscope.
