Brucey Bruce is still looking for his forever home. He is just a big happy goober who wants to play, run and love. He's pretty rambunctious so maybe no real small kids. He wants to please so much that obedience training would be right up his alley! He was rescued from living life on the streets and is looking for a home of his own. Are you looking for a goofy boy? Bruce is the perfect match for you! Apply at www.krrtx.org/forms

These three are amazing dogs that need out of this mostly retired rescue. Bruce was found at a Lowes looking for materials to build a home. He is under a year and pure playful puppy. May be a little too rambunctious for small children but who knows with proper training. Then there's Schooner the husky who lurked around the property at night for a week. He is super fast, super sweet and not fond of sharing space with the chickens. He learns fast and listens pretty well. He needs room to run. Then there's Mable. The sweetest love you will ever meet. She is so happy to snuggle and be your tv watching partner. She can get a little jealous and doesn't like some females but can't figure out why she's selective. All ride in the car like chaps, do well on leashes but I wouldn't say leash trained and all just want to live happily ever after with you. Please share to spread the word and if interested apply at www.krrtx.org/forms. I need help getting these sweet kids out of here. Thank you

Update on Kay. Right after I got her I got COVID and was down for a week, then the holidays. On the 2nd she went to take the no more puppy vow! She is now spayed, vaccinated and was HW and all tick disease negative!!!! Isn't that the best? She is about 10 months old and gets the cutest zoomies! Her back end goes faster than her front end. Now that she is settling in we'll start introducing her. Otherwise she is ready for her forever home!!! Apply at www.krrtx.org/forms.

This little girl, GiGi, was adopted 5 years ago by an older gentleman. His kids were present and knew the rules about returning her should anything happen to him. Well, I guess that was forgotten over the years. She was picked up in Aztec, NM by animal control covered in ticks and looking rough according to them. I have not seen her yet but know she will need a trip to the vet! I was still listed as her emergency contact and his number is disconnected. References didn't call back. I told them she may have to be placed as I couldn't go there. I posted as if by some odd chance someone in the area may see it or know someone and low and behold the amazing Debbie Davis and Kimberly Crabtree informed me transport goes right through there!!! The shelter staff are working to find someone to meet transport Saturday afternoon and James Abel and I will drive to Dallas Sunday morning and get her back. Even after shutting down and being out of network the rescue community never ceases to amaze me! Thank you ladies and thank you Katie at Aztec for scanning for a chip and reaching out. Stay tuned for updates. She WILL need a new forever home.

KRR has the rare cat for adoption too. Meet Stinky. Female 6-7 months old. Fixed and up to date on shots. I really know nothing about cats but she is white with calico spots. Never been outside. She does have the entire kennel building to run and play in. Loves to torment Maggie the BC I posted a few days ago. Please someone give her a home.

Meet Maggie the Border Collie. Shes around 5 years old and has lots of energy. Loves to play fetch and run and play. Loving. Leash trained. LOVES kids. House trained. She is a super smart girl and needs activity so please lets get her out of rescue. She hates cats and I really wouldn't trust her with small animals as she has a high prey instinct. She's fixed and ready for your home. Located in San Antonio but can transport almost anywhere. Apply at www.krrtx.org/forms

Update. Xrays showed no blockage so he must have ingested something that didn't agree with him. Probably all those giant grasshoppers he keeps bringing inside. So a bland diet and tummy meds and he'll be just fine! Whew

Sweet Buck is at the Dr today to figure out whats wrong. He started vomiting around 230 am. Im afraid the sweet boy ate something he shouldn't have! He's the last pup needing a home too. Please say a little prayer for him.

THANK YOU!!!!! Nugget and all the KRR rescue dogs are so grateful. We raised enough for almost 3 clinics plus an anonymous donor/friend sent $2k a month ago. At 40 pets per clinic that is a lot of prevented unwanted litters. KRR has been pretty quiet lately so this amount raised was so appreciated. Thank you.

I'm closed for intake right? The chi was about 1/4 mile from the house. There were 2 but I only found him and have continued to look for his brother for a week. In the process of looking i came across the old lady border collie. Fat and perfectly behaved so hoping someone is looking for her. The chi had an abcess on his head and it cost $325 this morning to clean, clip, rabies and medication! I have one pup leaving tomorrow and 1 more pup to go and 2 in. Sheesh!

Buck and Daisy are 3 month old pups looking for their forever homes. Will be medium size (best guess) terrier cattle dog mix (best guess but no guarantee). They love to play and sleep. Have only chewed on doggy toys! Doing great with house training either on pads or going outside. They use the doggy door. Love sleeping on the human bed at night and during nap times. They are fixed, UTD on shots, microchipped and ready to go. These are really cute pups. Please apply at www.krrtx.org/forms. Thank you

Long overdue KRR status update. This may be a long one... KRR is not shutting down as a 501c3. We are however changing our focus from roadside rescue to spay/neuter so there will be less to rescue in the long run.

KRR still has 15 dogs. Two I would call personal dogs, the rest are sanctuary dogs for one biting, bad attitude reason or another. Many are 10 years or older so their vet care costs are increasing. They will live out their days with me in all the comforts they have been used to - on my furniture!

Many of you have heard me say I am retired. Well sort of - I am reclaiming somewhat of a normal life and moving forward in what was an unexpected turn of events last year. I also need to focus on my career as I am the only one paying my mortgage now.

A few months after Mike died last year, I rescued a 70lb mix dumped at work. I felt something was off but couldn't quite figure it out so I never let him interact with the other dogs. The morning I was taking him to the vet to get fixed he broke loose from me 3 times to try to attack dogs at the fences. The last time he broke away from me he knocked me on the ground and took off after my crippled Anatolian and tried to kill him. I was dragging 200lbs of dogs and with all my might trying to get him to break lose. I grabbed him and picked him up by his back legs - nothing. I grabbed him by his legs and testicles and finally he broke off of Louie and swung around at me. He did not attack me but tried to go back to Louie. I have broke up many fights, been bitten, knocked down etc., but at that moment I realized I was alone out in the country and could have been there for days before anyone realized I was missing. Something snapped in me that morning and I knew that was the end. I worked to move the remaining adoptable dogs out and I still have 3 challenging ones who need a new home.

KRR has rescued, rehabbed and rehomed over 900 dogs in 10 years. Most rescues don't stay open more than three years so I feel we've had one heck of a run! The vast majority of these dogs stayed with me with the exception of a few great foster homes.

On a more personal note with all of this I have been struggling with PTSD symptoms. Flashbacks and images of dogs and situations. My chest hurts and my mind goes blank when people start to tell me about bad situations. I have to stop them because right now I cannot deal with it nor hear it. I guess compassion fatigue at it's max? I described it last weekend to someone that I feel as if my soul has been shredded. For the last 16 years I have worked in hospice and in rescue. Death and horror stories surround me routinely. It's time to make some changes to save me now.

I cannot thank everyone enough for the last 10 years. The friends, volunteers, adopters, donors, supporters, followers - you have been amazing! I have been humbled over and over by your generosity, love, encouragement and support. I have made incredible friends and connections through all of this and intend to continue to support their efforts.

I am NOT going away. We still have a lot of work to do and there are many, many, many pets who still need our help. I want KRR to focus on spay/neuter clinics in counties with no services or support. Small towns in south Texas are often described as third world countries when it comes to the lack of care of the domestic animals. They are all over the streets and roads. Let's stop them from being born in the first place.

Thank you for reading through this. I've been struggling with writing this post for months. I had to work through the feelings associated with all of this first. I will share posts, answer questions, give resources but I will not be taking in dogs from anyone. So please don't ask and make me say no. I may occasionally pick one up in need if I see it and at my own discretion and ability.

Now LET'S GET SOME DOGS FIXED!!! More to come on all that.
