Come join us at Pup Plaza on Sunday, October 15th from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM for our Kitten Season extravaganza! We will have lots of cuddly kittens in our foster care, as well as adoptable kittens from our friends at Scritch Kittens. To make sure our kittens are safe, only those with a completed application will be allowed to handle them. Don't miss out on this opportunity to add a furry companion to your life! See you there!
One of our most pressing needs is to find great foster homes for our rescue pets.
Becoming a foster parent for SVPP means you will care for an animal in your home for a temporary period of time. Without a facility, we can't save the lives of pets at risk in our local shelter without you — our foster families.
In return for your loving care, we provide donated food, supplies, and medical care as well as great marketing support to help in securing a great forever home for your pet. We will pair you up with a "buddy" who will get answers to your questions and make sure you feel supported all along the foster journey.

We had such a great time at our Reading with Dogs event this past Thursday! The kids really loved getting to interact with the Furry Friends Assisted Therapy dogs and it was amazing to see the difference it made in their reading. It was a win-win situation since the dogs got to practice their therapy skills and the kids got to practice their reading skills. It was heartwarming to see how much fun everyone had, and it was a great reminder of how animals can bring joy and learning to our lives.

Tinkerbell is here to sprinkle some fairy dust on your day!
Tinkerbell is a 3 month old female mixed breed puppy. Our beautiful pup Tinkerbell's mom Lydia was rescued from an unlikely turn of events by a wonderful family who discovered that Lydia was also expecting a litter of puppies! The 6 adorable pups were born on June 8th! They got the best care so Tinkerbell and her siblings can grow up happy and healthy!
Tinkerbell loves to play with her brother Hook as well as the three senior dogs in her foster home. She is also learning to master the mini tennis ball toy! She is crate trained and is working on her potty training. She loves to explore the backyard and is quite the happy snuggler!

Children (6+ years old and up) are invited to practice their reading skills with Furry Friends Assisted Therapy at Pup Plaza! Books will be provided, but children can bring their own book if they choose. Pup Plaza provides a casual, fun environment to read in the company of gentle and loving dogs.
Admission is free. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Hello Winifred!
This tiny senior girl, Winifred, was found as a stray in Fremont and taken to Tricity Animal Shelter. The staff took good care of her, but because of her size and age, she was overlooked by potential adopters, so the shelter asked if we could help. Thanks to one of our amazing senior foster families, Winifred has a soft landing where she can snuggle into a comfy bed and we can learn more about her.

Sunny is a 7+ year old 59lb Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler mix. She is the perfect first dog or dog addition to any family.
She is a joy to have in the house and is always happy and welcoming. Sunny enjoys being with her people and is such a sweetheart and just an easy girl to hang out with!

Lydia, a young terrier, was found on the streets by a concerned community member. It wasn't obvious she was pregnant until several weeks later when she had six adorable puppies.
The lovely woman who found Lydia has adopter her, and Lydia's puppies are now being cared for by SVPP fosters.
Lydia's puppies Hook, Tinkerbell, and Vanessa are available for adoption and looking for great homes!

Meet Coco, an almost 1-year-old German Shepherd Dog weighing approximately 71lbs. 🐾 Coco is an absolute sweetheart - curious, playful, affectionate, and full of energy. He adores everyone he meets and always sees the best in them.
Coco came to SV Pet Project with a challenge in his right foot, requiring multiple surgeries including the removal of a benign tumor and a subsequent full amputation of the right leg. Remarkably, Coco has adjusted seamlessly to being a remarkable tripawed pup! 🌟 Throughout his medical journey, his sweet disposition and friendly nature have shone through.
Currently, Coco shares his home with two older 4-legged siblings. While he'd love a furry companion, he's not part of a bonded pair. As long as he has fellow fur friends to play with, Coco will be one happy boy! 🐶💕
During playtime with his human pals, Coco may get a little excited and exhibit typical puppy behavior - jumping and being a bit mouthy. A firm voice and a 15-minute walk usually do the trick! He's highly responsive to verbal cues and eager to please.
From day one, Coco has been a pro at house training, and he's also crate trained. He's a fan of car rides and is working on perfecting his leash manners, learning not to pull with excitement when meeting new friends - which, let's face it, is every time! 🚗🌳

We are so grateful for your hard work and dedication to helping these shelter pets get the exercise and attention they need. Your efforts make a big difference in the lives of these animals and are an integral part of our organization.

Silicon Valley Pet Project is in need of a foster for a young new Chihuahua momma and her puppies until they are weaned. Last night, the 10 month-old puppy we recently pulled from Tricity Animal Shelter in Fremont, gave birth to 4 puppies.
The shelter did not spay her and our own vet saw her back at the end of July for a general wellness exam so would not have known she was pregnant then. The only signs she had were consistent with a first heat cycle, which made us push out her spay until that cycle was done.
What happened, sadly, is happening more and more. People are not spay/neutering their pets and shelters are not consistently spay/neutering the animals in their care nor are they providing the low cost spay/neuter services that existed pre-Covid.
We will give this sweet girl and her babies our very best care, but we do need some help, both with fostering and with fundraising for the now 4 additional spay/neuter surgeries and sets of vaccinations. If you can help with fostering, please email:

Say hello to Sunny. Sunny is a 6-year-old 49lb Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler mix. She is the perfect first dog or dog addition to any family.
She is a joy to have in the house and is always happy and welcoming. Sunny is still settling in, but she really wants to be part of a family. She enjoys being with her people and is such a sweetheart!
Sunny currently lives with both 2 and 4-legged siblings and loves to be a part of the family activity! She would love to share all her bright and happy moments with a family who will give her all the love in the world.

It's Responsible Dog Ownership Month!
Responsible Dog Ownership Month is an annual observation held in September. The American Kennel Club (A.K.C.) organizes nationwide awareness campaigns and activities throughout the month and paw-parents are encouraged to form lasting bonds of love and affection with their dogs. A.K.C. calls for introspection into the four tenets of dog ownership: health, safety, training, and love. Put September to work by upping your parenting game and becoming the best caregiver for your canines.
Introducing Ruby.
Sweet Ruby arrived at the San Jose Animal Care Center in January very thin, with long nails, worn and broken teeth, masses on her body, weak and painful hips, infected ears and covered in dirt. We have no idea what happened to Ruby, but we are grateful to the shelter for getting her cleaned up and assessing her needs. We are also grateful to the shelter volunteers who showered Ruby with love during her stay. In August, Ruby moved to a shelter foster home where she began the slow work of decompressing and relaxing after her long shelter stay. Thankfully, her shelter foster also happens to be an SVPP foster, and she recognized the need to get Ruby additional medical care. Thanks to our amazing supporters and her foster mom, Ruby is now an SVPP foster dog and she will get the best care our veterinary team can provide. We don't yet know all that Ruby will need, but we are honored to be able to help this resilient and special dog.

Their mom, Lydia, was rescued by a wonderful family after being hit by a car and discovered she was pregnant only after she began going into birth. We're seeing Sunny days ahead! In February, Sweet Sunny was discovered in a forlorn state, scratching from fleas, on the streets of San Jose. After receiving medical attention at the shelter, her affectionate character and calm attitude was quickly noticed by the volunteers. During her Dog Day Out field trips, her gentle behavior was clear to see. Now, Sunny is living the luxurious life with a foster family, who have two placid English Bulldogs to help her adjust. Silicon Valley Pet Project’s newest initiative is Pup Plaza, a unique popup space for dog lovers with the mission of helping dogs in need. Pup Plaza is the perfect setting to engage in celebrations (think dog birthday parties or adoption celebrations), special bonding time with your dog (Doga sessions), levels-based dog training classes as well as creative classes (photography, arts/craft)—all centered around our love for dogs with all proceeds benefiting homeless dogs in our community. Silicon Valley's first dog community center will host adoption events where you could meet your future best friend. Pup Plaza also offers a quiet place for shelter dogs to get away from the stress of the shelter with our Shelter Dog Day Out Program. Come visit us during our community hours to learn about how you can get involved in animal welfare in our community.
