Step by step process of drawing Gage with pastel pencils. My absolute favorite part of this drawing was doing the warm sunshine on his face! Looking for a gift for that special furbaby loving someone? Check out my page for more details. Book your pet portrait today!

My sweet girl Layla. She had quite a lot of fun in the snow.

12/26/2019

Pastel portrait of Gage! Beautiful boy and was so much fun to draw. Pan pastels for the background, and pastel pencils for the details.

Can start sharing some of my Christmas commissions! Check out this cutie Mack! ❤ Was particularly challenging drawing this little white hairs around his snout. Since my drawing paper is white I had to draw the space around and behind his fuzz. The hardest part of making drawings more realistic is drawing what you actually see, instead of what you think you see.

Winter endeavors! We are now collecting logs (maple, apple, cedar, pine and hemlock so far), milling and kiln drying live edge slabs. Finished slabs and furniture should be available in a few months, we will be getting the pieces down to 10% moisture content and sterilizing them with a 24hr cycle at 130 degrees. Looking for a live edge piece to finish yourself? Will have lots of that available too! Updates to come.

07/22/2019

Really fun doing a drawing with completely different colors than my last one!

Proud to have this piece accepted to the Woodinville Summer Art Show! This is a charcoal drawing I did of my great grand mother Gladys Howell. She was born October 16th 1906 in Belle Fourche, South Dakota. She raised wool sheep with her husband Roscoe at a Montana farm with only two rooms, no running water, no refrigerator, no bathroom or electricity and ground that was nearly impossible to farm. There she had 5 children - her mother delivered all but 4 of those. By the time she passed she had five children, 20 grandchildren and 45 great-grandchildren. She was an incredible woman and I'm so glad I got as much time with her as I did.

Working on Beefy's background!

On to the next! Meet Beefy the bulldog! Stage one done, got this handsome dude's face all drawn out. Got new paper that's actually meant for pastels. Did the Layla drawing on regular drawing paper which caused some problems. Going to start with the background today!

And finally done! My lovely Layla. First time doing a drawing like this. Used pan pastels for the background, and stabilo pastel pencils for everything else. Excited to start my next one!

Messy stuff! So close to finishing Layla's portrait! Will post the final picture soon!

Our Story

My name is Courtney Lewis, and I created Scout’s Artistry over 10 years ago. I have always loved producing artwork: from paintings, charcoal, pencil and pastel drawings, to ceramics, signs and birdhouses. Lots of my artwork is inspired be the natural world and living things. I’m a domesticated bird enthusiast, raising various breeds of chickens, ducks and pheasants. I also am fascinated with entomology and am avid collector. I’ve always loved dogs as well. Scout was my dear Australian Shepherd who I had growing up and was the subject of most all my early dog drawings. My most commonly requested artwork is pencil pet portraits. To have a portrait done, all I need is a decent picture of your furry friend and 4-8 weeks! Along with the pet portraits, there are also oil pastel portraits. These pieces are completely customizable. Pick the color of paper, the subject and a color theme: real life, warm, cool, colorful, dark etc. and I will create it for you.

With the addition of a CO2 laser engraver, I am now able to engrave wood, plastic and glass! The CO2 engraver allows me to program anything, pictures, custom drawings, address signs etc. Your imagination is the limit! I make custom signs for chicken coops (personal favorite), farms and homes all over Washington. Scout’s Artistry is unique, check out my pictures! PRICING
