🐾This sweet family of 9 was our lucky pull from Downey Animal Care Center in Los Angeles on Friday Sept 13! We received a plea from a networker last week that the shelter had already put this family on notice. And we got to work! It was noted they were brought in as strays but mama and babies are immaculately clean and we are very suspicious that this was a backyard breeder dump. 😭 Thank goodness they’re with us!🐾Mama Dottie is small but appears to be full Dogo, as do the babies. The puppies are fat and happy, starting to waddle around and all their eyes opened since we got them! They are likely 2-3 weeks old. Everyone is happy and healthy!! 😍🐾This family will be fostered together for another couple of months. We are SO THANKFUL to our fosters for taking on this big task! Please stay tuned, we will be posting TONS of puppy content! AND we’ll be sending in DNA 🧬 tests today to see exactly what these babies are. With the way they sleep, they’ve gotta be Dogo 😂🐾We are compiling a wishlist for mama and babies!! Keep an eye out.

📣 Welcome to the DC Dogo Family, Zeca!

We’re thrilled to introduce this handsome 9-month-old boy, Zeca, to our rescue. What a charming character he is! Zeca was rescued yesterday from Port Saint Lucie HS and is now basking in the comfort of his loving foster home. It’s hard to understand why some dogs end up in shelters, especially such an amazing and loving boy like Zeca. While not everyone is prepared for the unique needs of this breed, those who invest the time and effort will find themselves with an incredibly loyal and loving companion. Zeca quickly became a favorite at the shelter, and the staff there advocated strongly for him. A special thank you to Tiffany and Howard Harned, one of our dedicated volunteers who always go above and beyond to help these East Coast Florida dogs find their way out of the shelter 🙌.

📣Welcome Chief & Micco to the DC Dogo Family!

We’re thrilled that the Okeechobee boys are finally safe and in our care! This wouldn’t have been possible without the unwavering support of our amazing volunteers and supporters. Despite our best efforts to secure a foster home through numerous pleas, it became clear that we were their only hope. We’re deeply grateful for the chance to save them, even though boarding is not our preferred option—it was the only alternative to euthanasia.

Upon pulling them from the shelter, the boys went straight to the vet, where we discovered they were both high heartworm positive 😢. It’s crucial that we find foster homes for them immediately so we can start their heartworm treatment. We are seeking medical fosters who can commit to 3 months of care. Ideally, we need fosters within 2 hours of Tampa, but we will certainly consider those who are not local.

We’ve established a dedicated PayPal link for contributions toward their boarding, vetting, and heartworm treatment to support their needs. We’ve also created an Amazon gift list for additional supplies. With many dogs in our care, your generous donations are more essential than ever.

We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who made this rescue possible. A special shoutout to Destiny for meeting and assessing the boys, Kasia and her husband for their transport, and Hannah for ensuring their safety at the shelter and overseeing their vet care before their journey to Tampa.

Your support and generosity are truly appreciated and make a world of difference for these boys. Thank you for being their champions!

💯100% DOGO💯

🧬Our sweet lil mama Vida is all Dogo. She was adopted earlier this year and is just the best girl ever. Loves cuddling and is the temperament tester dog at . A Dogo as a tester dog.. speaks to her awesome testament!

🐾We don’t usually do DNA tests on all our rescues but we love to see the results when our adopters do them!! Because our resources are so limited, we try our best to take in purebreds, as we are the only breed specific Dogo Argentino rescue in the country 😅 BUT we can never be 100% sure.

🐾Fun fact: almost all of our rescue Dogos are related to at least one other dogo in rescue, even though we are nationwide! If you’ve done an test, let us know if your pup is related to one of ours! DNA 🧬 IS AMAZING!!

Hi there! Willow here taking over for the wonderful volunteers at DC Dogos Rescue.

This is another edition of Wednesday Wisdom with Willow. Today I bark all about scammers who keep popping up like a zit before prom.

With all the pawsitively amazing technology that connects us today, it can also work another way which can trick us and it’s not even Halloween yet!

I give double paws down to the scammers who are trying to sell DC Dogos merchandise in our Facebook comments. I mean first and foremost, there’s a lot more money they can make on Onlyfans. If they were smart, they would stop messing with the dogs on Facebook and go “raise funds” for all the kitty cats on OF.

Our team will never post in the comment section asking anyone to click on a link. I mean who even has time for that? Most of the DC Dogos volunteers have to work a real job that pays money so that they can work an even more demanding job that pays nothing, so they simply just don’t have time to individually tag every person who ever lived to buy a shirt.

Here’s some other scams to avoid:
• A work at home job where they send you a laptop for free
• Exchanging phone numbers with anyone on Marketplace
• A pack of Chihuahuas
• A fart after Taco Tuesday
• A guaranteed 10% return on an investment
• Nigerian Princes
• Anyone from Too Hot To Handle

This is Willow signing off.

There are so many scams on the internet today. Be safe and for the low price of just $59, I can sniff out any scam for you.

🚨EMERGENCY MAMA AND PUPPY FOSTER NEEDED!🚨

📣We just got word there is a Mama Dogo with her 8 1-week old puppies at a CA shelter. She is on stray hold but has already been given first notice and will likely be on the euth list after her stray hold. Pups are all white.

📣We need a foster in the WESTERN REGION that could care for Mama and Pups for a minimum of 7 weeks. We pay for all medical care and are here to help with puppy advice. WE CANNOT SAVE THIS MAMA AND HER BABIES WITHOUT A FOSTER 😭

🙏🏼Please apply on our website. They are not listed but there is a big red button that says “click here to fill out an adoption application” that allows you to do a generic app. Mention Mama and Pups in CA.

SEPTEMBER CALENDAR MODELS: MANDY & MILES 🖤Mandy and Miles are a brother and sister duo who found themselves dumped at a shelter in a rural part of Alabama just because they are deaf. These two are very special to our rescue and were named after an adopter who passed away just a day prior. She told us earlier that week to watch for a sign. 🕊️ Everything fell into place perfectly for these two puppies to get fostered and both of them got adopted by their foster homes!

🩷 Mandy is a spunky little girl who loves to play and annoy her DC Dogos alumni big brother Presley and dogo big sister Peggy She especially loves to sit on them but she loves to sit on people too! She likes to go on walks with her pack and wear cute little outfits! Mandy has a passion for stealing her parents coffee when she is not busy kissing the kittens and her siblings.

💙 Miles enjoys going on walks to the park and exploring. He loves to pick up pine cones, cans, and sticks along the way then run off like he won the lottery! Both of their families have taught them sign language and recently they met up to let them reunite! These two ended up in the perfect homes and they are iving
their best lives!

🚨ANDY HAS HAD ZERO INTEREST😭

😢We are doing our best to pull dogs even though we are extremely underwhelmed but we CANNOT CONTINUE if we can’t get our current dogs medical treatment! We had so many people reaching out about this boy and now we can’t even get a 3 month foster to save his life 😭 You guys, HE WILL DIE FROM HEARTWORM! We need help 😭 A kennel and some extra love is all you need for this guy. Please reach out to help save Andy’s life!

📣URGENT: Last Chance to Save These Boys!

We are in a critical situation to rescue these 2 boys, but we have no available foster homes. We are willing to board them while we search for fosters, but we need your immediate help to cover their vetting and boarding costs.

🔸Vetting: Each dog needs to be fully vetted, including neutering.
🔸Boarding Costs: $600 per dog per month.
We need at least 2 months of funding to cover boarding.

How You Can Help:

🔹Sponsor Boarding or Donate: Pledge in the comments below if you can help cover their boarding costs.
🔹Foster a Dog: Complete a foster application immediately if you can foster. Apply here: dcdogos.org/foster

Note: We are unsure of their history with children, so they need a foster home without small kids and with the ability to separate dogs. If you are local and can offer a short-term foster (10 days), please comment below.

These dogs are in urgent danger. We cannot commit to their rescue without securing the necessary funds for their care. If we are able to save them, we will set up a separate PayPal link for donations towards their boarding and vetting.

Location: Okeechobee, FL
Transport: Can be arranged if you are not local.

😍WELCOME TO DC DOGOS RESCUE, MARLEE 😍

🐾This sweet lil babe was dumped by her breeder in an Alabama shelter after she failed her BAER test 🤬 She’s skinny and full of worms 🪱 but she’s now SAFE! 🎉 Baby Marlee is just about 8 weeks old, she’s fully deaf and she’ll be staying with her foster until she’s healthier and a little older.

📣Stay tuned for updates as we watch Marlee grow 🩷

🐾Thank you to EVERYONE that reached out to help and submitted apps. We will start sorting through them and will post when she’s ready for adoption! We truly appreciate the support, it is what allows us to pull these pups ASAP! 🎉

09/05/2024

Ok, so we have probably talked about this a gazillion times, but we actually want to shed some more light on this topic as it is very important to understand.

As a rescue, we have seen the good, the bad, and the ugly. We get countless messages from people who want to rehome their Dogo and it is usually due to their dog not getting along with a fellow dog in the home.

Dogos are a different breed for sure. They are smart, strong, athletic, relentless, amazingly protective creatures who also have a soft side when nurtured. They can be silly, lazy, stubborn, and friendly.

We absolutely love them all and know our supporters always love a happy ending.

We typically almost never adopt out Dogos to same-sex homes. That’s not to say it can’t work out, but we know what we know from speaking with hundreds of people on a weekly basis and why they choose to rehome.

We also have a personal story from one of our volunteers who we hesitantly adopted out a female to who already had a female in the home.

Here’s her story:

Willow came to us a foster pup. She was marked as having “food aggression” as she would attack her siblings over meal time.

We worked with her every day. She thrived in our home with our older senior female Dogo, older male Dogo, and a slightly older female mutt, Matilda.

Willow learned paw, sit & stay before eating, sit pretty, wait, heel, and so much more.

She started to fit into our lives and our pack like it was always meant to be.

After much reluctance, DC Dogos agreed to let us adopt her.

The main concerns DC Dogos had for us was once Willow reached sexual maturity that her relationship may change with her female fur sibling. We assured them we would be fine as we always had 2 females in our pack and never had issues.

After all, we were over a decade experienced in Dogos and well versed with how they mature.

Boy were we wrong. We never would have ever expected to be in the position we’re in today.

Willow and Matilda were best of friends. They slept together, played together, ate together, did tricks together, sometimes even pooped together.

Once Willow reached sexual maturity, their first fight broke out.

It landed me in the hospital with over a dozen stitches as Willow was going for Matilda but instead got me by accident.

One bite on my hand then another on my leg. I was unable to move my hand for weeks. I would be in excruciating pain all while still having to deal with the fact that our pack was no longer a pack.

Our pack had somehow imploded.

Having lived it and living through it, I now understand that same-sex households need to be avoided for the safety of everyone in the home.

I was stubborn (just like a Dogo) 😏 in my push to adopt Willow. I thought due to my past experiences (which have always been wonderful having two females) that it was an issue of people not training their dogs right, not treating them right, etc.

We now keep our females separated at all times.

One stays behind a closed door when the other is allowed to roam freely around the house and then we switch them out.

It is not perfect. It is not harmonious. But it is our new way of life.

This might be the first time you’ll hear a story like this but unfortunately, it won’t be the last.

As a rescue, our job is to ensure all Dogos find their perfect home. It is all too common for us to see same-sex aggression as a common denominator.

We thank all of our supporters for respecting our stance on this issue.

It is one we wish wasn’t an issue but we have seen it, lived it, and cannot be a part of what fosters a potentially unsafe environment for our dogs.

Hi there! Willow here taking over for the amazing volunteers at DC Dogos Rescue 🛟

This is another edition of Wednesday Wisdom with Willow 🐾

Today I bark all about dreams. Just like my mom, we dogs do in fact dream and fart 💨 when we sleep. 🛌

Hoomans may have the typical dreams like losing their teefs, cheating on their life pawtner, or falling.

We dogs have typical dreams too like chasing our tails, eating that whole box of cookies Mom hides from her kids, and even using our ears to fly.

We dogs usually start our dreams after 20
minutes of sleeping.

Dreams can also become very real for us as we may change our breathing pattern, twitch, howl, or even start running while asleep. 💤

These behaviors are totally normal.

This is Willow signing off.

Back to bed I go. I’m actually quite exhausted this morning…dreamt I was a muffler.

➡️DC Dogos can only take this dog into rescue with an approved adopter⬅️

🚀Mando is your typical male Dogo: sweet but stubborn, loving and smart! He was rescued from a Los Angeles shelter in 2022 and unfortunately, needs a new home. Mando is has moderate-high energy and does well with lots of structured physical activity. He is very well trained, with months of rigorous training under his belt. He wants to be a good boy! Boundaries and consistency will be the key to Mando’s success!

🪐Mando is good with adults and older kids. He will do well with a large female dog as long as there are BOUNDARIES but would also thrive as an only dog. He is crate trained, potty trained, leash trained, e collar trained.. very well trained! He just needs a human that’s well trained too!

☄️Mando is the quintessential male dogo. He is 115 #, a fantastic and sweet boy, he just needs consistency, exercise and boundaries. DC Dogos would love to bring him into rescue but we need an approved applicant before we can help. Please apply on our website or DM us for more info on Mando!

✨🦌Adopt a Senior: DEMI🌳✨

✨The shelter estimated Demi to about 7 years old but this girl has S***K! She’s been in rescue about a year and has gotten little interest, which is common with our seniors 😔

🌪️While Demi may be a senior, she still get the zoomies and wants to play! The only thing she loves more than treats is hugs and kisses from her people. She’s been around toddlers, kids and adults and loves them all! She has the funniest personality and will keep you laughing 🤣 Have you ever seen a female lift her leg to p*e? Demi does 🙋🏼‍♀️😂We will be dog testing this week but assume she will do well with a male dog, even though she’s a little bossy 🙋🏼‍♀️

☀️Demi is looking for a soft bed in the sun, a daily walk, maybe a human kid or fur sibling 🏡

😔Our seniors ALWAYS get overlooked. Demi is an awesome Dogo and very deserving of a forever home! Dogo ✨golden years✨ are the absolute BEST phase so give this mama a chance at having her own home, probably for the first time in her life. She needed a change of scenery and is now in Louisiana but can be transported for the right home! 🏡

URGENT ‼‼

Location: Okeechobee, FL

These two boys were scheduled for euthanasia on Wednesday, but the shelter has granted an extension since they know we're working to help them. One of our volunteers assessed them this week and said they are very adoptable. They are likely brothers: one is outgoing and friendly, while the other is shy and nervous in the shelter environment. However, he warms up quickly once outside and is much more at ease away from the noise of barking dogs and construction. Neither dog shows any signs of aggression. This shelter does not adopt out to the public, so their only chance for survival is through rescue. Unfortunately, they have not yet received any interest, and their lives are at risk if we don’t act quickly.

We need fosters to help these boys. If fostering is not an option for you, we are also seeking sponsors to cover boarding costs. At minimum, we need a temporary foster for about 10 days to get them fully vetted before moving them to boarding. These boys deserve a chance at a better life. Please comment below if you can assist with fostering or sponsoring.

Notes from the shelter manager:

•Marshmallow (Male, White Dogo Argentino, approx. 3-4 years old): Shy but sweet. He wants to trust but is still a bit unsure. He walks well on a leash and appears kennel trained. He has crusty eyes and some hair loss. Gets along well with both male and female dogs. He was a bit stiff but showed no growling or aggression.

•Fluff (Male, White Dogo Argentino, approx. 3-4 years old): Extremely sweet and playful. He walks well on a leash and seems kennel trained. He has some patchy hair loss. Gets along well with both male and female dogs. He was a bit stiff but showed no growling or aggression.

Please help us give these boys the chance they deserve!
