Level 1 trauma center with round-the-clock service? Specialists that draw patients from miles around? State-of-the-art diagnostic and treatment facilities? The Veterinary Teaching Hospital has a lot in common with human medical centers, but our facility is here to help animal patients: anything from alpacas to zebra finches. As part of the University of Illinois and the state’s only College of Ve

terinary Medicine, the hospital also plays an important role in educating the veterinarians of tomorrow and expanding knowledge and treatments to improve animal lives. With more than 80 veterinarians on staff, including more than two dozen specialists as well as interns and residents, the hospital has experts in fields from anesthesia to zoo medicine. There are boarded specialists in both large and small animal internal medicine, surgery, cardiology, neurology, ophthalmology, anesthesiology, radiology, emergency and critical care, dermatology, oncology, theriogenology (animal reproduction), and more. Each year more than 20,000 animal patients from across Illinois and beyond visit the hospital. Most are referred by their primary care veterinarian for specialty care, but animal owners can also use our services for routine health care, rehabilitation, 24-hour emergency service and intensive care, or for on-farm animal care provided through an ambulatory service.

Radar earned an Illini "good boy" scarf during his recent visit to the Dermatology/ Otology Service. Radar received this honor for a being a perfectly well-behaved patient during his allergen screening tests. We also suspect that the selection process was influenced by Radar's adorable face and cuddly demeanor. 🧑

Radar is pictured with his favorite Dermatology Technicians, Miriah and Delaney, who took the very best care of him.

Callie visited the dermatology and otology service recently for allergen screening testing to determine which pollens, mold spores, and other environmental components might be triggering her itchy allergic skin. She was an excellent and highly photogenic patient who loved the attention from the dermatology team and the camera.

Callie is pictured with Sara, a fourth-year veterinary student. The other photo is Callie's intradermal (skin) test demonstrating her positive and negative results. The results of this test will be used to begin immunotherapy treatment, i.e. "allergy injections," that are custom-made for Callie.

Callie earned her bright orange Illini scarf for being an exemplary dermatology patient! πŸ€—
