Garlic is one of our favorite crops to overwinter - so much so that we've planted over 2,000 cloves to be harvested next summer. Appropriately mulched, these will survive the coldest nights our region has to offer and require little weeding or watering between now and harvest.

Our upcoming Pumpkin crop after 5, 15, and 25 days.
While the cucumber beetles are definitely still around, and the sunlight hours continue to get shorter -- it is incredibly gratifying to see such strong, healthy growth after investing into soil health and preventative pest management.
With renewed excitement, we look forward to sharing the fruits of these efforts in the weeks to come.

We are excited to introduce a pair of organizations to our followers which we have been working with regularly over the summer.
FreshList and Market Wagon have built their businesses on connecting local consumers to local producers. They work with dozens of farms, bakers, saucemakers, and more to provide our greater community with the best of what our region has to offer -- including selections from the fields at Our Farm.
If you would like access to produce from Our Farm outside of our Harvest Box seasons, and/or you would like the convenience of home delivery -- consider supporting our newest partners via shopping at either of the links below.

When growing peppers, particularly sweet peppers, at some point in the season you will likely notice some purple streaks on your fruits that weren't there before. Do not be overly concerned; this is a common reaction to extreme temperatures and prolonged intense sunlight. And it will not affect the quality of the fruit as it matures.
There are a couple nutrient issues that may cause this as well, but these are uncommon and the plant will not appear otherwise healthy. As for most fruiting crops with long harvest windows, plan to fertilize peppers at least once more after fruit production has begun. And consider using a shade cloth or similar method to diffuse light during the height of summer.

There are officially just *5 weeks remaining* to reserve your spot for our Fall Harvest Box season. Our Spring season was a great success, and we're planning for even more new varieties - including contributions from new partners - when our market reopens in September.

07/07/2022

Despite some early setbacks, our Genovese Basil is looking brilliant in the summer heat. And we look forward to harvesting from it for the next 2 months.
For those growing their own -- the key to an extended harvest and to large, bushy plants is to harvest twice a week by pinching the Basil 'Crowns'. The crowns are the upper growth points of the Basil plant where the leaves are stacked densely on top of one another - and where flowers will bloom if left unharvested. When removed, a pair of new growth points directly below the crown will take on the role of the primary growth point for that stem, doubling the number of new crowns to be harvested in about a week.
By end of Summer, plan on a good way to preserve the mass of Basil you will harvest from your mature plants. A batch of Pesto and a fresh Caprese Salad are highly recommended

More beautiful blooms available today! Be sure to stop by and get them while they last at our afternoon market (4-5:30).

Exciting Announcement!

This week at Our Farm, we will be welcoming to our Tuesday afternoon market (4-5:30 pm) at our farm location. They will be offering beautiful Flower Bunches for sale - and, while our Harvest Box Subscribers can use their weekly points to purchase flowers, you DO NOT have to be a subscriber to take home some colorful blooms to enjoy all week long.

We welcome all visitors to join us at Tuesday's Market, and hope you will support Single Acre Farms, including learning more about what they offer and where else you can find them.
