(GSRNE) is an all volunteer, 501(c)(3) charitable organization dedicated to providing veterinary care, evaluation & adoptive homes for the countless numbers of German Shepherd Dogs who are left in pounds to await uncertain fate, are owner surrende

rs (divorce, death, etc.), or are from abuse or neglect situations. We help provide a safe harbor for German Shepherds that might otherwise be destroyed. Each dog applying to our program is evaluated for temperament and behavioral information. All accepted dogs are spayed or neutered, updated on vaccinations, and receive essential medical care. Then the dogs are placed into GSRNE foster homes, while they await new homes. Finally, each dog is carefully placed in a loving home with a family that matches that dog’s temperament, activity level and needs.

AVAILABLE for ADOPTION !
Tank is a gorgeous, 2 year old male who’s always on the go. We suspect he is likely a working line GSD so he has great drive. He wants to please and needs mental stimulation. We believe he has potential for SAR work or other sporting events. He’d make a great hiking partner. Tank is affectionate and loves to be with his people. He did have a female GSD housemate so, with proper introductions, he could live with another similarly sized female tolerant of his energy. Like all GSDs of his caliber, training and routine are a must. If you make the commitment to Tank, you will have one amazing sidekick.

To say that German shepherds shed is an understatement. Not only do they shed year-round, twice a year they engage in a perfuse shedding known as “blowing their coat.”

The good news is, there are things you can do to help keep the shedding under control and also manage in the Spring and Fall when they blow their coat.

GSRNE’S Stella is looking for her forever home !
Like us humans, dogs don’t choose to come into this world with disabilities. However sometime dogs are born with one. Stella may be different but she’s a sweet dog with lots of love to give.

Late last year we received a call from a Good Samaritan asking us to help place a young German Shepherd female. She had an older dog and had already committed to adopting a different puppy when she heard about a breeder giving away a young GSD for “free”. Something didn’t sit right with her so she asked to meet the dog and found young Stella emaciated, covered in f***s and fleas, and cowering in a crate. The breeder told her that Stella was “fine” in the crate 18 hours a day. She was being given away due to the fact she couldn’t be bred due to a leg deformity (more to come on that). Our Good Samaritan was not in a position to take on a 3rd dog and had other familial, work, and financial responsibilities, but she COULD NOT leave Stella in that situation so took ownership and brought her home with her that day. She immediately began getting Stella healthy and, when the time was right, called us to help rehome her. Wow does the world need more people like her!

Stella stayed with the Good Samaritan for a more few months while we found a foster home. We learned that she loved the grandkids in the home; she was so sweet with them. Stella adored the puppy once she arrived. She would play with the older female dog in the home most of the time well, but there were moments when the two females didn’t always get along so were monitored closely (this is not uncommon for German Shepherd females). She could be skittish with new people at first, but would warm up with treats. We also learned that Stella moves very well and has lots of energy despite having, well, 5 legs!

In her new foster home, Stella has fallen in love with her GSD brother. They adore playing with each other. Seeing the 2 dogs together is such a joy for us. She is very reactive to their cat and has a love hate relationship with the chihuahua mix female which has been managed by the foster home by decreasing interactions. She continues to do well learning how to socialize with people and has started some basic training. Despite the unusual appearance of her legs, we haven’t found other health concerns

Giving a rescue dog like Stella, a better life will be one of the most rewarding and uplifting journeys you can go on. This sweet girl is ready for her forever family could that be you?

GSRNE’s Tucker has been adopted !
We were very fortunate that one of our repeat adopters were willing to open their home and hearts to Tucker as a foster to adopt. We knew from their experience with their prior dogs that they were certainly able to handle a challenge, and they were willing to help a dog with whatever was needed. Their main concern was whether he would get along with their two older, dog-savvy cats, so we kept our fingers crossed. From the first day, they expressed how sweet and loving Tucker was. They gave him time to meet the cats gradually, which helped that relationship succeed. Tucker did need some help with his manners, like not jumping up on people for attention, and with learning that the yard is not his personal digging space (he’s still working on that one).
His new family has been putting a lot of work into his training, and he is making great strides. Tucker is happy, and very much loved in his new home and his family just adores him. He’s a very sweet boy who loves to play with all his toys.

Congratulations to Tucker, GSRNE # 678 and his new family! ♥️🐾
