⚠️ Important : No, this dog is not being punished!
If you see your dog or cat doing this at home, you should take it to the vet as a matter of urgency. Some owners don't worry, but there is a medical reason for this behavior.
Dogs or cats who act like this do so because they have so much pain in their head that they press it against the wall.
Due to damage to the nervous system, animals act this way. Causes can range from toxic poisoning to prosoncéfalo disease, a head tumor, an injury after an accident, etc....
Thank you for sharing this important information for the well-being of our little loulous 🐶🐱❤️

Anna: 😬 From a local gardener:
This tick has been on display for us to show people for a while. After months in a sealed container without any additional feeding, she laid eggs. This demonstrates how long a tick can remain dormant and how many eggs one female can lay. Remember, ticks become active again in the fall, so continue with preventive measures.
If you encounter a small pile of jelly-like balls in your garden, act immediately! These are tick eggs and they're set to hatch soon.
Either set them on fire (as long as burn restrictions are allowed) or destroy them by soaking in isopropyl alcohol. Be sure to wear gloves if you handle the nest, as it contains hundreds of tick eggs that will hatch in a few weeks.

2024 Solar Eclipse Pet Safety

Just a friendly reminder - during a solar eclipse, it's a good idea to keep your furry friends indoors. The sun's rays can be harmful to their eyes, and the sudden change in light might spook them. Many pets react to eclipses just like they do to fireworks or thunderstorms.

‼️PLEASE DOUBLE LEASH YOUR RESCUE DOG ~ TIP ON DOUBLE LEASHING‼️

Think PREVENTION every time when handling a skittish, newly adopted or fearful dog. Double leashes with a leash and harness combo may SOUND like overkill but it's not. Should a dog escape while on transport or when arriving to a new home there are fewer options for recovery because it's not bonded with you and the location is unfamiliar. Planning ahead is the best option.

All too often we hear about rescue dogs pulling out of their collars and fleeing. This is the best way to avoid that happening. These wonderful pups often come to us with no experience of busy areas, different noises, etc. They frighten easily as a result and it is up to us to do all we can to keep them safe when outside of our homes.

This is an excellent photo of what we are talking about when we refer to “double leashing” a dog that is timid, new to the family, or overall, just plain nervous.

New rescue dogs should be accompanied in the yard, on leash, until familiar w the home.

Also a very good idea to make sure when you leave your dog with a pet sitter, you leave solid instructions that your dog is to be double leashed.

BE INFORMED…… Don’t impulse buy.

Paw It Forward’s 10 𝙩𝙞𝙥𝙨 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙥𝙪𝙥𝙥𝙮 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙖 𝘽𝙤𝙬 𝙊𝙣 𝙄𝙩 🎁

Before you impulse buy a puppy for a gift, call me. Make your Decision based on rational logical choices. I will help you compartmentalize the lifestyle the puppy needs and the lifestyle you can give, to make the right decision.

1. Your bow tied fuzzy is a 10-15+ year commitment with all the expenses including training, grooming, vetting, boarding, and surgeries & recoveries. Know this.

2. The adult owner’s choices are responsible for the dog’s behavior, always. Own it. Training will help you make the right choices.

3. Crate training is a must for newly adopted or purchased puppies. It’s non-negotiable. Don’t get caught up in the fairies and rainbows experts. You’ll regret it. Get preventative training.

4. Educate yourself in canine genetics. Even hard core breeds CAN do well as pets when they come from GOOD genetics. Bad genetics is often difficult to clean up aggression, even with training.

5. Puppies do NOT need 100% free roam, lots of dogs, people and OVER socialization. They need you to make responsible choices for them. Over expose, and enjoy a dog that pays no attention to you. Train early.

6. Ask yourself ahead of time, is anyone going to be allergic? Expecting a baby? Planning on moving? Live in a no pets allowed apartment? Works long hours? Already has a dog reactive dog? Adopting an aggressive dog to “save it.” These are the “reasons” dogs are given up RIGHT AFTER THE NEW YEAR. Plan ahead.

7. Educate yourself in breed traits. There’s lots of breed information available online. Know the pros and cons for your lifestyle. For example, a border collie or cattle dog may not make a good family companion with small kids. That Cane Corso isn’t going to be stranger friendly. Choose wisely. That husky puppy? Yeah, call me. I’ve owned 6. Let me enlighten you.

8. Drop the “my puppy must love everything and everyone” expectations. Most dogs are selective. It’s normal.

9. Steer clear of MOST free roam only high volume, low staffed daycares. They will expect your puppy to never defend itself, never growl, never nip and love everyone and everything. This sets up dogs to bully, be pushy or be bullied as the “norm.” It’s a breeding ground for dog reactivity and poor behavior.

10. The leash is your friend. YOU are responsible for controlling movement. What you allow to happen wlll happen. Bad behavior is YOUR choice to allow. Read that again.

Research! Adopt safe adoptable dogs or invest in a good reputable breeder and good training now to save you a lot of money and heartache later. I’m here to help 🐾

Cracked Window Myth

K-9 Rico is sad when he hears our Community Service Officers or Patrol Officers responding to a call with a dog in a hot parked vehicle. According to the American Veterinary Medical Association, cracking the window isn't enough to keep the temperature of your car at a safe level. If your dog is distressed and at risk of severe injury or death, that cracked window will be shattered if that's what we need to do to save your pet's life.

It's going to be in the 90s this week. Don't leave your pet in your vehicle, window cracked or not. Leaving your buddy at home is safer, and we all love coming home to a wagging tail! If you must take your pet with you, use grocery pick-up or do it during the evening hours when it's dark.

You also need to think about your buddy's paws when taking them for a walk when the sun is blazing. Asphalt temperatures can be more than 50 degrees warmer than the air temperature. Four Paws International has a simple test you can do to make sure the ground is safe for your four-legged friend. Touch the back of your hand to the ground for seven seconds. If you can't hold it there for seven seconds, it's too hot for your dog's paws.

K-9 Rico approves this message.
