One of the areas of our fitness program is strength training. Here is Yeti learning about Weight Pull, a sport where the dog pulls a weighted sled on wheels, snow, or rails - depending on the type of competition. First there is acclimation to a specially designed weight pull harness, then comes learning to pull or drag a light weight for a short distance. Dragging light weight builds up strength systematically and prepares the dog's body to handle larger weight amounts in the future, just like our own weight lifting program does.

I added a "new class" - well, kind of a variation of our Polite Pooch and Puppy Manners for September. It is called Puppy and Pooch Refresher and it is a single session class where we will review skills taught in PP or PK that you may have missed or want more help with. Topics will be decided by the attendees each day. Flexible schedule - No long term commitment- it's one session at a time. If it is well received, and there is continued interest I'll keep it going. Options - Wednesdays at 4:15pm and Tuesdays at 11:30am. $48 per class.

WEEKEND UPDATE: Due to the heavy rain and flooding in the area, all classes and activities scheduled this weekend are cancelled.

Debby did a number on the training space and parking lot and it'll take a few days to get it cleared up.

Polite Pooch, Puppy Kindergarten, and both Scent Work classes will have another class added to the end of the session to make up the class so you don't lose a session.

The Kitty Yoga event will also be re-scheduled after coordinating a new date with Dakota's Dream Animal Rescue

Gordon, age 11 months earned his Grand Championship this past weekend after only 5 months of practicing in our weekly class. With consistent practice and the skilled help of a wonderful professional handler he accomplished this in record time. He also earned his AKC Star Puppy and his Puppy of Achievement
He will be exploring other sports and activities too as he becomes eligible at 1 year of age

Did super at their "30 ft dash" recall with toys on the floor, relay race heeling with sits and downs, and musical chairs with stays... probably the most challenging!

HOOPERS update! Here is Sorbetto doing a simple Hoopers course. HOOPS, Tunnel, and barrel. There is a HOOPERS class scheduled in January- "Hoop! There it is!" Check it out!

Me thinks it is time to add a new class to our fitness and fun class offerings for 2024. HOOPERS! Hoopers is the latest Dog sport craze to hit the sports world. Hoopers is similar to agility but is friendly to older dogs or puppies because the only equipment used is ground level hoops, barrels, and tunnels. There is no pounding on joints from repeated jumping or steep contact angles. Do you think your dog would enjoy sheep herding but you don't want to mess with livestock? There's a dog sport for that! It's called Treibball! Treibball originated in Germany in the 1990s with a group of active Aussies and their owner. Treibball means "Drive the ball", which is what the game is: dogs go out to a group of inflatable fitness balls and drive the balls into the goal, under handler direction. It's a great sport for older dogs who have retired from high impact activities, herding dogs who drive you crazy trying to circle everything and everyone, dogs who are "busy" and need a job and exercise. And of course anyone who wants to learn to communicate with their dog at distances. Treibball class (Dog Ball) is scheduled to start October 4th at 4:30. We have one spot remaining and will offer the class again. Treibball is taught by our fabulously talented Susan Brogan, KPA-CTP and Rally, Treibball and Freestyle expert competitor. So what is this sport called Barn Hunt? Basically, the dog has to locate and indicate where rodents are hidden, climb on straw bales, and tunnel all within a time limit. This is "Crazy 8s" where there are 8 rats hidden and the dog has 2 minutes to find as many as possible in addition to the tunnel and climb.

The sport of Barn Hunt. This is an Open level course. Dog must find two hidden rats, (there are decoy tubes), do a tunnel and climb up at least once in 2.5 minutes.

Out of curiosity, does anyone else take about their household appliances as if they are family? "Marge (robot vac) stopped working, what is she up to?" "Check on Alice, she seems to be stuck" "I can't find Mabel, is she slacking again?"
