Just like us, our pooches have blood types too. In fact, dogs have over a dozen known blood types!

Known as Dog Erythrocyte Antigen or DEA, the most common canine blood type is DEA 1.1.

We are looking for more superhero pooches to join our family of amazing blood donors so we can continue to provide this service for our patients. Could your pooch have what it takes to be a blood donor?

Blood donor heroes are:
🐾 Healthy
🐾 Weigh at least 25kg
🐾 Between 1-8 years of age
🐾 Up-to-date with vaccinations, worming, and other preventatives
🐾 Has not had a blood transfusion previously
🐾 Has a calm, trusting temperament
🐾 Be capable of lying calmly for 5-10 minutes

Last month, we hosted our first-ever World's Biggest Morning Tea—and what a success! Here is a tiny snapshot of the delicious goods we shared over one weekend. Thank you to all our talented bakers, buyers, and donors for your generous contributions.

Together, we raised $410 over one entire weekend, and we have also matched it for a total of $820. The funds will go to the Cancer Council towards vital cancer research, support services, prevention programs, and advocacy.

From mixed practice to emergency care, Amanda's dedication knows no bounds, even juggling two jobs to support her passion for saving lives. 🦸‍♀️

Outside of work, Amanda is the ultimate crazy cat lady, with six rescue cats and a menagerie of other beloved pets! 🐱🐦🐤

With an impressive 15.5 years in the industry, Danielle's passion for veterinary care began at the tender age of 5, fuelled by a dancing dream crushed by her mum's playful comparison to an "elephant trumpeting across the stage." 🐘 Despite this, her love for animals persisted, leading her to become the incredible leader she is today.

At home, Danielle's furry and feathery family includes cats Delilah, Theodore, and Zachary, dogs Penelope, Tallulah, and Rupert, and a charming flock of chickens named Jacqueline-Elizabeth, Clarice, Beatrice, Winifred, Edna, and Dorothy. 🐱🐶🐔

Danielle's favourite part of her job? This Thursday is Anzac Day, a day of remembrance, a day we honour those who served and gave their lives for their country. It is also a day we remember the animals who stood alongside these men and women and risked their lives.

Animals have always contributed to the war effort. From carrying food, water, medical supplies and messages, to detecting explosive devices, tracking fallen soldiers, providing companionship, and comfort as therapy animals to our armed forces.

While the red poppy honours the men and women who served and continue to serve, the purple poppy honours the animals who served and will serve with them.

We are so excited to start our Climate Care journey with our friends at Vets for Climate Action.

Here at Animal Emergency Australia we believe that healthy animals need a healthy climate, so our practice is excited to announce that we are taking part in the Climate Care Program. Developed by our friends at Vets for Climate Action, the program will help us to learn how we can make our practice environmentally sustainable.

Over the next few months, we’ll be learning about:
• better recycling practises to minimise our landfill
• protecting our precious water resource
• energy use and efficiency
• renewable energy
• how to make better buying decisions, and
• chemicals, toxins and pharmaceuticals.

This is one way we are doing our bit to be more sustainable and help to halt climate change.
