❌ MICROCHIP SCAM ❌

We have been made aware of a current microchip scam doing the rounds!
False microchip companies are contacting owners to advise them their pet’s microchips are about to expire and that owners need to pay a fee to reactivate.
Do not click on the links or pay money via these messages. If you are concerned about your pets microchip status please call the microchip company it is registered with to check.

We are happy to confirm the number we hold for your pet or scan your pet if there is any doubt.

☀️ Heatwave Pet Tip! ☀️

Keeping our furry friends cool is a must during these hot days! 🐾 Here’s a quick, safe, and fun way to help your dog stay refreshed: a cup of ice! This simple treat helps lower body temperature and keeps them happily hydrated.

Remember, dogs can overheat quickly, so always provide plenty of shade and fresh water. Avoid peak sun hours for exercise, and never leave pets in a parked car, even for a few minutes.

Just a little shout out to our Tara🫶

We are so thankful we haven't seen any parvo patients in recent years at our clinic, and none during the outbreak at present.
However its always around in the south east and we are super proud of our Tara for helping spread the word to keep our fury friends safe from this illness 🤒

As it is spread by either direct or indirect
contact with canine faeces and can survive
in the environment for many years, the spread of the virus is hard to control. It can be easily transferred from the paws of dogs and from people's shoes or other items contaminated with the virus, like bedding or leashes.

Parvovirus attacks the lining of the small intestine and at the same time, the virus also attacks the bone marrow. In some
cases, parvovirus can also affect the
heart resulting in inflammation and this is
usually fatal.

0ur pets are such a big part of our lives, so we are taking them out everywhere with us. Whilst its wonderful to go down the park, around the neighbourhood, into bunnings etc with your dog or new pup, we cant stress enough how important it is to keep your older dogs up to date with vaccines and keep your puppy at home until 10-14days after they have had their last puppy vaccine. To keep them safe, and avoid them missing the important socialisation window, enrolling them in puppy preschool class is the way to go. This way they can learn in a safe clean environment.

Contact us today to enrol or book a vaccine

Parvo Virus in Ipswich and South East Queensland

There has been an increased number of reported cases of parvo in Ipswich this week on the radio this morning.

Luckily we are yet to see any from our patients around Brassall.

However, please make sure your fur babies are up to date with their vaccinations and remember to keep your puppies at home until they have had all 3 vaccinations (8, 12 & 16 weeks)
While socialisation for pups is incredibly important during those early weeks, its best to do it in a safe and controlled environment like our puppy preschool classes with Tara.

Even though puppies are more at risk, dogs of all ages can be affected.

Please contact us if you notice any of the symptoms in your pet and if you need to book for a vaccine please give us a call and we will fit you in asap, or you can book online

With our wonderful Sophie reducing her work load next year to allow her more time for study & travel, we have been looking out for a new team member to join us. While we wish Soph would never ever leave, we are excited to introduce you all to Jayla & Natasha 🥰 (Soph will still be with us for a few months yet, then staying on Saturdays for as long as possible 🥰)

Jayla has been studying her Cert 3 in Animal Studies while finishing year 12. We have been lucky enough to get to know this hard working, kind hearted young lady the last few months and are thrilled to have her stay on while she goes on to complete her Cert 4 in Veterinary Nursing ❤️

Tash is a 2nd year Bachelor of Vet Science student at UQ and her and her lovely grandma are clients of ours. Born and raised in Ipswich, with a love for all animals and a soft spot for cats & the golden oldies, and a incredibly kind and helpful soul, we are so very happy to have her join our team!

We know you will love these young ladies as much as they are going to love your fur babies!! ❤️

⚠️TICK PARALYSIS ⚠️

To all of our amazing clients and those in our community, this is a post to remind you to PLEASE 🙏 make sure your pets are all up to date with their tick preventions, and a reminder that no product is 100% effective so watch out for any of the symptoms that may indicate your pet has one

Please also remember, the sooner your fur baby is seen by your vet, the better their chances of survival are. Tick antiserum will only be affective on tick toxin circulating in your pets blood, and not on any toxin already absorbed into their muscles. This means the longer your pet has ticks on them, or the longer you wait to see how they go, the more guarded their prognosis is due to the effect on their heart and lungs

If you find a tick on your pet, never feed your pet or give them water. This is because they can loose their gag reflex/ability to swollow and can end up with food/water in their lungs and respiration pneumonia.

The signs of tick paralysis can include any of the following symptoms:

⚡️change in bark or meow
⚡️gaging/retching/coughing
⚡️vomiting
⚡️unstable or wobbly back legs
⚡️ trouble walking
⚡️unable to blink eyes
⚡️excessive drooling
⚡️reluctant to move
⚡️lethargy
⚡️decreased appetite
⚡️trouble eating or drinking
⚡️unable to stand up
⚡️unable to sit up
⚡️trouble breathing or rapid breathing
⚡️collapse

If you live near bushland or the river your pets can be at higher risk, however we have a high prevalence of paralysis ticks all over Ipswich and even if your pet never leaves your yard, they can still be at risk. Possums can carry paralysis ticks or animals wondering past may stop them off near your fence

Tick paralysis at any stage is a medical emergency, one we hope you never have to experience xx
