40 years ago Hans Wolfik, Veterinary Surgeon, started Bellbird Park Veterinary Surgery at our home, renaming it Redbank Plains Vet Surgery 10 years later. He was honest, hardworking, serving clients after-hours ( even on Christmas Day!), and always lived by his Christian principles showing compassion and generosity to all his clients.
After 30 years of running the practice, he passed away on September 14th 2014 after a sudden brain haemorrhage. Along with my faithful, supportive staff, I have kept the surgery serving the community from our peaceful acreage amidst rapid growth with houses and schools right next door for the past ten years.
However it is with great sadness and regret that I now have to close the practice at the end of September.
We will have Dr Danny until the 14 th and Dr Justin and Dr Chantal until the end of September and we will do our best to fit everyone in for your vaccinations, surgeries and all other needs. Get in quickly if you would like Dr Danny to do any complicated surgeries or treatments you might have been putting off.
We will keep you posted of any changes and please phone us if you have any questions or if you need petfood or over the counter products ordered.
I want to thank all of you very sincerely for supporting this practice, especially over the last 10 years. I will miss seeing you all coming and meeting some of your special pets.

The hot weather is here and our exciting visitor today reminded us of that!! Be sure to keep lawns maintained and your animals tick treatment up to date!! Keeping doors shut and secure when possible can also help keep slitheringg friends out. We have already seen a few tick cases in the last few weeks.

We have some more cold nights on the way yet! Remember to keep your pets snuggly and warm - especially those who are outdoor-sleepers. Cold weather can lead to paw injuries, worsen respiratory illness, muscle strains and in bad cases, hypothermia! A pet jumper is a great (and cute) investment, and raising your kennel 10cm off the ground can help a lot too. Rainbow Lorikeet handed into our surgery 21/02/24 with Lorikeet Paralysis Syndrome. We think this one may be a pet - it started to sing, whistle and try to talk! Used to climbing on a finger and will take food by hand (sometimes). The finder has held onto the bird for 2 weeks prior. It is in good spirits but still unable to fly - very healthy and mostly friendly. Please call the surgery on 07 3814 4888 if you suspect it may be your pet.

Her family, amongst the pressure of media attention and grief, are adjusting to caring for a newly-diagnosed Diabetic cat. Dr Danny is back for a couple of weeks! We have him for six days in total - and we are taking appointments for surgery and medicine (or if you just want to come in and say hi!). Danny is a very experienced vet with skill in cruciate and ligament repairs, as well as general medicines and pretty much any surgery you can think of! We have had 8 lorikeets already this week handed in to go for treatment to the wonderful RSPCA!!. The lorikeets are mistaken for either being hit by a car or attacked by a dog due to being unable to fly.. However it is a syndrome called LPS. If you find a lorikeet unable to fly please hand it into the RSPCA OR A Veterinary Clinic if you believe it is unable to fly. Thank you to the kind people who have already done so this week.

With the hot weather ramping up this week in particular we urge you to ensure your pets have cover to hide from the sun as well as a decent supply of water to avoid heat stroke. 😎
This applies to cats too. Slow cooling is best - do not place in an ice bath! Apply water under their armpits and belly as well as the head, neck and chest.
Everyone loves icecream when it's humid and hot, but some ingredients can cause your pet some very serious health issues! 👀🍦 We all know chocolate is bad for dogs, but so are grapes, raisins, coffee and the artificial sweeter xylitol - these can be super toxic to animals! Always check the ingredients as these can cause kidney damage or even failure. Xylitol is fatal in high enough doses, and is also found in peanut butters and other spreads. If you want to treat your pet to some cool refreshing treats, try making them a pup-sicle! You can add some sodium free beef or chicken stock to water and freeze, or chuck in some chicken pieces. Carrots, blueberries, and watermelon ice cubes are also tasty and safe! Not to mention fun to share 😎 🍉🧊

🐁🐁🐁🐁 2 x pregnant Rats came into my care a couple of months ago. Then those 2 became 30 in what felt like overnight! as the 2 litters were born 3 days apart. They are quite a bit of work. But watching them develop from little pinkies into teeny pups with adorable whiskers has been a nice journey... Look at this wee one searching around with it’s cute little ratty hands, trying to suckle 🥰🥰 ADORABLE!!!!!! 🐀🐀🐀🐀
